Palisadoes, I know that Albania was created in order to prevent if from being annexed by Serbia, but that wouldn't have happened in the first place if the Ottomans had still had a land connection to it. The loss of Thessaloniki was the impetus for the creation of the Albanian state, even if it was in an indirect manner.
Hi Archaalen,
The screenshot I posted shows the borders as they are right after the treaty of San Stefano, before the Berlin Conference resets them. When the Berlin Conference fires, the Ottomans regain the provinces of Kavala, Petric and Skopje, and thus the land connection to Albania is restored. It is true though that without Thessaloniki, the Ottoman position in Macedonia very weak. They should My events do not have Thessaloniki going back to Turkey, but if Greece is allied with Russia, such a revision could be forced on them by the Great Powers, too.
Of course if the Congress of Berlin does not happen then Turkey is screwed and something ought to be done about Albania. (a) great powers have Austria install an Albanian principality under a German princeling as was done later historically (b) Russia goes one step forther and "awards" the territory to its clients Bulgaria and Serbia by forcing San Stefano pt. II on the Turks (c) Albania rebels from the Ottoman empire, and Serbia /Bulgaria /Greece eat them up.
But then the whole "San Stefano stays" case has not been worked out yet beyond Britain dow'ing Russia... has it?
