So I keep going back and forth in my plans as the thread develops. I had pretty much given up on early westernization, and started advancing my tech again , then realized that maybe I could westernize during the ToT and am thinking about going back to delaying my tech. Probably a consistent strategy would be better. Oh, well. At this point I'm only 2 techs behind my most advanced adjacent western nation (Denmark, which has been stuck on 27 for what seems like forever; 1523. I'm at 10/6/9)), so maybe I should just stick with delaying westernization. Especially since I need my military tech to advance to continue my wars of conquest.
Another question - someone in another thread suggested taking an army east to annex & release Manchu and colonize from both directions. I assume that would require exploration rather than expansion to deal efficiently with the fog of war? And when would such a move become viable? Admin tech level 14 at the earliest I guess, since I'll need a second settler.
Finally, not sure if this can be answered without more detailed information about my game, but I'm unsure about strategy regarding my vassals. I am in the process of annexing one. Three are Moslem, and I intend to hold off on annexing them for now. With one slot taken up by Trebazoid (ugh), that leaves one vassal - a huge Ukraine (12 provinces). Can't decide whether to absorb that now or wait, hoping to feed it some more provinces.
