If the Revolution did succeed, what new political system would have taken over?
I think we need to distinguish here between The February revolution and The October revolution, as they are quite distinct from each other.
From the onset of WW1, the february revolution was practically inevitable. Russia was going to get thrashed in that war, come what may, and The February revolution was the natural consequence of that.
Anyway, without the Bolsheviks/Lenin's insitance on toppling The PG, I would assume that the PG keeps tottering along, until it is forced into surrender by The Germans, or realises the utter pointlesness of continued fighting, and grudgingly makes peace.
Either that, or it is toppled by Kornilov or one of his chums and they do the same thing.
I would assume that after all that, Nicholas is invited back, on the condition of a constitutional monarchy - The generals would no longer trust him, and The Liberals et al would have no desire of any more idiotic autocracy. However, they both saw him as a bulwark against overt-radicalism.
Whether Russia can bring it's economy up to speed in time for WW2, if indeed WW2 actually occurs, is anyone's guess. I'd probably say it's doubtful.
In which case, the Axis either makes a pact to leave Russia alone in exchange for a peaceful division of The East, or it completely eradicates it, Russia not having the gross, Stalinist industrialisation to fight back.
In any case, The Axis would probably win by default. Not a terribly nice prospect, really.
