Wha... ancient plane sprites?

Why do all my airplanes look like I've just started the game? I've researched all the techs already! My tanks have changed as I modernized them but my airplanes haven't!

Oh and the upgrade option is always highlighted whereas for tanks it only lights up when I can REALLY upgrade them.

I've played Russians only so this might be limited to them...

I am shocked!

I can't stand the ignorance (translator's note: bad translation... what he really means that other countries seem to ignore what's going on? either that or we're dealing with EU2-style 20-year-long wars with one battle every 3-4 years... I wonder what's his aggressiveness set at) and cramping (translator's note: bad translation... ugh, he is using words I need a dictionary for... but what he really means is that other countries appear to fail to act when necessary or appropriate) of other countries, even after they got involved in Global warfare!

I was playing for USSR and I turned the fog of war off. And I watched the immobile units of Allies. Oh, don't get me wrong, they were at war with the Axis! My allies were sitting still too - Hungary, Rumania, Bulgaria (translator's note - wha? how did he get three Axis-bound countries to join him? if I understand things correctly, this required tons of diplomats and sheer luck).

It really seemed like only USSR and Germany needed the war. And no one else.

Oh and I got truly amazed when Germany refused to build its airforce, the best airforce at the time, mind you... They had only 5 (five) diving bomber squads - that's it, and we're talking 1941 here and THEY have attacked me (I was playing the hardest difficulties)(translator's note - DUH! and so all AI countries were too afraid of being attacked so they garrisoned and held ground... duh... you need to play on 2nd or 3rd aggressive setting... but then again... Germany? What the...)

Programmers, please get rid of this AI shyness! I want EU2 style dynamism (translator's note - and I assume you want english troops in middle asia in 1425 too, a la EU2 1.05... I don't, thank you very much).

And could Germany finally get a decent set of air fleets.

More or less decent AI: Ussr, Germany, Japan, USA.

UK is on drugs - Italy is always beating them in Africa (translator's note - British Naval AI might be the key as Brits need to cut off the supply flow to Africa).

I've played 'til the end of 1939. Germany tends to calm down after it conquers France, and can sit still for a year doing nothing (translator's note - because all neighbors have low bad boy points?). UK is sitting without troops altogether!

AI is not balanced, save for a few countries... where it's acceptable.

Jeez... 5700 thread views, a promised signed DVD from Snowball, yet no sticky? Hmphhhhhhhhh.

Anyways.

(translator's note: the following post was hysterical - but you had to have seen a few movies to get it... if you know Russian, do go look at the original instead)

"Screw the tanks, mount the horses"

I don't know what is it that the programmers have been smoking, but I am going to tell you one thing: by the time your Somua tanks rev up their engines, I am going to take your capitals. The joke is that cavalry moves 20% faster in HOI! I ignored horses at first, but no more. My soviet cavalry is passing by the German panzers and smashes them from the rear and from the flanks. "Somua". Heh.

Take that.

(translator's note: phalanx taking out a battleship, Civilization I style, anyone? if anyone is old enough to remember that :D)

First impressions

Yeah... it is all about having the raw materials, isn't it? Actually, make it not having the right raw materials. Especially if you lack the proper conversion technologies.

Rubber is money. Everything depends on it. If you ain't got the oil-to-rubber conversion technology from the start, you. are. dead. That's why the Spanish and the Romanians are not attacking anyone.

I am simply enraged. I've started campaigns for EVERY country in the game. Well, almost. And guess what. UK is the strongest one - it's amazing just how much it is beating Germany by. Everything other than UK is Second World. If an AI is playing them - Third World.

Don't ask me, though, why is the British AI so wimpy.

Ohh and guess who's the king of rubber... Belgium. It has thousands upon thousands of rubber units - without any chance of delivering them home. And by the time you reach the conversion (oil to rubber) technology or build the convoys, say hi to Hanover.

(translator's note - YIKES! Which Hanover? It is the British dynasty that is Hanover-based - but he has to mean Germany. He ought to.)

There is no balance in this game... you can either (1) hide behind the back of a major country or (2) say good-bye, hope you improve your cemeteries just well enough in time to start burying your dead.

I am way to upset to keep writing...

Even with the gold version, you should be able to get rubber if you offer enough for it on the world market. This issue will be addressed in the first patch. To a certain extent rubber shortages were a problem for some countries during the war, and did encourage resource on synthetic rubber production.

It's a shock to germans also. Something wrong with seeing a "cuddly" nazi Germany. Often It is more obscene to make light of something, than to show it how it was.

Best not to get into that here...

He might not be setting up convoys effectively. I also believe that Belgium will more transports when the next patch becomes available.

I'm still upset by the whole 'let's convert all your resources for you automatically' biznas. :p All you need are two sliders... Percentage possible conversion of coal to oil, and percentage possible conversion of oil to rubber. Argh... :\
