Hi all, Recently we ( russian community ) organized a petition for request a Russian localization in europa universalis 4. I would like to to know - Paradox Interatstive plans to make Russian localization?
I would also like to see - that this language is more than the propagation of the German or French, and IMHO is worthy. Proof

Lol @ the proof, as if the Russian speaking Siberian Turk is more likely to buy the game than the Rheinlander or the Brusselois. In sort, it's all about the target market and not about the number of speakers [and fewer speakers don't make a language unworthy]

It doesn't have to do with the actual translation, it has to do with "non-standard" letters in the game. There are currently some problems with many signs used in province names when the game is loading, I don't know exactly which ones but you have to be very careful where you put them or the game will crash while loading in the worst case. Paradox could probably "fix" it but I don't imagine it's high on the list of things do to. It'd most likely happen after the game was released, if at all.

In the past Russian editions have been licensed out to people like Snowball. CK2 came out in English, German, Spanish and French only from Paradox, and there was a separate Polish edition from Cedega.

I can't speak for this game, I'm just saying that history is not on your side on this request.

Do not use this thread or forum to denigrate other languages or nationalities. Any further posts like that will also be deleted, and infractions anded out.

I think this is not problem of Paradox. It's the problem of our localizators. We need to push them to contact to Paradox and translate the game. I've tried to relate with 1C and force them to translate CKII, but they kept silence. Probably, because they are "too awesome" for that :)
At least Paradox could use fan-made localizations. Better one is by strategium.ru. For example, developers of Endless Space made russian localization exactly that way. But, you know, fans are not reliable.

UPD: By the way, signed. Although i have no hopes for that.

Nooooooooooooooooo. Please no, no God, please. Try to force Snowball. But, God. Not 1C.
Is Snowball still alive? o_O I thought they're already bankrupt or something.
And why not 1C? Who cares about localizator's name if the game is in Russian? :) At least they are presented on Steam.

Completely out of topic: it is Cenega, but what do Polish versions of game have to do with Russian language/localization?? Poland uses latin alphabet. (and Polish versions prior EU3 (by another publisher) had completely custom cd-keys so I was never able to get EU2, HoI, HoI2, Arma, etc icons ::crying:: )

Just as an example to show that non-Western-European language versions tend to be licensed out to 3rd parties, probably due to lower sales volumes. I was not equating Polish and Russian as languages at all.

IIRC the EU3 base game was the last to come out in Polish, and after one or two expansions that was dropped.

As i said thousands times before, this is a question of "ab ovo". Low sales because of lack of russian translation, or no russian translation because of low sales...
Russians (ok, post-soviets :D ) adore strategy games. And Paradox loses a big market. But that's their business. If they want to sell 100 copies of the game instead of 1000, it's their choice. All I'm asking Paradox for is (at least) ability to use cyrillic letters. And translation will be made by us. For free! :)

You can not expect huge sale volume in say 38 million people country.
However Cenega published Rome, HoI3+SemperFi, King Arthur, Crusader Kings II, Lionheart, Viki2+house divided, some Cities in motion and maybe more as well.
Cenega is also publishing in ex-Czechoslovakia and in Hungary (even smaller countries).

I don't. And you can't expect PDS to translate the whole game for every language community that size, regardless of sales volumes.

Good, showing that the current model works fairly well - low-volume translations are done by people who have better idiomatic knowledge of the language, and can market directly to that language community. I really don't see what improvement could be expected by having PDS handle all these languages as well, surely better to be done by local specialists.

Could they add unicode support and let the community do it? I'm sure you could scrounge up a couple Russians to do a Russian translation or Chinese people for a (simplified) Chinese translation

problem with this request is that there is simply too small of a market to make it nice and worthwhile for a developer. there are a LOT of people speaking engligh, german, french and spanish(of which most have old colonies as well where they speak it still). hence these are the "main" languages games are translated to. sometimes you also have japanese(as a lot of japanese still speak and read english poorly), dutch(which has a large amount of gamers) and maybe some eastern european languages, but is usealy only done for HUGE titles as AC or family games liek the sims. russia simply isnt a large enough market to make it worthwhile for a company like PI to give full translation in russian. its not liek this is call of duty played by a huge share of the gamers, we grand strategy lovers are poor enough not a huge market and a market which speaks english quite well, thus lowering needs for translation even more.

so i seriously doubt we'll get full russian support considering the small market and large engish speaking percentage of EU4's market.

Provide language support and let the fans translate it.
