I have yet to play a game, where Russia beats Germany. I have played HOI for more than two years, with all patches, and the Russians have not won a single time. I do not understand whats all that talk about Russia being overpowered. I hear alot of rambling about of the so called Russian might, I have not seen any of it. The Russian might is a myth, that someone has started long time ago. The Russian AI sucks.

I have yet to play a game where Russia beats Germany, when I am the one controlling Germany. But otherwise I have had a very different experience of the game.

It isn't just about the AI, though that was a large part of it. I find it hard to believe that you have played with all the patches and haven't noticed the night and day difference between the SU under 1.05 (and earlier) versus under 1.06. Prior to 1.06, and this is just my own playing experiences here, the SU would beat Germany about 20% of the time (assuming I was playing one of the Allies). And when the SU won it was almost always because they took advantage of the southern route through Romania, Yugoslavia, et al, which Germany never defended due to a "bug" (a gaping hole, actually) in the German AI. Since 1.06, the SU almost never loses, and usually has Berlin by early 1943 at the latest (if I don't get there first). And that is with strictly head on attacks. IOW, before 1.06 the SU was ahistorically weak. Since 1.06, the SU is ahistorically just a bit too strong, and Germany was made a bit too weak (partly by the introduction of the supply distance modifier, and partly by the ridiculously destructive unescorted convoys).

Part of the problem appears to be a bug which the devs have never been able to fix. The bug is in the handling of your ground units' combat modifiers, particularly the winter attack and defense ones. For some reason they "gang agley" more and more as the relevant countries research the various techs that change the winter modifiers. AFAIK, nobody has ever been able to figure out why the modifier tables get so fudged up, but it appears that the game likes to invert signs between pos and neg, turning research "bonuses" into penalties, and vice versa.

Although I don't think that bug is responsible for such a big difference since the Soviets are affected by it as well, you may want to try the mod in my sig as a workaround to this problem.
On topic, one of the major factors in the battle in the east is if anyone of them has a human ally. Since I play Axis nations 75% of the time I usually see them win a lot, simply because I'ld have to face the Soviets alone otherwise and I tend to prevent that by sending excess resources, harrassing the Allies, opening a second front etc. In 1.06 however (with some other mods), I had quite a lot of handsoff games and they seemed to be fairly historical; Germany beats France, then takes on the Russian bear and manages to advance until 1943, 1944 after which the Soviets gained momentum and finally beat them, with an Allied landing thrown in for good measure.

Are you playing as Germany? If your Germany then I don't see why you're complaining that you won. It's no surprise that a human player can beat the AI.

If Japan AI and National China AI do not declare war on Russia, which most likely would happen, Russian AI would have nothing to worry about on the East. If you played Axes (not Germany), you would have Japan or yourself to attack Russia's East coast (about 30ICs or so at least). And Russians "should" fall. But the Russian AI mostly manages to rush through Romania for a counter attack...

If you are Allies, you would have worked on Germany's West side to recover France while Russia draws ~70% of the fire from Germany. Russia mostly would not fall if you work practically.

If you are Turkey (some how ;) ), you can join Russia and help out abit for the Romania part. Alternatively, you can join Axes attack Persa and weaken the Stalingrad abit. You can also join the Allies, and open the route for Russia's Romania-entry :D

I can't see much about the "unbalance" part, the "human factor" can alter the result a lot. May be just that you did not help Russian for the 2 years...

Even with no allied intervention and as long as you aren't playing as any axis nation, the Russians will win 90% of the time in 1.06.
