This game really needs a rural DLC. Right now you can zone in Agriculture in the city but you are stuck with underwhelming sized farms. I think it there is an opportunity to make a new kind of zoning, Rural. Have special rural roads that allow a larger grid, preferably around ten times the amount you can currently build. Your zoning can be either rural residential, or agriculture. Residential houses have large yards in them, while the agriculture could have row crops, cattle, or other related things. I believe the city zoning would be good for stock yards and meat processing plants and silos.
You can also have a rural commercial that can do stables and dude ranches, and some small mom and pop stores.
For unique buildings you can have a.t.v./dirt bike tracks, rodeos, tractor pulls, and horse riding trails., for the Winter maps you can have snow mobile tracks.

Agree- this is an underdeveloped aspect of the game- along with diversification of industry- canals- docks-bridges and tourism/leisure. The devs are all over the place and appear easily distracted by bright shiny objects- concerts? Why? So much more pressing issues to address rather than being distracted by pointless vanity projects.

Very much needed :)

But just take a look at all the updates and DLCs that have been released. No essential core machanics have been changed and I don't think they will ever do. That's something they will probably consider for a sequel.

It was a missed opportunity to have the feeling of creating your city from a rural small-town booming into a sprawling city yes... Also, could have added cost for demolishing/rezoning to different type, since you essentially take owned properties where rezoning to allow larger density would have "private" investors buying the plot from the owner to create a high-rise...

Along with maintenance increase due to age which would actually mean malfunctioning and cost-benefit on when to replace buildings... In DK we just recently, again, had a windmill blow up and it was said they are supposed to live like 10 years or something...
