I'm running Crusader Kings II through steam. Every time run it, it brings up the launch menu and then gives me a Runtime Error saying "This Application has requested the Runtime to Terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information" when I try to start the game. I've uninstalled the game, deleted the folders mentioned in other threads. Uninstalled Microsoft Visual C++. Reinstalled both. Updated my drivers. Installed it on a drive other than C. It still gives me the same error ever single time.
If steam actually keeps the game up to date I'm running 1.111 with all the DLC's.

Has it ever worked for you on this machine? If not Please try installing:

First: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

After that: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

Then right-click on ck2.exe and ck2game.exe and set them to run as the Admin user.
And then check if you can run the game after that.

What exactly happened on each of those things? Did they appear to do anything?

If not, it has to be something that's happened to the game itself. Try a full clean reinstall:

move any valued save games elsewhere and uninstall the game from within Steam. Then manually delete ALL the EU4 directories from under BOTH the Steam and MyDocuments folders. Now reinstall the game from Steam, and run the Verify just to make sure it all came down properly.

Then manually delete ALL the EU4 directories from under BOTH the Steam and MyDocuments folders.

Don't get confused Keenin, AndrewT means the CK2 directories. Ignore the 'EU4' part. It's just because he's switching Tech Support Forums.
Unless there is some new kind of problem i don't know of....and if so i will bow my head in shame.

Nothing really different happened. The install of each one went just like any install except for the first directx install didn't work because I had a newer version already installed. The second one was just a standard install. I did go to windows update and my system is updated all the way. When I started the game after doing all that it did the exact same thing. Brought up the launcher and when I launched the game it takes a second or two then the runtime error appears, and the only choice I have is to close it. I then restarted my computer just even though it never asked me too, and tried it again with the same result.

I just now uninstalled the game from steam. deleted all the CK2 folders I could find. And it did the exact same thing. I also uninstalled ck2 deleted all folder and all Microsoft Visual C++, restarted reinstalled both programs from scratch. The same thing happens.

Yes, sorry, of course I meant the two CK2 folders. Just to confirm, in your re-install you found and deleted TWO CK2 folders, one under Steam and one under MyDocuments? This is vital.

What if you manually run ck2.exe , does that work? Also, exit Steam and manually run ck2game.exe (the launcher), what happens then? Any errors or messages?

I did delete both folders, one in the steam folder and the other in My documents when i uninstalled the game.

I also tried to run the game by launching it directly from the exe file and launching the launcher from the exe file with steam not running. When I open the launcher the launcher comes up with the list of all DLC's but when I try to launch the game it thinks for a few seconds and then does nothing. No game processes are running, no error messages the computer is in the exact state as it was before i tried to run the game. The game does the same thing when I launch it directly without the launcher.

As I was trying to solve this problem, I found many other problems with my windows install, and steam install. So I decided to do a Clean install of windows. I haven't completed it yet but I pretty sure this will solve the problem.
