Runtime Error on Starting EU IV - Windows 7

For the last two days I have been receiving the Runtime error below on attempting to start EU IV.

This appears immediately after I click on "Start EU IV"

I had successfully updated to 1.4, and played 10 hours or so.

I have no mods installed, and have only played ironman.

I have removed and reinstalled EU IV.

I have updated various Windows C++ files. I am upto date with Windows update.

I have verified the integrity of the game cache

I have also tried to launch Crusader Kings 2, which resullts in the same type of error.

Have you tried a full clean install already?

Important: Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\save games\' and copy all the save games you want to keep outside the folder
* Uninstall Europa Universalis IV.
Steam users: uninstall the game from within steam by right clicking on the game and select "Delete content"
* Go to the folder where you installed Europa Universalis IV in, and check if the Europa Universalis IV folder is removed. If not, delete the entire folder
Steam users: Installation folder can be found at: '..\Steam\SteamApps\common\'
* Go to '..\My Documents\Paradox Interactive\' and remove the entire Europa Universalis IV folder
* Re-install the game - Make sure to install the game outside the 'C:\Program Files\' or 'C:\Program Files (x86)\' folders, as it can cause issues with permissions

Weird... When I click to re-install the game it only dowloads less than 1 GB. I'm sure I deleted everything...

And now all my steam saves (all my games) are gone. Great...

EDIT: Apparently my CIV saves are fine.

Reminder:
Go to '..\My Documents\Paradox Interactive\' and remove the entire Europa Universalis IV folder

deletes ALL your saves.

As I mentioned in my instructions, you need to move the save games folder out before deleting the folder. Otherwise you'll lose your save games.

I`m experiencing the same problem like op. Unfortunately the solution posted above doesn`t work for me. I tried it several times and I tried a couple of other things but nothing works. The same runtime error is always there.

Are you having these runtime errors during the startup? And you have tried a full clean install as mentioned above? (make sure to delete all files, and move the save games you want to keep, as mentioned in the instructions).

I tried the full clean and reinstall thing and I'm still having this problem. I don't know if this is relevant but when I'm downloading the game, the download size is 612MB (or something around that). Steam says the game cache is intact. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong. I deleted the entire EUIV folder.

Could you post the game logs after you've launched the game at least once (as it needs to regenerate the files if you deleted the files under my documents/paradox interactive/europa universalis IV/ )

Note there are TWO EU4 folders, one under Steam and one under Documents - you need to delete BOTH for a clean reinstall. Obviously move any valued saves out from Documents/EU4/savegames/ first.

Weird, I can't seem to find the other EU folder, only the one inside the steam. Also, sorry for the delay in replying to this thread. Holidays ended nad I've been somewhat busy.

The game creates that folder and contents when it starts up. If it can't even get off the ground, it doesn't have a chance to. So it depends how far the game is getting before crashing. Seems you actually have a different problem than this thread is about, if the same solution does't work for you.

So we'll need to start afresh. Has the game ever run for you on this machine, or not? If not Please try installing:

First: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

After that: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

If it has worked on this PC before and no longer does, it's hard to see why that would be unless something's changed on your machine. Does a Steam verify run cleanly?

It has worked before, the steam verify does goes smoothly and I haven't done anythign to the machine. It just stopped working showing the same message from the OP. I tried deleting the game before and I'll try it again just to be sure.
