Running XP - CKII tries to Open but Fails

I'm running windows XP and it tries to open through steam and the window for the program opens but then it says CK2game.exe error window blah blah. There is no error code given to me other than that.

I've run through the install direct x, the vc redistributable as well as running .NET framework 4. I've also tried the run in 640 x 480 and nothing seems to get it to load (though the resolution will change when resized under compatibility).

Please help. I've been waiting til I had some extra dough to buy & play this game and now that I have I've been frustrated all day trying to get it to run. :/

These days, since the expansion of the game map to include India, it's a struggle to get it running on XP at all, I'm afraid. Try rolling back to 2.0.4 in the Steam beta tab; if that helps then do this Workaround:


- Select "My Computer" with a right-click and choose "Properties"

- Click the Advanced tab.

- Switch to the "Startup and Recovery" area and press "Settings"

- In the System startup section, click Edit. It should automatically start Notepad displaying the Windows boot.ini

- In the "Operating Systems" section, add /3GB /Userva=2560 to the end of the line that includes /fastdetect

- Don't forget to save the changes and close Notepad and all open dialog boxes.

- To let the changes take effect restart your computer



Note this will NOT help if you have 2gb or less of system memory, only loading fewer DLCs will do that, or rolling back to 2.0.4 .
