If you want variety, why not write a long post about how fun it would be to play a game where male warriors are pariahs and men are discriminated against? I'm all for variety, but if the only variety we get to play is one that is as bad as or worse than RL sexist societies, that's boring to me.
Actually, I'd totally be up for a game featuring a misandrist society, but it's a little too diametrically opposed to viking society for this game (or more correctly, the humans of this game). Coming to think of it, isn't the advantage of all these different races that you can make each society different? Let's say the humans have a male-slanted society (but not as misogynist as actual history, since Norse mythology was more gender equal than Norse society, atleast from what I've seen of it), another race has a gender equal society (I'd suggest the trolls, their nomadic society seems to imply less defined power structures) and yet another race favors women over men?

Most Humans are between 1.5 and 2 meters tall, with skin that easily reddens in the sun.
Is this a politically correct way of saying "white"? :p

Humans? Really? I thought you guys had IMAGINATION! I hate having those unrealistic pink monkeys running around in every game I play. They are just so fake they ruin everything.

New D&D basic rules are on the same page as Runemaster devs when it comes to gender issues.

Actually, I'd totally be up for a game featuring a misandrist society, but it's a little too diametrically opposed to viking society for this game (or more correctly, the humans of this game). That would probably be an interesting way to do it.

That would probably be an interesting way to do it.
It'd certainly make for some more interesting social dynamics over the plain, boring 'males are the best at everything, everywhere' view.

But the most star cooks are male! :p
It's really weird tbh, the stereotypical 'professional' is always male; even for occupations that involve the culinary arts which are usually (again, stereotypically) associated with the god-awful 'woman, get back in the kitchen' phrase..

Western societies sure are bizarre sometimes.

But anywho, back OT:
I am rather glad devs have taken this approach to genders in Runemaster, it adds to my list of reasons I'll be pre-ordering as soon as available..

Considering that an earlier dev diary mentioned that each race would be divided by subfactions, perhaps one way of allowing the player to turn a race would be to have you do it one subfaction at a time. So for example out of the three troll factions mentioned in dev diary #15, settlers would be the easiest to convert and maneaters the hardest. Maybe even add the possibility that if the humans switch to Loki the maneaters might decide to defect to Thor because they don't want to team up with humans and similar situations where appropriate.

bloody hel, came here just to suggest this, conversion in parts

hel, maybe you could only convert one out of three and you have to fight the other 2 to establish dominance of your chosen faction before you could be seen as converting the race to your side

We base the Humans on Vikings, so well, no. Maybe in a DLC or something.
You base Humans on Vikings, so no different ethnicity besides Northern European. But when it's about the sexism in Norse society, you decide to make a statement and make your fantasy society inclusive and gender-equal. Why the arbitrariness in how inclusive you are? Why do you think sexism is so important that you must disregard the historical basis of your game (no sagas about female heroes) but racism isn't that important?

It's your game in the end, so it's up to you to decide, but I'm still curious about the answer.

BASED on Vikings. Not 'they are vikings'. Different. And there are sagas about female heroes and strong women. They can do with them whatever they want. They are not vikings. They just based on vikings. There is no historical basis for this game.

The arbitraryness of creating something, I guess? If you want a game about black vikings, you should make one! It sounds awesome.
