  • Crusader Kings III Available Now!

The realm rejoices as Paradox Interactive announces the launch of Crusader Kings III, the latest entry in the publisher’s grand strategy role-playing game franchise. It is very likely that it does not need any further discussion and thus bumping it serves no purpose. If you feel it is necessary to make a new reply, you can still do so though.

1. Is the name of the cave in the picture randomly generated?

2. Will I be able to hunt the moose to the left?

3. What's that little red circle on the minimap?

1. That's actually a whole dev diary on its own. Short story: we create regions and name them. They are randomly placed in the world. We have several different cave regions with different names, so you might not always see Cave of Lost Trolls in every game. We might do even more randomization of the names, so it might be "Cave of 12 Angry Trolls" or "Cave of Abandoned Trolls" or something entirely different. There might be bears there. Or wolves. It's only alpha, after all.

2. The moose... you don't want to mess with the moose.

3. That's a place of interest, you could call it. It indicates that there's something you should go take a look at. I did not take the screenshot, so I am not sure what's there myself.

We have bear cavalry, regular cavalry and stag cavalry. No moose though :/

Looks good.

Up in the north, far north, from Pajala and above, the sun never sets during the summer. Stockholm is too far south for it, but during midsummer you'll get just a few hours of darkness.

the few hours of darkness makes it perfect for parties ^^

Truth be told I actually thought midsummer meant the general 'middle' of summer (we get so much sun down in Australia the summer solstice isn't such a huge deal) as opposed to the solstice itself; I had to use Wikipedia to clarify what midsummer actually was

Ahh the culture differences..

A slightly tangential question, but will there be "locals" in the game who know where to find the "Cave of Lost Trolls"? I like the idea of randomly "scrambled" worlds and quests, but I hate the all-too-common mechanism of finding what you are looking for by just wandering around until you fall over it. Having local inhabitants who are able to trade you information (for news from afar, maybe) would be very cool.

Even in the north of Scotland I have had nights in late June when we were sitting out in the pub 'beer garden' (basically a field with tables) at 11 o'clock at night with twilight still enough to see quite well by. Oh, and a deep, deep blue sky. Marked seasons have their upsides as well as their downsides :)

And does this upset your sleep cycle very much?

My sleep cycle is so that I don't sleep much in summer time, but in winter, when is dark all the time (=in middle summer in northest part of Finland sun doesn't fall under horizon about two and half months and in middle winter it doesn't rise at all about same time) you have lot of time to sleep...

Would dwarfs on goats suffice?

No, also, I'm now forced to demand a loading screen containing a dwarf riding a bear that has an elf grasped within its jaws, while the dwarf brings a hammer down upon it.

Grammar Nazi edit: Isn't the plural of dwarf, dwarves?
supposedly, in the context of fantasy, yes the plural of dwarf is dwarves, but if you refer to dwarf as a 'small person' then the plural is dwarfs. I guess it doesn't really matter, since English is not very rule-friendly, so both forms are ok in my mind.
