Now you are part of good alliance Anibal, West Europe won't declare war on you and you have alliances with the colonialists countrys.

Instead of conquering and having to pay for the defences, why don't you just colonize.
But now that you started to conquer you can't let the army be stopped, you have to give them ' enterteinment'

Do a war against China or Nippon or a very east country, destroy their navy and they won't threat you.
If they have a navy that threats you!!!

Maxax, thanks for reading!

The answer to what you said is simple. Brigadier Almeida's stats are 6/5/5/2 and General Afonso de Albuquqerque are 5/6/5/1. Do I need do say more?:D :D :D

Chapter V, part V

Chapter V, part V

King Manuel I (October/1495 - December/1521)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Lisboa, 2nd March, 1512 A.D.. The Royal Palace.

- Araujo, I'm starting to take measures that will lead us to another war.

- Which measures, lord?

- First, let's sign a white peace with Maya, because there's no reason to attack them, since they're under spanish influence under the Treaty of Tordesillas!

- Don't know if the spanish kings would like it...

- I don't care! I am the king, I give the orders! - he shouts. - There is no reason to wage war against Maya!

- Okay, okay, okay... Calm down, please.

- Well, second, our standing army in Zimbabwe is ordered to be carried to Zanzibar. We have more than 45 thousand men on that region, and they need to have some fun...

- What is your next target?

- You'll see soon, very soon... And also, I order more transport ships to be built! Now we need to make two voyages to bring our men to Zanzibar, and this can't happen again in the future!

The mayan ambassador in Lisboa accepted the peace proposal.

November 3rd: A new colony is founded east of Malacca. The colonists call it Jakarta, the same name given by the natives. They can produce indian spice there!

Zanzibar, 19th November, 1512 A.D.. At the Military HQ.

- General Albuquerque, may the grace of God be with you.

- The same to you, Brigadier Almeida!

- We've just received from the king a supply of new pikes and arquebuses to our troops, as well as a big gunpowder supply. He also sent new strong armours to all of our soldiers and also to the horses on our army. And we also have new cannons to equip our vessels, and a big supply of cannonballs.

- What does it mean, Brigadier? War? Against whom?

- Well, let me read it to you... it's a letter from the king.

"Dear Brigadier Almeida,

I think all this new and expensive equipment may be enough to acomplish my next plan. Train your soldiers to use them well, and use them wisely. I order you and General Afonso de Albuquerque to march to India with our troops! Declare war on Vijaynagar and their vassal and ally Orissa. Take as much coastal provinces as you can. Don't mind taking inland territory on a peace proposal, but you are allowed to make pillage on them if you want.

Don't think that their armies and navies will give us much trouble, but be carefull. They might bring in more allies, and this war may create envy on many other nations. But they control rich cities and lands that produce very rich goods. And don't forget that we don't want spanish or french help on this war.

May God follow you on your way. Conquer the Indies for the glory of Portugal!

Best regards,

King Manuel I."

- Quite impressive, Almeida! - General Albuquerque is surprised.

- I also thought... and I was thinking that our target would be Malacca, not Vijaynagar!

- I am sure, all sure that the next target, after Vijaynagar, will be Malacca...

- For sure. But I have enough reasons to think why he chossed Vijaynagar first. He wants to incite venetian rage against us, because they declared war on the Pope. And because we will be controlling the most rich spice-producing lands!

- That's enough, Almeida! Let's move on!

- Excuse me! - he asks. - The plan is this... I'm landing on Goa and plan to take that province to provide us a port and a good beachhead in there. And then I head to the capital and then Orissa, and you capture the coastal provinces, one by one.

- Agreed.

The army is very big. It can't be loaded at once on the ships. Thus, Almeida goes first, with 23k men, on the 19/0/2 portuguese navy.

January 26th, 1513: Tristão da Cunha dies near the spanish island of Martinique. Heavy storms sunk his ship, and he was eaten alive by a shark.

February 1st: The fleet arrives on the coast of Goa. War is declared, and Vijaynagar's ally, Orissa, is embargoed from the portuguese centers of trade. Almeida starts to land there.

February 24th: Correos discovers goldmines in the brazilian province of Mato Grosso.

March 3rd: Vijaynagar is embargoed.

March 6th: Goa is taken by a quick assault. Almeida heads to the Vijaynagar's capital, the province of Bangalore. Having stablished the port and beachhead, the navy goes back to Zanzibar to take Afonso de Albuquerque with his troops.

035.jpg

May 6th: Almeida easily takes the capital after a quick assault. The enemy army seems too poorly equiped... Almeida notices that a big army, with more than 30k men, is being formed in the province of Hyderabad, north of Bangalore. He prefers to avoid direct combat, so he heads to Yanam.

After that, the portuguese army under Brigadier Almeida goes through the Vijaynagar's and Orissa's territory like hot knife in butter. They meet no resistance and easily assault all the forts. Before Albuquerque arrives, he takes Yanam and the Orissan provinces of Palakimedi and Behampur.

September 11th: Albuquerque lands with his army in Goa, equaly numbered to the former Almeida's one. He heads to Mangalore. On the same day, 14k Orissans besiege the portuguese city of Calcutta.

And then, the two armies continue fighting and conquering the provinces like german panzers going into Poland. Mangalore, Kerala, Behampur, Odisa, Kerala, one by one they were kneeling down in front of the portuguese troops.

November 10th: More than 30 thousand enemy soldiers, probably from Vijaynagar, besiege the captured city of Goa.

November 24th: The portuguese navy (19/0/2), using the new cannons, sinks a whole combined Vijaynagarian/Orissan navy of 8/0/2 ships near Calcutta, thus ending their naval blockade to the city.

And then, more child's play blitzkrieg to the portuguese. Cochin, Trivandrum, Sambalpur, Bastar, Madras, Madurai... all of them and all of the orissan territory was now under portuguese control. With no other choice, Orissa accepted the Almeida's demands: the provinces of Palakimedi and Behampur to the portuguese crown.

The blitzkrieg continues... Pondicherry, Mysore and Maharashta were taken. Only Hyderabad lasts, and Almeida will take care of it.

June 26th, 1514: The portuguese army under Almeida fights the only battle against an army during this war. He easily defeats 12k soldiers in Hyderabad. The portuguese have pikes, arquebuses and cavalry; the indians barely have swords! After that, he quickly assaults and controls the province.

036.jpg

July 20th: Having no other coice, Almeida accepts peace with Vijaynagar. He now controls all tbe coastal provinces of them except for Madras.

Lisboa, 23th July, 1514 A.D.. The Royal Palace.

- Unfortunatelly, the Vijanaygarian ruler refused at all cost to give us Madras, king.

- Yes, Araujo, but this is no problem. Almeida and Albuquerque both did a great job! We can take it on a next war... and we teached a good lesson to those hateful pagans...

- I am very concerned and worried about our very bad reputation over the other countries. We are getting very hated!

- It's only envy, Araujo... don't care about it. We are only doing what God gave us the right to do! And, don't forget, we didn't violate the Treaty of Tordesillas... so we are doing only our right.

- Okay... and the Malacca's ambassador is complaining too much that we are taking their place on the indian trade!

- Order him to go to hell... his nation will pay for his insolence... do not forget that Malacca is under our sphere of influence, so their lands should also be ours by right!

Scott, thanks for supporting my AAR!

Yes, the BB wars are getting closer... my BB rating is now 38.0 out of 40.0. And since D. Manuel I is very warmonger and I have two awesome leaders, and more than 30k troops to play with in the Indies... Don't forget that now I have Malacca as a core!:D :D

I know that I'm violating one of my house rules, that only allows me an offensive war when I have low BB, but it's better to violate them and have fun than to keep yourself hasted and have a boring play.

I'm planning to have the next play in VH/Furious, just to have really real BB wars to have Spain and France do the fighting to me:D

EDIT: wrong BB values

Chapter V, part VI

King Manuel I (October/1495 - December/1521)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Lisboa, 1st August, 1514 A.D.. The Royal Palace.

The king receives a letter from Sultan Mahmud Shah I, from Malacca.

"Due to your provocations on the Indies, due to your intentions of replacing my role on the trade here in Asia, me and my ally Atjeh declare war on your hatefull kingdom. You shall pay tribute to Allah!"

- Araujo, look at it! This makes me laugh!... - the king laughts loudly.

- They are no real threat for us, but we shall respond with charge!

- Of course... let's teach those infidels a lesson! I am ordering Alfonso de Albuquerque to show them our might!

- The new equipment you sent them before the last war will help us a lot...

038.jpg

On the same day, a portuguese spy called De Baja, with his small army of 500 men, started to wage a revolt in Malacca. The king was forced to take a national loan to fund De Baja.

Malacca, 3rd August, 1514 A.D..

The whole army of De Baja was captured, enjailed and locked. About 340 died on battle, and the others are captured. Sultan Mahmud Shah I met all of them and started to talk.

- So, your silly infidel... do you want to make an uprising inside my own reign? Ha ha ha ha ha... you're an idiot! Manuel is also another... chicken. Yes, chicken! If he wants to face my armies, why don't he come here himself? He's not a man... he's not human... he is a real chicken. Those silly christians... may Allah pray for their souls! Ha ha ha ha ha!...

- Infidel! May God...

- SHUT UP, YOUR BASTARD! You don't deserve a place on Earth... neither in the skies... neither one of your soldiers. Look at me! Allah is the only god, and Mohammed is his prophet! He is the only one! Pray for Allah! Go! Pray for Allah!

- No way, your heaten!

- Pray for Allah!

- No! Drink wine, your stupid muslim!

- Pray for Allah!

- No way! Go eat some pork! God is the only one! Jesus Christ is his only son, son of Mary and Joseph!

- Your... your...

- I believe in father God all-powerfull, the creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only son and our Lord, who was born by the power of the Holy Soul...

- SHUT UP!... Stop saying those profane words!

- I claim Malacca for the king Manuel of Portugal!

- You don't have the power, you don't have the might! Manuel wants Malacca? So ask him to come here and take it by himself! Ha ha ha ha ha... Yes, guards... lock their hands! Lock their mouths! Lock their feet and their legs!

It was done.

- Now, you all are going to pay TRIBUTE to what you've done... or what you wanted to do, because you didn't! De Baja, you stay! But you're gonna see each one of your friends dying... one by one...

And then the guards took all of them - and De Baja - to the harbour with the sultan. The people looked atonished.

- People of Malacca! They are infidels who deserve their doom!

And the people celebrated.

They were all put on a big merchant vessel, and then it sailed to the high sea. And then, by lunchtime...

- I want, guards, that one by one of those silly men come here to the board.

One by one, they were going, brought by the guards. The king fastened a heavy weight on the first.

- This one will meet Allah in the deep of the ocean!

And he was thrown away. All of them but De Baja. The portuguese commander was horrified.

By the end of the afternoon, the vessel went back to the harbour. De Baja was taken to the largest public square of the city. The crowd was heavily there, watching everything. There was a noose and a gallows ready at the middle of the square. And there were lots of coal and firewoods near.

- Guards! Get the noose ready! Put him there, but don't start the party!

And it was done.

- Citizens of Malacca. This is De Baja, the man who tried to conquer Malacca for the infidel portuguese! He says that Jesus Christ is lord!

- Ooooohhhhhhhhh... - people got surprised. - Kill the infidel! Make him perish!

- Wait! Let's say a little prayer before...

Everybody kneeled down, heading their heads to the west, towards Mecca.

- Allah, you are the only one. There is no other but you and Mohammed. The Koran states that we can't tolerate heresy inside your domains... Feel sorry for De Baja's soul, but you know he deserves it.

After the prayer, people standed up again.

- Wanna say your last words, De Baja?

- Yes. I am sorry for you. But you shall be a part of the portuguese kingdom, in the grace of God!

- Let's have fun, people... Guards! Lit fire! And start to pull the noose!

It was a horrible scene. Horrible to see him dying that way. But the people celebrated with a big party all over Malacca.

September 24th: Albuquerque, with 21 thousand men, boards on the portuguese fleet, with 22/0/2 ships.

November 22nd: The colony of Jakarta is taken and occupied by malaccan forces. For the first time, Portugal begins a war losing territory.

December 1st: General Afonso de Albuquerque besieges Malacca. The navy starts to bombard the city with its cannons.

039.jpg

December 13rd: Aided by naval bombardment, Albuquerque assaults and captures the city, suffering minimal losses. Rumors are that the sultan managed to escape alive.

December 16th: Correos discovered the Inca Empire.

December 17th: The king takes another loan, to fund the war.

December 25th: A small army engaged the portuguese army in Malacca and in the same day fled to the north. Rumors are that the sultan was leading that army.

January 4th, 1515: Flotilla Admiral De Queiros awards the title of explorer by the king. He is ordered to explore the seas in the Jakarta region, or the East Indies.

January 25th: Albuquerque starts assaulting Johor, the new capital of Malacca. The country was split in two, when Perak was granted independence in the north.

040.jpg

February 15th: Johor, the last malayan holding, is taken. The sultan wasn't found in the city, but an advisor accepted peace with Albuquerque in exchange for Malacca and 100 ducats in tribute.

A few days later, in Lisboa...

- Yes, we succeded! - Araujo celebrates.

- Like it should be, I must admit. But, what about De Baja?

Araujo explains.

- No! It can't be true! - the king exclaims. - It's an insult to the portuguese people!

- But that's what happened. Albuquerque had to conquer Malacca in his place.

- Well... now you see our privileged position. We own Malacca! We own Calcutta! We own Zanzibar! The Indies are beginning to be ours! But, let's try not to sleep, my friend... - the king smiles and opens his eyes...

- Another war? - Araujo asks.

- You'll see... soon... You know I am thirsty to drink some infidel more blood...

Chapter V, part VII

Chapter V, part VII

King Manuel I (October/1495 - December/1521)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Malacca, 2nd March, 1515 A.D.. At the Portuguese HQ.

General Afonso de Albuquerque talks to the portuguese governor.

- I am worried about two things, governor. The first is: the malayan sultan will surely want venegance. As I am gatting old, I don't know if I'll be able to command our troops in case of another war.

- What is the second?

- It's related to the first. Thinking on it, I want the current fortress to be enlarged and strenghtened. We cannot lose this city to anyone, be it malayan, be it european, be it any other!

- We don't have funds...

- King Manuel I has allowed me to take a bank loan to fund it. The enlargement of the fortress will cost us 100 ducats. It will be the largest portuguese fortress ever!

- All right then. We need to protect our new holdings!

- And I shall give a name to the fortress. It will be called "A Famosa", or "The Famous" if you want to speak on another language. More than 15 thousand enemy men will be needed to besiege it properly!

Lisboa, 5th April, 1515 A.D.. The Royal Palace.

At dinner, the king is having a meeting with Araujo.

- Really good this tea brought from the Indies, isn't it Araujo?

- Oh, yes. I can't fell better!

- The european merchants are buying it at a high price here in Lisboa and in Alexandria. It's becoming more popular among the nobles, and its price is very high! It gives us a nice profit!

- For sure, king. Portugal isn't the poor country it was at the start of your reign. You changed it. Now we are one of the most rich countries in Europe!

- Thinking on the spice production, I want to expand our lands in the East Indies...

- Through war? Or through colonization?

- Through war... I want Brunei to be a portuguese holding! They produce spices and are in a good position to advance into China!

- I strongly recomend you not to do it, king.

- Why? We have the troops! We have the navy! We have brilliant generals! We have high-quality weapons!

- Not because of that, lord. At least now, I ask you permission to give you good reasons why you don't have to wage war now.

- Okay, permission conceded.

- We have expanded through conquest with almost no stop in the last 15 years. We enlarged too much our possessions that I am not sure if we can hold them in the long term! We need to take care of them if we want to really benefit from the spice production and trade. You know, most of all spice sold by us in Europe until now was result of... pillage! Yes, pillage, not really production or trade! And..

- Go on with that. I want to hear until the end. Don't fear!

Araujo finishes his glass of indian tea. He goes on with his talk.

- Yes, we have the troops. We have a powerfull navy, and we have generals. But I am sure that if we go on more wars, the world will turn against us with everyone declaring war on us. We have no conditions to support a world war against us! Neither do France, Aragon, Zapotec or Spain, our allies. Can you imagine having us losing Alexandria to the mamelukes or the ottoman turks? Can you imagine losing Lagos to our vassal, Benin, or to Oyo, Hausa or even Songhai? And what if Bengal with his ally, Gujarat, conquer Calcutta from us, and Kilwa takes Zanzibar back? We'll be lost for good! And, worse yet... Imagine the venetian besieging our capital... and raiding on our brazilian colonies... All we have is a small regiment of about 12 thousand men in Alexandria. The bunch of our army is in the Indies.

- Stop! Enough! I go back on my decision. Let's improve our provinces! Don't forget that in some years we'll need to pay three bank loans off...

- Good to see that you reverted your decision. I'm proud of you, Manuel!

And then the king ordered that the colonies in Brazil should be expanded, as he wants to go more inland to get the gold. He also ordered Jakarta to be expanded, and ordered tax collectors to be stablished on all the indian provinces.

December 20th: The malayans revolted against the portuguese rule. General Afonso de Albuquerque promptly crushed the rebelion, but he was killed in battle when a malayan stealed a portuguese gun and then fired at him. His body was sent to Zanzibar, as he wished to be buried there.

After Albuquerque's death, revolts happened all over the indies. Yanam, Goa, Palakimedi, Zanzibar, Calcutta, Cochin... one by one they were revolting, and one by one they were being crushed, most of them by the portuguese army under Brigadier Almeida. Even the catholic province of Sahara, south of Morroco, has revolted! The king had to order new expensive cavalry divisions to be recruited, only to crush that revolt.

The only problems were Sofala and Rozwi, former zimbabwean provinces. The portuguese army took long time to arrive in Zimbabwe, and the rebels managed to take control of those provinces. But they were promptly killed when the former portuguese army under General Albuquerque was brought there. The provinces were then retaken.

October 1st, 1517: The chinese diplomats signed an agreement with the government of Nippon. The agreement consists on the total annexation of Nippon by China. The king is alarmed, as he sees the increasing power of the chinese empire.

The effort of tax collecting showed results, as the king managed to pay the three loans. He had to cause some inflation to do that, but the gains in the Indies outfits the rising inflation.

May 1st, 1519: Brigadier Almeida died fighting rebelling forces in Calcutta, the city that he conquered from the bengalese sultan. He was buried inside the governor's palace there, as he wished to.

Lisboa, 5th December, 1520 A.D.. The Royal Palace.

- Calamity! Calamity! Calamity!

- What's up, Araujo?

- Don't you see the people of your own capital?

- Don't need to see them... I am the king! I rule from the palace!

- They are being killed by plague... by a great plague... It is bringing more unstability to our realm, and we are losing manpower fast!

- I don't believe...

- Even in the indies there is plague. I think this is result of having contacts with too many different peoples at the same time! More than three tousand people died here in Lisboa, more than two thousand in Goa, more than one thousand in Malacca.

- This seems serious... I want to use the money from trade and spice production to help those people. And let's pray for God to heal those people! - the king is alarmed. - Let's do it before the plague arrives on the palace!

Lisboa, 18th December, 1521 A.D.. The Royal Palace.

The king is on his death bed. He's too sick. He got the plague himself, one year ago, but it was very slowly showing effect.

- I am dying, Araujo... I die, but I don't know if my son, João, will take good care of our kingdom.

- I am sure he will, lord.

- During my reign I greatly expanded our lands. I brought wealth to our country. We explored new lands, colonized new continents, met new faiths and cultures. I brought glory to the portuguese and to the catholic faith! And, better yet, we learned not to trust on the venetians.

The king coughs a lot.

- Before dying, I want to ask you one thing... How do you manage to have news from the Indies only some days after having them happening?

- It is simple. You know I am immortal, right? And I have telepatic powers, so I can have "meetings" with other telepatic people around the world. Thus, I know what happens anywhere.

- I don't call you heretic... you helped me a lot. Tell my son to convert those pagans in the indies. Tell him to convert the muslims in Zanzibar and Malacca. Tell him to convert the zimbabweans to the one and true faith. Tell my son to colonize Brazil and to show respect to our spanish brothers. Try to convince him you're not heretic, you only have special powers. Tell him to...

And the king died. A huge mass was celebrated at the cathedral the next day, with his body present. And then he was buried, with thousands people watching the cerimony and crying. On Christmas, his son was crowned king. He was crowned as D. João III.

Very nicely written, and a really nice death scene! The Screenies are showing some really interesting things...Golden Horde still alive and the Mamelukes are doing really well, which is sort of surprising. Japan diplo annexed by China...I've never seen that before.

One thing: do you prefer the screenshots as they are now, or would it be better if I put thumbnails with links to the "full" screenies?

"God surely brings you, because he wants
Some service by yours realized;
Because of this He solely guide you, and defend you
From the enemies, from the sea, from the furious wind.
You know you are in India, where streches
Diverse people, rich and prosperous.
Of luminous gold and delicate quarry,
Mild smell, ardent spice.

This province, whose port is now
Taken, Malabar is called:
Of old worship the idols adore,
Which here on these places sprinkles:
From many kings it is, but from only one
On another time, according to the old fame;
Saramá Perimal was the hindmost
King, that this realm had united and as a whole."

(Luís de Camões)

Lisboa, 11th January, 1522 A.D..

The new king is having his morning walking with Araujo. He likes to excercise himself. They are walking along the beaches near the capital. Four guards in civilian clothes follow them at a safe distance, just for security pourposes.

- Yes, king. The wars led by your father left our kingdom too unstabilized. We are having a hard time to hold our new lands in the Indies. Remember the revolts in the end of his reign?

- Yes, I do remember. We can't let that happen. The main goals of my reign are to convert the new conquered lands, giving priority to the pagan lands, and to colonize those gold producing lands in Brazil. Yes, my father was wrong. The people in India proper aren't pagans. They have a new religion, quite organized despite of the hundreds of gods they worship. Let's call it hinduism.

- I tried to convince your father of that, but he thought that they were pagans! Anyway...

- And I want to have land connections with all our possessions in India proper and to own all its coastline. This means war against Vijaynagar and Orissa, and we shall need to finish Orissa. But not now. Our reputation is still too bad and I don't want to cripple our economy too soon or to overload our allies fighting european wars for us!

- Wise decision.

- But today I install the first act of my government. After having lunch, I will tell the mameluke ambassador in Portugal that their merchants are not wellcome in our centers of trade anymore. They are stealing a quite large trading share from our merchants, and we can't allow that!

- Isn't that enough reason to have them declaring war on us?

- Having Alexandria and the Nile's delta is already enough. But they didn't wage war against us for decades!

- Surely. You are right. Let's embargo them!

- And I need to stabilize our realm in order to get the economic prosperity we desperately need. Ah... after embargoing the mamelukes, I leave to Spain. Need to meet king Carlos. You come with me, okay?

- Sure.

Madrid, 19th January, 1522 A.D.. The Royal Spanish Palace.

King Carlos I, king João III and Araujo are having an excellent dinner, with food that the spanish brought from their westlands holdings, as well as portuguese sugar and tea and spice from the Indies.

- D. João, my friend... I desperately need your help. Really. Things are happening that may hurt Portugal badly!

- Tell me, most catholic spanish king. United we can overrun any trouble!

- I'm really worried... our ally, better, our former ally France has declared war on England. Do you know who is on the english alliance? The Pope...

- We wouldn't make war against the Pope!

- Of course not... but, whilst they called our alliance, the austrian parlament has declared me unable to rule from Madrid and actually honoured the alliance. Technically I am the austrian archduke, but I have no power at all... Do you understand me? I also don't want to declare war on them, since my cousin François I of France would then make war on us. We need to avoid wars now; we need to colonize our lands!

- I understand your point, but... - Carlos interrupts João.

- My uncle Afonso VI of Aragon, son of my grandfather the former spanish catholic king Fernando, also joined the war! I have too much respect for him... I don't want to annex his lands by force. Don't want to kill him. Don't want to fight many cousins of mine and even cousins of you! You are the most trustfull king of Europe, the only one whose kingdom never fought the Pope. Your kingdom defended our faith against the muslims... converted heathens... we are like brothers.

D. João III starts to think. Calling him "brother" may show as a sign of an unification of the iberian crown under Carlos, which of course he doesn't want. He goes carefully.

- Well, tell the french diplomats and ambassadors that from now until the end of the world Portugal isn't a part of the french alliance! In the place of that, I invite you, D. Carlos I, to form an alliance with me. - Yes, he wants an unique crown... but under Portugal!

- Just, wise and good. I accept. We don't need them! But, despite they are all of my family, and your family, we can't trust on them all the time... Let's leave the austrians do whatever they want! They will implode... sooner or later... and also the french and the aragonese. Despite having my uncle there as king... but he needs to learn some things!

After a few days, D. João III and Araujo go back to Lisboa.

Rome, 1st February, 1522 A.D..

Despite the ongoing war, the Pope has a reunion with many high priests and bishops. A council.

- See the map, priests? A new faith is spreading all over Europe. They call themselves "protestant". They don't agree on our determinations! They don't agree on the true faith! They are... heretics! They don't accept to read the bible in Latin... they prefere to read it in German! In English! In Polish! In Danish! Or even in Russian! And other languages!

- Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh... - they screamed.

- Can we accept it?

- No! Never! Infidels!

- They tell that we are more infidel than them! Let's get ready to act, men... God won't like to see his own people mistreating Him.

In Lisboa, the same day...

- Did you see it, king? It seems that a new faith is spreading all over northern Europe!

- The muslims? The hinduists? The pagans? The orthodoxes? Are they conquering northern Europe?

- No... it's a christian heresy called "protestantism". Many of them negate the bible; others, the Pope. There are ones that declare the english king of being the pope, even having the english king being a good catholic and trustfull to the Pope! And others don't accept the Virgin Maria. Many of them don't believe in Devil, only God... how to accept it?

- Do they exist here in Portugal?

- Well... no news yet... anyway, we need to protect ourselves! They are mostly concentrated in England, scandinavia and the germanic lands.

- Another good reason to stay on the spanish alliance, Araujo - the king states. - I am sure that Carlos isn't happy with that. But, I declare that those "protestants" are not wellcome in Portugal! They shall be treated as heretics! Infidels!

October 4th: The people in Calicut, in the indian province of Kerala, have founded a naval college themselves! They are studying ship building techniques and new instruments... Chinese mariners were suddenly called to work, teach and research there. Araujo wellcomes the good news with a big party in the Lisboa's docks!

Lisboa, 4th March, 1523 A.D.. The Royal Palace.

- King, reliable reports tell me that the people are revolting against your rule in the Nile delta!

- Let them revolt... I don't want more muslim lands now. That province never gave us good profits! We don't need that.

- As you wish.

Lisboa, 16th August, 1523 A.D.. The Royal Palace.

Araujo receives news about the anglo-french war.

- Sire, they signed peace! On their agreement, François I secedes the provinces Munster and Lothian, french holdings in the Ireland, to the king Henry VIII of England.

- These are great news! The french ended weakened by that foolish war! I'm going to write François I a letter... you'll see...

"Your most real french s**t,

Do you see what happens to declare war on the Pope? You lose territory! You lose lands! God punishes you! I hope you reconsider your wars... Are you telling us you follow that evil protestant "faith"?

Your ingorant! Insignificant!"

- What to you think? - The king asks.

- Good. He deserves it. He shows to be heretic by attacking the papal alliance!

September 4th: The german duchy of Meißen officially converts to Protestantism. D. João III, D. Carlos I and the Pope are alarmed with the growing of that heresy!

January 7th, 1524: The city of Damietta is now under rebel control.

Lisboa, 29th May, 1524 A.D.. The Royal Palace.

The king receives a letter from François I of France.

"Your imbecile and evil portuguese scum,

Today I claim that the portuguese and spanish lands are now a part of the french, austrian and aragonese kingdoms. Your feeble mind didn't honour our former alliance, so you shall be punished to death!

Respectfully,

King François I of France, Spain and Portugal."

- This is... this is... - the king sighs.

- ...already predictable, Lord - Araujo finishes.

- Those infidels have declared war on me! I'm afraid, Araujo, I'm afraid...

- What do you fear, king?

- I fear that Carlos might not take part on the war, because of all his relatives involved. Without him... we are dead! We have no army here, and it's expansive to have one!

- But we have our navy! If Carlos doesn't honour the alliance, which I doubt, we use the "invencible portuguese navy" to protect our ports and destroy their navies whilst we slowly recruit an army to beat them.

- Yes, let's do it! And pray for God... Carlos must honour our blood alliance!

- He will, be sure. He hates the austrian parlament.

- And now, tell the french, aragonese and austrian ambassadors that their merchants aren't wellcome on our centers of trade anymore! For good! They will pay...

On the same day, in the palace of Carlos I...

The spanish king receives a letter from the austrian parlament.

"In support to our french friends, we declare that Austria is no longer a spanish vassal. You are unable to rule our country; we follow our french friends! We declare war on Spain and Portugal and claim the spanish throne to the true Habsburg dinasty! Praise the austrian lords!"

And he also receives a letter from his uncle, Afonso VI of Aragon.

"Nephew, I honour my alliance with France and Austria. I declare that Aragon is no more a spanish vassal! You are unable to control my country! I claim the spanish crown to the true aragonese dinasty!"

- AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH... God! Pardon me, but I have no other choice! I claim the Austrian throne to me! I claim the French throne to me! May all my relatives excuse me, but my cousin isn't really able to rule the french people... and may my uncle reconsider everything he says, because I claim the aragonese lands to the spanish crown! Peacefully or by war! I respect my uncle, so I'll give him a fine exile in the island of Curaçao, surrounded by many sharks! He deserves it...

The Iberian peninsula will be burnt into flames... He who lives will make history. He who lives won't believe he's alive. He who lives will thank God. He who lives will be greatly awarded.

Sounds like things will be heating up in western Europe real soon. Though this is the chance for Portugese influence to expand on the continent, if things go well. Great update.
