(OOC: I'm using the portuguese version for the names of cities. For provinces, not necessarily. Example: the portuguese name for León would be Leão, but I didn't use it. If you have any doubts, tell it, so I can clarify it. Also, since I'm comming back to write, don't expect this installment to be a masterpiece!

)
March 25th (Anibal's birthday), 1580: The missionaries are succesfull converting the mexican people in Jalisco! Now they not only speak Portuguese, but they also worship the Holy Trinity!
April 14th: Reports arrive in Lisboa telling that a small portuguese regiment has overrun two spanish colonies without encountering resistence: Aires and Copetonas. They are located just south of Paraná.
April 16th: A strategic report of the war - usefull for newbies who want to wage war! Antonio do Crato leads his army in León and other portuguese armies besiege Astúrias and Estremadura, whilst strong forces awaits in Porto just in case of trouble... Alessandro Farnese stands still in Gibraltar, waiting that cows start to cough. The same with another army outside the walls of Madri.
May 24th: Antonio do Crato massacres with cavalry a small spanish infantry regiment in the province of León. This is the first battle of the war!
June 6th: A big naval battle starts in the Straits of Gibraltar between the Invencible Portuguese Armada and the combined genoese-spanish fleet. It lasts two weeks and ends with a slight portuguese victory. This is the only real naval battle of the war.
July 13th: The feared Alessandro Farnese and his powerful army starts to besiege Sevilha, the capital of the province of Andalusia!
Lisboa, 19th of August, 1580 A.D.. The Imperial Palace "D. João III de Avis".
Araujo, regent of the portuguese government during the war, has just received a letter. He readly opens it, and reads it drinking wine from the Cape of Good Hope.
"Dear Araujo,
I am proud to announce that my troops have just made the spanish garrison in the city of Salamanca surrender to our forces. Consider the city and the province of León in our hands! Now I am ready to march towards Madri...
Best wishes,
Antonio do Crato."
October 14th: The siege of Madri starts. At the same time, the portuguese garrison at Porto starts to march south in an atempt to break Farnese's forces outside Sevilha.
November 15th: Cowardly, Farnese has ordered his abandon the siege of Sevilha. He retrates, fearing the might of the Holy Imperial Portuguese Armed Forces! From this day on, the word Farnese has becomen a popular slang for the portuguese people: it mwans coward!
November 23th: Spanish troops captured the undefended Canary islands, claiming their old territory for themselves.
January 23rd, 1581: Badajóz, capital of Estremadura, fell to the portuguese forces. Antonio do Crato is now leaving a siege force outside Madri to reinforce the portuguese garrison in Estremadura for upcomming events...
March 7th: Missionaries fail to convert the mexican people in Michoagan. They revolt but the revolters are quickly crushed.
June 21st: The great moment arrived: Antonio do Crato is attacked by forces of Alessandro Farnese in Estremadura! The battle lasts exactly one month. Crato has terrian advantage, more infantry and uses firearms better than Farnese. Who wins? Crato, of course! Farnese is really a "farnese"...
August 22nd: Crato and Farnese meet again, this time outside the wals of Porto. This time Crato has more infantry and cavalry, and the cavalry really makes a difference on the plains. Also, the morale of the spanish troops is very low due to the blitzkrieg that Portugal is doing through spanish territory! Crato wins, of course. He's portuguese, so he has to win.
September 27th: The city of Burgos, capital of Astúrias, is captured by portuguese forces!
October 4th: Once again, Crato and Farnese meet. This time, they meet outside the wals of La Corunha, in Galícia. Using more infantry numbers and superior firearms, Crato defeats Farnese once more. Farnese is even hit by a bullet and dies in the battlefield, but the portuguese troops didn't notice this particular happening. They kept on thinking that Farnese was leading the spanish troops, because the spanish soldiers fought too bad and with a very low morale always... yes, they are farneses!
(OOC: there were lots of small battles here and there, but only battles where the dumb AI sends like 3k hopeless soldiers against my mighty forces. So, no worth describing them.)
Lisboa, 14th of October, 1581 A.D.. The Imperial Palace "D. João III de Avis".
An important letter arrives to Araujo. This time is from Alcântara, colonel who leads one of the portuguese armies.
"Most holy regent Araujo,
I am very proud to announce that Madri, the spanish capital, has surrendered to my troops. Civilians who resist are being killed in public square as an example for those who resist to the portuguese might. The spanish king, D. Felipe II, and the high members of his court who didn't die on battle were taken as prisioners and I'm sending them to be enjailed in Lisboa, so you can discuss the terms of peace directly with them.
God bless you,
Alcântara."
Araujo then orders a great military parade to be done in Lisboa to celebrate the fall of Madri! The clerigy is to outraged that they demand more power over the people, to get some of their old power. Araujo has to agree, because the war is really draning all the imperial resources and he needs support.
January 21th, 1582: Portuguese forces force the spanish garrison of Toledo to surrender. The gold mines of Toledo are now in portuguese hands!
October 17th: The city of Bilbao, capital of Cantabria, fells to portuguese forces.
Lisboa, 1st November, 1580 A.D.. The Imperial Palace "D. João III de Avis".
With the news that Bilbao has fallen to the Holy Imperial Portuguese Armed Forces, Araujo feels he can now impose very good terms for peace. He has already ordered the guards to bring the spanish royalty to the palace, after being prisioners for one whole year, so they can discuss (that is, impose) the terms officialy!
- Araujo! They have arrived! - A guard shouts.
- Let them in! To the reunion chamber! And with many guards doing security!
Antonio do Crato is also in the palace, and will also participate of the negociations.
And so, the peace talks begin...
