Rulers dying faster than you would think ?

Hi so basically I had one ruller that rulled for 29 years and then died. That would not be so unnormal. But. His son after 2 years of rule probably decided to follow his father into the grave. The son of this guy died after 5 years of rule. Is this normal ? WTF Paradox ? I wanted to snipe Poland but now I have to wait 10 years for my heir (also she is queen and also useless like 0/2/2) gets old enough. Is this repayment after getting 6/6/6 ruler Paradox ?

I've had rulers last days and rulers who lasted decades. You only notice the ones which are unusual, you forget about that 5/3/4 moderate-decent ruler who lived 50 years, you notice the guy who was 5/6/6 and died in 2 days. It's just how our human brains work.

Although the funniest I've had in recent times was the time I got a 0/0/2 who died just a few days before his father (my current ruler) and got replaced by his genius brother. That...that was a good time.

Thats quite normal. I am not sure how its coded, but based on what I see in the game - I think the game checks your technological progress. So if you are ahead of time lets say in military, but behind the time in diplomacy and administration - this game will kill your current ruler (1.1.6) and gives you another ruler (6.6.1) instead. And the same way I suspect all other "random" events work. They are not actually that random, they just try to normalize your progression.

Moreover, you can basically define your future ruler, by not progressing in technology too much, but damping monarch points somewhere else - on generals, development and so on.

In the EU4 timeframe, people died of lots of things. Nobility might've had better living conditions and access to better medicine than the poor, but generally speaking both medicine and personal hygiene were at very low levels. it was not uncommon to see a 80 % death rate before maturity even in royal families.

The same was true for soldiers (and thus generals). More people died from disease than from combat wounds.

TLDR: If your ruler reigns for 40 years, consider it a minor miracle.
