I realised I had some spare change laying around and nearly enough blue coins to buy it to begin with, so I decided to go ahead and grab it. As a whole, I agree with the other posters. Paradox, please allow us to simply edit historical characters.

Also, the hats aren't working right, I don't think. If I change the clothing or head gear for a character, it simply defaults to a different set once you load up. For example, I gave my first character that background with people being hanged and a black cloak, but he loaded up with the tavern background and mail.

Another thing I found strange is, if you choose to play as let's say the Duke of X, and you edit this person, if you change their gender to a female, her title is still Duke. It doesn't change to Duchess. So this kind of defeats the purpose of creating a new character, as opposed to simply editing the historical character. Kinda weird, considering that the idea seems to be that we can create brand new dynasties which are completely historically inaccurate, yet can't change the gender of the person so that the game recognizes it..

(Which I hope will be removed in future patches, as people will have learned about the DLCs by that point, that ad is just annoying.)

Especially an add that is not working!
I'd like to buy the DLC, but cant... unless i buy it form a place PI cant guarantee its compatibility...

Agreed. I noticed this as well, but it's not just the hats and the backgrounds- also the clothes. Lots of times the clothing I chose changed to something else once I began playing with the person. Not a huge deal, but still irritating b/c I don't know why we even have the option to change the clothing then.

Well, did you want to start as a courtier?

It would be interesting to be able to start as a baron, or as one of the potential heirs to a title.

When you load the game, it changes to the appropriate gender-specific title.

The ability to change clothing is a bit of false advertising. Clothing is determined by station and activities of charac ters. You can give yourself a crown, but you won't keep it unless you are a king. Character also change clothes in game all the time too. A widowed Empress will keep her regalia until she marrys a duke, then she will change to a Duchess Regalia. A count will wear a helmet on campaign, a layman will get a mitre when made chaplain, etc.

*edit* I'm also disappointed that it isn't possible to make cosmetic changes (face, chin, etc.) to existing characters. This is the whole reason why I wanted the DLC, and I hope this will be added to it later.

I was wondering about that.

Does that "hardcoding" of clothing remain in 1.05?

My understanding of "visualize" is that it simply allows you to see what your created character will look like in all forms of clothing that he/she may wear throughout the game.

Ok at least the description of Steam seems to be right:

"The Ruler Designer lets you create your own character when starting a new game."

Well 4,99 EUROS(!!!) not $ seem a little bit too much just to create ONE Ruler when you start a new game. Sorry but WTF

You do get to add your own CoA (within limits). Some people will see it as useful, some not so much.
I suppose the main thing is going to be spicing the game up when you've played through a few scenarios with the historical guys.

I'm glad the new description is accurate at least, but it's a far cry from what they first said and shown about it when it was announced =(

So i buy it now, but i am disappointed to. The idea is really nice, but in ingame it is not. First I thought i could made a real cool CoA but i have to use just the old boring Symbols which i hate since the beta. I have the CoA Dlc pack with some really nice CoAs with great quality, but i can't get them to a new baron. That the clothes are changing ingame was mentioned before and i wished also that it would be possible to decide in a running game, what you charakter is wearing.

Just got the Beard Designer (finally), and a few points that jumped out at me.

1. The career traits don't make any sense to be attached to the age, in a normal game you get these on a scale dependent on your tutor. Being a Grey Eminence would not automatically make me 30+ years old, I'd have it at 16 if I got a lucky roll. Either make it a progressive trait linked to age for everyone in the game, so say every 10 years you move up a rank in the relevant career, or detach it from age competely and use a points based system for stats (ie. a rank 4 career costs all your points) and use age for the minor traits (with double cost).

2. I can't change any colours in the CoA designer when I add emblems, it's all black. BUG or just me?

3. As everyone else is saying, was lead to believe I could edit existing characters appearance only. This is really disappointing unfortunately.

4. Apparently all Basques have black hair...

5. On a positive note, it is useful assuming you want to create a completely random guy/girl to start with, which saves you searching the map clicking counties to find someone.

6. I wouldn't pay 5EUR for a DLC again like this. There's not enough in it to justify that cost, regardless of how much development time went into it.

Anyway, first guy I made as a count, called to lead troops in a war within 2 months of starting, died in a siege without heirs, game over... so much for my uber count of doom... :D

EDIT: and changing your health makes you older?! Erm...

Is it possible to put our own emblems/symbols in a folder which belongs to the ruler creator and give so more possible options? I like the idea, but not the rare number of variants ;)

I play The Witcher 2 parallel and just created a German Emperor Emhyr vas Emreis ;) I just need a big golden sun ;) And ofcourse i am not Catholic^^

You can't edit existing historical characters because they are not balanced for the designer. Their traits is much better than anyone you can create with the designer, and even better they are younger too.

Is there any word yet of when the patch will be available on steam?
I don't understand why it's not there already. Or rather, I don't understand why it wasn't there yesterday. Why it's not there today is mind boggling.
