Where is the rubber? I have developed electricity factories, but there is no rubber in the whole world? Help!

I tried to read on different techs to find out what to research, but my english isn´t really that good. Anyone that can give me a hand?

The only industrial techs I don´t have is: adv. metallurgy (current study), synthetic Polymers, integral rail systems, limited-access roads, electric furnace, shift work, electrical power generation.

The year is 1900.

I´m sorry if this is written somwhere else, but I can´t find it. I looked. I have five electric factories that is ready or will be ready. I am a stupid guy!

???

Rubber is in Africa, SE Asia and South America. Even if, by some bizarre circumstances, no one has colonized any African or Asian province that produces rubber, you still should be able to buy some off the WM....

Could you post a screenshot? What country are you playing?

Do you have VIP installed?

We had a problem where players had installed VIP and then tried to play the original scenarios on their modded game. Big problem. While the original game starts with rubber in several African, South American and Asian provinces, the VIP mod overwrites the starting resource file (which is a universal file for all scenarios) so that there is no rubber at start, and then a series of events fires that replaces resources with rubber in various nations.

So if you have installed VIP on your version of Victoria, you have to play the VIP scenario. Otherwise your games will not have rubber because the original vanilla scenario does not have any events to convert provinces to rubber production.

BTW this is why VIP recommends installing the mod on a separate desktop copy of Victoria, not your HD-rooted copy. Because there is no mod-dir capability, VIP has to overwrite universal files for Victoria to create the right starting environment. This means once you install VIP you can only play VIP.

This is weird. I've never experienced anything like this, in fact rubber stays relatively worthless because anyone rarely builds the electric factories so there's an abudance of rubber.

The only logical conclusion is that for some reason that AI has built loads and loads of electric factories and is using up all the rubber.

So the african rubber producing provinces have been colonized by the AI?

OHGamer is correct.

The problem was that I had installed VR with 1:st VIP and then not played it, but played regular campaign, GC. I did it because I thaught that you only could play as GB in VIP.

So to anyone who gets the same problem as me: Cheat to get rubber! It is no danger in that because it is so cheap and easy to get in regular game so it won´t be a very big exploit to make sure you get it. Besides it´s the only way to get it... :)

Thank you all, especially OH Gamer.

Simply right click on the GB flag and all the others will come up. We have only one flag displayed at the start because it makes it much easier to switch nations during the course of a campaign if you so wish. Just save as one country, reload save and right click on flag and pick the new nation you want, and away you go.

honestly, start over and play the VIP scenarios. There are going to be other things not coming up right by playing the original GC on a VIP-modded version of Victoria - you won't have any oil either because as with Rubber we start the scenario with no oil provinces and then have events that convert provinces to oil.

So no oil = no fuel = no big ships.

EDIT - this situation is easily avoided if players would not install VIP on their hard-drive based copy of Victoria:Revolutions, but rather make a desktop copy of their Hard-Drive Victoria folder and then apply the VIP mod to the desktop copy. as we recommend in the setup instructions. Since Victoria has no mod-dir, VIP has to overwrite the base files, which means you can not play the original Victoria scenarios. By making a desktop copy of your Victoria folder and then applying VIP to that, and playing VIP from the desktop copy (by clicking the victoria.exe icon in your desktop folder), you can still play original Victoria with your Harddrive copy without mucking it up with the changes to universal files VIP must make. Just remember that on the VIP-modded version from the desktop, don't bother playing the original scenarios from Paradox, as they will be FUBAR'ed

I know...

I have´t been following the tips. I didn´t make two installations out of my little laptops memory...

But I still hesitate to restart. I have a splendid game with sweden/scandinavia. Finish and then play over again. The oil thing is no problem. I am number one so I get to buy what I want as long as it exists at all...

Thanks for everything...

In his game it would not matter, becuase he applied VIP on top of his installation.

VIP modifies basic universal game files - it has to because there is no mod-dir functionality that would allow for files of the same name to be separately kept and run by the game engine.

Thus, when he applied the VIP mod, the file provinces.csv in db was overwritten so that it had the setup for VIP.

This means no rubber at the start of the game - since it's not used in any applications.

VIP then has events that transform provinces to rubber producing ones once the techs that create industries that demand rubber come into play.

This means, however, that if you try to play the original scenarios for Victoria on a VIP-modded game, you will have no rubber. the original scenario does not include events to convert provinces to rubber, and by applying VIP you've removed all the base rubber provinces in the normal game, which in VIP start producing something else.

Which is why the VIP developers suggest installing VIP on a separate desktop copy of the contents of the Victoria folder rather than your hard-drive. Otherwise, if you try VIP and end up not liking it, you will have to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of Victoria to remove all the VIP traces from your Victoria folder.
