So as it was stated in hoi4 wiki site that we need steel, oil and rubber in order to build tanks.

Honestly, I am clueless why we need rubber to build tank. If I am not wrong, tanks use sprocket wheels to travel not rubber wheel other than that I cant think of anywhere of the tank that it require rubbers. Rubber wheels are for trucks and armoured cars though. Feel free to enlighten me

a few hundred kilos of rubber coated roadwheels, gaskets, hoses....probably not as much as a truck needs but yes. source: https://books.google.de/books?id=D_ReAgAAQBAJ&pg=PA184&lpg=PA184&dq=rubber needed for tanks&source=bl&ots=j5R2OjdwMc&sig=sOsiB5moAVKfp4m6vvhvr0e6IV0&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjWtdGO-6vMAhVGuxQKHRRxAPYQ6AEITTAG#v=onepage&q=rubber needed for tanks&f=false

But anyway its not true, a ingame tank according to the WWW´s only needs steel, oil and either tungsten ( for medium tanks) or chrome ( for heavy tanks ), basic light tanks like Panzer-I and -II only need steel and oil.

Production. M-3 tanks. Now you can see where your rubber tires are going! Stored in this large war plant are huge piles of finished M-3 tank rubber treads - only a few days' supply for the tank plant. Baldwin Locomotive Works

Some tanks used rubber for their tracks, today nearly all tanks use rubber for their tracks, but during ww2 a lot of tanks didn't.
Tanks honestly shouldn't need rubber in hoi4 in my opinion either. But then again, they shouldn't cost tungsten since that isn't construction material for tanks either, I am guessing the logic behind it is that they just need to cost variated resources for balance reasons, though i think rubber is the least justified one.

Why do you need chromium for heavy tanks anyway, but tungsten for medium. I fail to see the logic in this.

Chromium for highquality hardened steel for like Tigers yes, but then early war heavy tanks didn´t even have hardened armor and the russians didn´t use much high quality armor steel anyway. So dunno...

But all gun armed tanks should use tungsten - not only meds - because of the need to produce the gun barrels with tungstencarbide equipped tooling machines ( and to a lesser degree tungsten ammo for APCR and such).

Afaik, manganese, chromium, or nickel were all used in low concentrations in the steelmaking process (and could be interchangeable up to a point) for all tanks.

IIRC HOI4 lumps them all together to chromium and then assumes that only H-Arm needs it in a meaningful quantity to model it.
Due to game balance of course, and i can live with it no problem. (but i'd like it to be needed for high tech M-Arms too)

Rubber should not be used for tanks, but tungsten should be needed for all tanks as panzerzombie says. (unless not equipped with a cannon)

Germans were so desperate for rubber that during 1944, all tanks had to be produced with the lowest amount of rubber possible. Steel Tracks were invented to save most of it for the Panzer 4, Panzer 5 and 6, as well as 6B and their TD Variants.

Rather than use rubber in the track itself, most tanks used rubber rings (solid tires) around the so-called "road wheels" that contacted the inside of the track.

Rubber coated road wheels on a Sherman tank.

Also tungsten is used to make the sub-caliber tungsten carbide penetrator cores for HVAP and APCR ammunition used in tank guns. (and the more rare APCNR ammo)
