Things to note:
- CO is working on, in addition to tunnels and W2W (wall to wall) European buildings, something nobody has though about (let the speculation begin)
- Origins of Cities Skylines, Chirpy and modibility
- CO will go on a break for the entirety of July and will work on a new project along with CS afterwards
- A Timeline/List of what CO plans to add to the game will be released at some point to coordinate with modders

Wow! What a great interview, best one yet I've seen with Mariina. I love the way she talks about modders in the beginning, her genuine admiration for what they are doing with the game. If only more game companies had that attitude...

It's a cool company with a cool CEO. Lots of great details throughout and a must read for fans of the game.

And this part is truly exciting:
We do have something new coming that people don’t seem to have predicted – something that people haven’t thought about. I can’t wait to see how people react to that. It’s something that works on some of the features that are already in the game and makes them deeper, brings more feature-wise. Not so much in terms of graphical content – people can do that already. We want to put our effort into the simulation and the complexity of it, to add things that modders can’t.


Deeper industry chains? New requirements for CIM happiness? More interaction with the outside world? Prenatal care? lol I got no clue, but I can't wait.

Politics in CS?
I hope not. Implementing politics will always be useless. Either it feels like you're forced to do this or it feels insignificant. And in any case, most important politics usually revolve around economics and for that, CS would have to have a deeper economical system inside. Which is another can of worms at least with my limited imagination since I've read all too much about economics.

She didn't say it. She said that after holidays they will be thinking about new project, not working on it.
What I can tell you is that in Finland we like to have month-long holidays so Colossal Order will be closed for the entirety of July so until then there will be a 100% effort on Skylines and afterwards we’ll figure out what to do with our next project. When we start working on that, we’ll keep you guys in the loop and hopefully it’ll be some really cool simulation.

Could it be the ability for cars/trucks to use more than just one lane on our 6 lane highways?
Maybe tourism will finally become worth the investment?

Really pleased to see that CO are still enjoying the success of Skylines, and how passionate they are about continuing to support the game and modders. On the topic of their next game, I'd love to see a well-thought out and lovingly crafted re-interpretation of some other classic simulation games like Theme Park, Theme Hospital or Zoo Tycoon! ;)

Obviously they'll add a Toyota dealership.

The statement worries me a little because generally if people "haven't seen it coming" then it means they're not that interested in it. Hopefully it won't sideline any more popular features. Or it'll be legitimately interesting and people just haven't thought of it because of some other reason.

Pretty good interview, though a little concerning she really doesn't know anything about video games, basically said as much.
She doesn't have to. She said she didn't have much creative input into the game, she's the CEO. It's potentially more useful to have project management skills than in depth game knowledge for that role. And I'm sure she's learnt some things as CO have made 3 games now.

Last time a dev said that they're adding something nobody saw coming and there isn't any mod for it, the KSP devs added destructible KSC.
On the other hand, when the train fever devs added opening depot doors and main connections they got a bit of backlash because "nobody asked for them" and the latter was a bit of a disaster for gameplay. People felt they had taken away time from more pressing issues to work on stuff that nobody cared about. You can ask simonmd more about that I'm sure.

40 million more women sign up to twitter every year than men
98.5% of the people that play CO games are men

Seems to me not only does she not know video games she does not know her own fan base i.e. chipper!

Seems like we will get "proper sim mode" with the added ability to customize how our cities will work (farming and rural, offices and urban, metropolis with ghettos). /fingers crossed
