are you going to keep things historical?

How do you mean? Fall Weis, Fall Gelb and Barbarossa will be based on its historical timeframe. But with my own battle plans and I will invest a lot in the Kriegsmarine.

This AAR will be my first real playthrough in many months. It's the first time that I am playing a hands on game with Rpm2.

Great!

I advanced a couple of more months. Still playing very slowly as I modded the game a lot, but didn't play much. I am enjoying it.;)

As I want to invest in a strong Kriegsmarine I have indexed my current Naval Strength (summer 1937).

Battlecruisers:

Deutschland-Class: 2

Heavy Cruisers:

Graf Spee-Class: 2
Deutschland-Class: 2

Light Cruisers:

Nürnberg-Class : 1
Leipzig-Class: 1
Königsberg-Class: 3
Emden-Class : 1

Heavy Destroyers:

Type 1934-Class: 1

Escort Destroyer

Type 1923/24-Class: 3

Submarines:

Type VIIA-Class: 2
Type IIB-Class : 3
Type IIA-Class: 1

Not a very impressive amount of ships yet. ;)

A little bit of progress:

P-Class Panzerschiff BC:
I've unlocked the Battlcruiser: P-Class Panzerschiff BC in April 1937, this is a little bit to early. Atleast 1 requirement to unlock this decision will be raised to tech lvl 1939.
But for this game the decision is activated and I am building one;), the ship manufacturing is expected to be finished around spring 1940.
AAR14.jpg

AAR15.jpg

Spring-Summer 1938:

- Anschluss of Austria was executed.
- Treaty of Munich was executed.

The PzKpfw II Ausf C decision was achieved, so my Panzer-Regiment will be updated to the PzKpfw II Ausf C and my new Panzer-regiments will have the PzKpfw II Ausf C as main tank.
AAR16.jpg

AAR17.jpg

Also in june 1938 the PzKpfw IV Ausf decision was achieved, which means I can now start making a new type of Tank Support Battalion. The first model of this tank battalion is the PzKpfw IV Ausf C.

I've placed 3 orders, so I can strengthen my army with 3 new Pz-Abteilungs equiped with the PzKpfw IV Ausf C.
Still the main tank in the Panzer-Regiments is the PzKpfw II AUsf C.

AAR18.jpg

- The end of Czechoslovakia - Czechs annexed - The first Vienna Award was executed.

This also gave the extra benefit of requiring the Czech designed light tank, called by the Germans the PzKpfw 38(t).

AAR19.jpg

I immediatly order 3 battaltions of it (the PzKpfw 38(t) variants are a support tank battalion).

AAR20.jpg

Thus my current tank advancements are:
  • Panzer-Regiment: PzKpfw II Ausf C
  • Leichte Panzer-Abteilung: PzKpfw II Ausf C
  • Leichte Panzer-Abteilung: PzKpfw 38(t) Ausf A (some nations have the possibilty to have two different light tank support battalions).
  • Panzer-Abteilung: PzKpfw IV Ausf C

A couple of weeks before I execute Fall-Weiss, I will make a detailed summary of my Wehrmacht.

Here is the current plan for Fall-Weiss:
With the next update I will provide some text about the battleplan.

Yes and no.;)

In vanilla you have 4 tank brigades (light_armor/armor/heavy_armor/super_heavy_armor)
In RPM2 this is changed.

Light_armor and armor are merged in one brigade. The main_tank_brigade. This brigade includes light and medium tank models. It's a natural/realistic evolution that light tanks are replaced by medium tanks as main tank in its tank regiments.

We as player could do this with the upgrade button. The AI couldn't do this, which was a serious handicap for the AI as it was stuck with obsolete light tank regiments that historically or managed by a player would have been upgraded to medium tanks.

In RPM2 our tank brigade files are divided by strength 30 and strenght 10 tank brigades. The strenght 10 are the support units. For Germany I call the strength 30 units Panzer-regiments and the strenght 10 units Panzer-Abteilungs.

For each nation it's different, but as this AAR is about Germany I will use Germany as an example.

The Panzer-Regiments are the Main Tank brigades. It starts with PzKpfw I Ausf B and it ends with the E-50 'Standardpanzer'. We have designed our tank system that transformation from light to medium tanks goes very fluently. We use decisions to activate our models. This is done for Naval and Tank/TD/AG. Air is in development.

But we don't want to forbid players to build light tank panzer-regiments, so when the main tank regiment transforms from light to medium tanks, a new light tank unit is activated so that the player still can build light tank strenght 30 units if he choses to do so.

Everything will become clear when I progress with my AAR.:) It's in our opinion a simple but effective system.

But the first medium tank model for the Panzer-Regiments will be a PzKpfw III variant.

Small Update:

December 1938:
We have achieved the requirements to build the Bismarck-class battleships, yes! I have ordered construction of 1 Bismarck-class BB, I don't have spare IC for the moment, so this can take a while.

AAR22.jpg

AAR23.jpg

AAR24.jpg

Our engineers have developed the PzKpfw III Ausf E in december 1938.
I have ordered 3 abteilungs to be build!
So this means I have now in production: 3 Pz-Abteilungs PzKpfw IV Ausf C, 3 Pz-Abteilungs PzKpfw 38(t) Ausf A and 3 Pz-Abteilungs PzKpfw III Ausf E. Those battalions will be used to strenghten my 6 Panzer-Divisions.
As a single PzKpfw III Aus E brigade costs 9.81 IC, it's a burden on my IC.

AAR25.jpg

Also I've unlocked the PzKpfw IV Ausf D.
AAR26.jpg

I've noticed a description error. It should be improved engine instead of gun for the PzKpfw IV Ausf D. (will be fixed.)

I agree with the reasoning of slow and steady transition from light tank to medium ones. I also like the bit of info in the description of the decisions. Keep going :)

Small Update:

Late december 1938:
I also unlocked the PzKpfw III Ausf F, this happened in the same month as the PzKpfw III Ausf E. This happened because the PzKpfw III Ausf E and PzKpfw III Ausf F requirements are almost simular. It was been better that I only added the F and not the E, as both variants are very simular, except a small engine improvent.
AAR27.jpg

Anyway it's coded and it is not really a problem.

The PzKpfw III Ausf E activates the brigade type Medium tank battalion. (Pz-Abt. called by me ingame.)
The PzKpfw III Ausf F makes the main tank regiment (Pz-Regiment) switch from light tank to medium tank and upgrades the pz-abteilung to PzKpfw III Ausf F instead of Ausf E.

First I thought that it was to early as it is only december 1938, but than I realized that I still need to build the Pz-Abt. Which currently takes around 220 days. So my first PzKpfw III Ausf E/F would be available mid-late 1939.

A couple days later I activated the PzKpfw III Ausf F model, which allowed my Panzer-Regiments to switch from light tanks (PzKpfw II Ausf C) to medium tanks (PzKpfw III Ausf F). This is maybe a bit to early, as I already have 8 Panzer-Regiments build, so those regiments can be upgraded to PzKpfw III Ausf F, but still you need to invest IC to upgrade and it also takes some time, because lots of techs are upgraded.

The problem for is that I don't have enough IC to build everthing I added in the production que, this is mainly because I am working to a strong kriegsmarine.
AAR28.jpg

As you can see I have no spare IC to allocate for a couple of months to 'upgrades'. I am not concerned, because it's not that I need my Panzer-Regiments to be upgraded to medium tanks yet. I am confident that my light tanks will be good enough against Poland.

March 1939:

I am still investing lots of research and IC for my naval plans.
I've now reached the requirements to unlock the Type IXB-Class Submarines and the M-Class Cruiser. I immediately added a serial production for both. It's a shame that it can take a while as I currently have no free IC.;)

AAR29.jpg

May 1939:
A crucial mistake is made!

I accidently clicked on the decision Danzig or War!
AAR30.jpg

As I was still organizing my troops, positioning my divisions with the border of France/low countries/Poland. The activating of this decision came at a really bad moment. (I could have reload my game, but I didn't want to.;))

So war broke out while I still had empty provinces with the border of France... and my troops at the border of Poland also weren't ready... this in combination with a small standing army is bad.

But I didn't despair as my generals already had made plans for Fall Weiss and most of the divisions needed to execute Fall Weiss were already positioned.
So I ordered my troops to advance!

AAR31.jpg

At the border with France, the situation is a bit more grim...as lots of provinces are undefended or to weakly defended.

AAR32.jpg

AAR33.jpg

And to make things worse, my land army is tiny.;)
AAR34.jpg

France ofcourse uses this to invade!

AAR35.jpg

At the start of this update I was a bit concerned that PzKpfw III Aus F was to easly to unlock and that I would have Panzer-Regiments equiped with PzKpfw III Ausf F in mid 1939. The opposite is true. My Panzer-Regiment are still using PzKpfw II Ausf A as main tank, I thought that my panzers already were upgraded to the PzKpfw II Ausf C. Not!:)
AAR36.jpg

Fall Weiss isn't exactly going as planned. Lucky I have my 5 Panzer-Divisions!

The I. Armeekorps isn't going to reach it's objective and is hit hard by Polish troops. So I needed to give the 5. Panzer-Division a new order. Help the I. Armeekorps!
AAR37.jpg

This is the current situation.

I have 6 Panzer-Divisions. The 6. Panzer-Division is in Berlin and is ordered to stop the French advancement at all cost!

- 2x Pz-Reg. (PzKpfw II Ausf A)
