As Hesse, I royal marry Austria at game start. Less than a month goes by, then the Austria AI decides they want to break the RM. This behavior has consistently happened in about 6 starts today. It's incredibly annoying because either the AI feedback doesn't accurately portray its desire for an RM or changes its mind about the RM far too quickly for its assessment to mean anything.

This behavior pretty much breaks playing the country for me, so I'm going to play previous version till this is fixed.

And yes, the Austria AI definitely broke the RM rather than my leader dying in all 6 playthroughs. it's confirmed by my country opinion malus against Austria for breaking.

That is my issue. They have apparently taken away the computer's free diplo slot for a player. The effect this had was to make smaller nations less enjoyable and more RNG based.

Right, they did ages ago. The more recent change, I believe, was to make the AI care more about being over its relations limit. Point is there is no bug here as far as I can see.

That is not to dismiss or diminish that it affects your enjoyment of the game, but perhaps a post in the Suggestions forum would be more helpful at this point.

I just wonder why the AI is so happy to go over the relations cap in the first month of the game, just to cancel the extras at the beginning of the second month. Seems like speading around unnecessary hate. It seems to hit austria the worst, since everyone wants to be their friend. Then they end up with a bunch of random princes (sometimes electors) that hate them for breaking the royal marriage.

What I don't understand is why Austria would accept the RM request, then not even consider sending its own alliance request. If it prefers to have both alliance and RM, why not give the AI an option to show that?

After doing a few runs for testing, I found that the cause is in version 1.22, Austria is a lot more willing to go over limit on its relations than in 1.21. The core behavior for dropping the RM may be the same, since I didn't see v1.21 Austria go over its relations cap.

Doesnt breaking a RM also drop stab, or is the AI exempt from that? I've had them break a RM with Brandenburg in favor of an alliance with some random non-elector OPM.

Austria loses stab when breaking marriage. Look at this screenshot.

Austria, king of diplomacy right? -3 stab 08/1445 by breaking marriages.
