Is it possible to have your children or main character marry a commoner? I don't know if the game will go into this level of detail, but it seems a nice alternative to be able to wed a pretty farmgirl as opposed to ones hare-lipped cousin.

It shouldn't be easy and less acceptable, this is the Middle Ages not XX Century, marrying someone of no noble blood means to lose all your claims.

Only the game designer can answer your question. From what I have read the emphasis in the game is your family dynasty so marriages must play a decent sized role. Given what we know about the game design there isnt much on marriages yet but if the game is centered around your family dynasty then if you could marry a commoner it should come with a penalty.
What the measurements are for victory I am not quite sure, like most paradox games there is a point system, maybe you could loose points if you went that route?

It could be a nuisance event - Prince of the Blood goes over your head and marries some scrutter, potentially fouling your best laid plans.
Probably, but the children sprung thereof would have what function in game? IIRC William the Conqueror was such a bastard and I'll bet many of his contemporaries were too. I know most danish kings until mid 12th century were of "uncertain maternal descent" so to speak
some of the best leaders in history were bastards, so I'm sure bastards will play a large role

I'm all with you on that marriage is within your ranks, I was just venting my hope that the bastards will be well modelled.
There are many cases in English history for example, of royal marriages into less-than-noble-lineages. Not necessarily commoners, but middle class families that were certainly not noble. In most cases. the girl's family was awarded titles quickly to elevate them, or it was "discovered" that some ancestor was in fact a noble.

True, but the unrecognized ones could still cause you all kind of troubles if supported by your greedy cousins so I hope they will all be in, for that true medieval feeling.

Because they control the bastard and knowing they cannot get the throne they want to be close to the seat of power. Kinda the same thing as with imposters.
