WAR Part 2 (The main front)
The attack into Germany went quite well in the beginning, but after 2 days of unopposed advance the first organized resistance was met at the outskirts of Berlin, leading to serious problems just in front of the finish line.
Fighting:
At 13.00 (14. August) Lt General Hubicki and the crack divisions of Austrias Army met Mj. General Kessel and his Tank V Division in battle - Kessel was able to fight behind the River "Oder", he held his ground until Air General Löhr, commanding 4 CAS Wings, started to bomb the hell out of Kessel's men.
Hubicki continued his thrust into Küstrin, defeating another scattered Division.
During the 16th August the Germans managed to put up a small defence force in Küstrin, stopping Hubickis advance at nightfall. The attack will continue as soon as the 2 other FMAS arrive in Cottbus and are able to lend a hand. Hubickis orders are to dig in and hold Breslau at any cost.
German Divisions arrive in Cottbus and confront the 2 advancing FMAS in battle, mysteriously they arrived in the province right after nightfall, aiding their defensive efforts. Hubickis already exhausted Divisions are immediately called to help, also four squadrons of CAS II, stationed in Vienna, are alerted and ordered to run night bombardment missions. Meanwhile Löhrs 4 CAS Squadrons try to handle the threat of the “German Tank Division” east of Usti – Rumours are around that this “Division” is the platoon sized rest of Kellers unlucky Panther corps.
More horrible news reached the Austrian high command as an unknown number of German armoured Divisions entered Ostrava, endangering the rear of Hubickis Forces. Fortunately 9 Austrian INF Divisions are on their way to Breslau, they got assigned the task to challenge the enemy in Ostrava.
Things are tense in the war with the Reich, the Germans are able to hold their ground even though they are fighting in inferior numbers and on multiple fronts. Every inch forward is bought with blood, during 5 Days of Battle Austria lost 6100 men (6.1 MP) -
more than 4000 soldiers died in the various attempts to cross the Oder. Losses of Austria’s puppets in Italy and Greece weren’t counted.
Air Force:
The Skies over Germany are completely in “Allied” hands, not a single enemy fighter was encountered during the 5 days of campaign. Still it’s a miracle how the Air Forces of the Allies, the Soviets and Austria coordinate their missions, not harming each other – No blue on blue fire was reported till now.
War Heroes:
Lt General Hubicki:
Austria’s famous Panzer Leader, got assigned the difficult task to cross the Spree and keep all German eastern front Divisions from reaching Berlin.
Skill 3 Exp 17, Panzer Leader, Hills Fighter.
Air Genral Löhr:
The advance into Germany wouldn’t be possible without his constant bombing runs.
Skill 4 Exp 28, Tank Buster.
Guess his Veteran Stuka Wings are in urgent need for cool names, feel free to make suggestions.
Race status:
Austria took the lead but is now encountering technical problems on the last curve, the soviets are advancing full speed to keep their chances, while the allies seem to count this championship lost, they only occupy 2 former French provinces.
