I hope the Americans expand from their foothold in France as you conquer more land.

Good luck. :)
I'll say the same!
I vote for a restoration of the old Habsburg Empire, may Austria stretch for Belgium to the Black Sea!

@Duke of Wellington: Faith is my shield

@The_Carboneter, Bluebomberdude and Earth's savior: Thanks!

@General Hannibal: I actually hope that they distract quite a number of german divisions and that their airforce will soften up the enemy positions

@Dollfuß:I haven't researched any naval doctrines or naval vessels.
I captured a Type II destroyer Division from the Jugoslavs and built 3 Transports for the Invasion of Syria. At the moment they are in the safe harbors of turkey.

I'm going to play a little now and try to get an update out ASAP.
This is actually getting more interest than i thought :)

WAR Part 1 (The side fronts)

The attacks started punctually 0500 hours in the morning and everything worked out as planned, it took the Austrian forces only 4 hours to win every single battle that occurred in the very beginning of the campaign.

Operation Sirtaki Dancing:

Early next morning (0800) The Italian Forces in Tirana were cut off and attacked from 3 directions with 9 Divisions. An outdated Swiss TAC I joined in and caused minor org damage on them. Unfortunately this is the only airplane that can be devoted to this operation.

tiranapocketjs7.png

The Italians have 5 Divisions in Tirana 3 INF 1941, 1 CAV IV and an HQ II. As you can notice Austrias Divisions are more modern and have superiour org levels. But due to the Mountains the Italians managed to put up 23 hours of stiff resistance. 0700 the 14 August 1944 the last foxholes got cleared and Tirana was officially free of enemy forces.

4 days later an attack on Edessa was ordered to get an additional axis of attack on the fortified province of Salonika. Just after occupying Edessa the 3 Divisions were brutally forced out again by superior Italian Forces.

edessaretreatzk6.png

(Not on this pic: 3 DIVS entering Tirana from Podgorice, must be TOP SECRET again…)

Nonetheless the attack on Salonika started with 2 aies and 18 Divisions. Victory was achieved after 12 Hours of fighting. Despite their ancient doctrines and outdated Equipment, the Italians are performing quite well. That’s mostly due to the rough Terrain and Forts but I’m little scared since I don’t have a clue how many Italian Divisions are hiding in the Shadows. The offensive into Italy will show how they perform if they can’t use the terrain to their advantage.

Operation Pizza Delivery service:

The Swiss army, reached Genoa after 6 days of walking and 5 hours of fighting against 2 Italian Divsions, one of them actually up to date. Now they’ll just have to stand guard in Genoa, guess they got experience when it comes to guard duty – special thanks to the pope!

The Austrian advance into Venice, wasn’t ever in doubt, at the moment we occupy Ferrera and are moving into Bologna.

An unknown number of enemy forces is holding La Spezia, but their lines will be probed as soon as we reach Bologna. Everything seems to run smoothly.

Operation: French tactics for the Austrian Army:

As planned nothing happens - so no pics and no bad jokes

Side Informations:

The thrust on Bratislava was successful and the soviets occupied Slovakias last VP Province (Kosice) on the 17th of August. Hours later Slovakia got officially annexed. One down, 3 to go!

During my advance and the following separation of bigger groups (9 INF) into smaller elements (3 INF) – to hold larger territory against counter attacks and to be more flexible in advancing – I recognized that I actually ran out of efficient leaders. So some of my Groups are commanded by Skill 1 Lt.Generals with old guard trait – Hopefully they won’t see tough action.

Nice job so far against the Italians. :)

Have the Americans advanced yet?

WAR Part 2 (The main front)

The attack into Germany went quite well in the beginning, but after 2 days of unopposed advance the first organized resistance was met at the outskirts of Berlin, leading to serious problems just in front of the finish line.

Fighting:

At 13.00 (14. August) Lt General Hubicki and the crack divisions of Austrias Army met Mj. General Kessel and his Tank V Division in battle - Kessel was able to fight behind the River "Oder", he held his ground until Air General Löhr, commanding 4 CAS Wings, started to bomb the hell out of Kessel's men.
Hubicki continued his thrust into Küstrin, defeating another scattered Division.

battlekstrinvm5.png

During the 16th August the Germans managed to put up a small defence force in Küstrin, stopping Hubickis advance at nightfall. The attack will continue as soon as the 2 other FMAS arrive in Cottbus and are able to lend a hand. Hubickis orders are to dig in and hold Breslau at any cost.

battlekstrin2gl1.png

German Divisions arrive in Cottbus and confront the 2 advancing FMAS in battle, mysteriously they arrived in the province right after nightfall, aiding their defensive efforts. Hubickis already exhausted Divisions are immediately called to help, also four squadrons of CAS II, stationed in Vienna, are alerted and ordered to run night bombardment missions. Meanwhile Löhrs 4 CAS Squadrons try to handle the threat of the “German Tank Division” east of Usti – Rumours are around that this “Division” is the platoon sized rest of Kellers unlucky Panther corps.

More horrible news reached the Austrian high command as an unknown number of German armoured Divisions entered Ostrava, endangering the rear of Hubickis Forces. Fortunately 9 Austrian INF Divisions are on their way to Breslau, they got assigned the task to challenge the enemy in Ostrava.

counterattackih2.png

Things are tense in the war with the Reich, the Germans are able to hold their ground even though they are fighting in inferior numbers and on multiple fronts. Every inch forward is bought with blood, during 5 Days of Battle Austria lost 6100 men (6.1 MP) -
more than 4000 soldiers died in the various attempts to cross the Oder. Losses of Austria’s puppets in Italy and Greece weren’t counted.

Air Force:

The Skies over Germany are completely in “Allied” hands, not a single enemy fighter was encountered during the 5 days of campaign. Still it’s a miracle how the Air Forces of the Allies, the Soviets and Austria coordinate their missions, not harming each other – No blue on blue fire was reported till now.

War Heroes:

hubickium0.png

Lt General Hubicki:
Austria’s famous Panzer Leader, got assigned the difficult task to cross the Spree and keep all German eastern front Divisions from reaching Berlin.
Skill 3 Exp 17, Panzer Leader, Hills Fighter.

lhryg3.png

Air Genral Löhr:
The advance into Germany wouldn’t be possible without his constant bombing runs.

Skill 4 Exp 28, Tank Buster.

Guess his Veteran Stuka Wings are in urgent need for cool names, feel free to make suggestions.

Race status:

Austria took the lead but is now encountering technical problems on the last curve, the soviets are advancing full speed to keep their chances, while the allies seem to count this championship lost, they only occupy 2 former French provinces.

War Part 3

Fear and Loathing in Berlin:

Around midnight the resistance in Cottbus was broken and in the first hours of daylight 2 FAMS occupied this province (19 August). It was decided that 2nd Corps should try to size Potsdam, the province west of Berlin, while the 3rd Corps should flank the Germans in Küstrin aiding Hubicki’s next attempt to cross the damned Oder.

Good News were reported from Dresden, Keller’s Panthers got completely annihilated by Löhr’s CAS. The unknown Number of enemy tanks in Ostrava turned out to be a single Division, although they were nearly completely organized and at full fighting strength, they were no match for the advancing 9 INF Divisions and massive artillery support.

save16xz4.png

The attack on Küstrin went well until Field Marshall Manstein arrived and night set it in. Once again it was called off, the men should rest for the battle of Berlin. – Hubicki was held back by his officers as he tempted to cross the Oder at midnight with 100 volunteers, shouting strange battlecries.

Potsdam was conquered noon, the 21st August and the 2nd Corps got immediately counter-attacked by an already weakened Panzer V Division. Our brave soldiers managed to repel the counter-attack and we are now in position to Attack Berlin from 2 sides. Meanwhile the Germans are bringing an unknown number of Divisions into central Germany, the Austrian Air Force is constantly bombing various enemy formations there. Additional Infantry from the “Romanian Front” is on its way to reinforce the thin Austrian lines in the center – It will be at least a week till they arrive.

asve19fu7.png

The Finishing line:

We are now ready to attack Berlin with the following forces:
2 TANK
4 CAV
1 HQ

These Forces shall probe the defenders of Berlin and if they seem to be defeatable, the attack will commence until the bitter end. 9 INF Divisions under General Gebauer will arrive in 30 hours to support the attack if the first try fails. But in 30 hours the Germans could repel our Spearheads and/or bring a big defence force to Berlin. Speed is the key in every Race.

Overall situation after 2 weeks of battle:

mapeh8.png

The next days will show decisive victory or honourless defeat in northern Germany.
Further offensive operations in Italy, Greece and western Germany will be carried out, but the whole world watches the Battle for Berlin.

2 MECH I Divisions are ready for deployment – they will operate in Central Germany with heavy air support, as soon as the gain a decent org level.
The conquered Industry slowly adds up to the Austrian War effort, harsh discussions are held in the cabinett how the additional income could be spend best.

The Battle for Berlin:

0500 (22. August) our Spearheads probed Berlin’s defenders, led by Field Marshall von Rundstedt. Berlin was only weakly defended by one Garrision Division and 2 HQ but Rundstedt somehow managed to turn all the paperwork-soldiers into bloodthirsty monsters.

Rundstedt’s traits:
Defensive Doctrine
Offensive Doctrine
Urban Fighter
Encircling Specialist
Ambusher

(since this is a translation hopefully everybody knows what I mean)

The Austrian assault into Berlin lacked proper INF support but General Bayer was sure that his Tanks and Riders would take the city in no time. Thousands of dead Austrians after the first day of fighting proved he was wrong. Even massive bombardments from Löhr’s concentrated Stuka Wings couldn’t soften up the defenders. After 30 hours of bloody battle General Gebauer arrived at the outskirts of the City, he lost no time and ordered his men to take part in the fighting. Their sheer number and ultimate will to relieve their exhausted comrades made the attack unstoppable for the Germans. After a total of 42 hours fighting Berlin was in Austrian hands - unfortunately the soldiers in Potsdam, who took part in the whole fighting, were forced out only hours after Berlin was seized.

One week after the Battle for Berlin ended General Gebauer was ordered to advance into Stralsund and reach the northern sea – thus denying the soviets access to Central Europe. Meanwhile the Air Force was busy destroying German Divisions, they took the credit for 3 TANK and 7 INF Divisions till now. Counter-Attacks on the Austrian lines at Usti and Cottbus were repelled by mobile forces and Austrias armies advance even deeper into the “Reich”.

Operation Sirtaki Dancing:

save29up5.png

Edessa was taken once again by 12 Divisions and held by 6, it didn’t take much fighting to throw out the single Italian Division defending it. But the counter-attack caused Havoc among the Austrians: 11 Divisions attacked from Larissa aided by 4 operating out of Ioannina – all relief attacks by Ottoman/Austrian forces were halted and Edessa lost after 20 hours of fighting. Next time more forces will be send to Edessa - the overall Commander of the Greek front, General Vaugoin, recommended Air support for further operations. 2 Wings of CAS will be sent to his aid.

Operation pizza delivery service:

Things look quite well in Italy, the plan worked out and 1 Italian Division got trapped in Milan, destroying it was no task for the hardened Austrian Divisions. Unfortunately an armoured Division and six INF Divisions managed to escape, but they are still retreating southwards from La Spezia. Since our air-force is concentrated in Germany we won’t be able to destroy them during their retreat.
save31hs0.png

Nonetheless German Divisions endanger the western Flank of our Swiss allies – so it will be necessary to reinforce them. The attack down the boot is in a good position: The Po is crossed and further advances are just a matter of time – though the Italians seem to put up quite a number of Divisions for defence.
