RomeWiki - now open for business!

First of all, I must apologize for dropping the ball on this one. When the subject came up about setting up a wiki for EU:Rome quite a while ago*, it garnered more interest than most other wikis I've been involved in starting. The error I made, was waiting for someone to step up as a kind of "cat herder", i.e. "editor-in-chief", to maintain a birds-eye view of the wiki and work towards integrating the various articles-to-come and organizing the wiki as a whole.

What I have come to realize is that sometimes, such people reveal themselves at the start, or even before starting, but other times, they appear as the wiki starts gaining momentum and someone who is involved in some way realizes that they enjoy both the wiki itself and the wikiwork, and start assuming an administrative role. Only time can tell if and when that happens.

Last week, a new wiki was added to paradoxian.org, AoDWiki, and as I was going through the various stages of setting it up, I realized something needed to be done about RomeWiki. The thing is, however, that since I don't own the game myself, I have little to offer when it comes to content, and the usefulness of the wiki will have to depend on other people than me. I do intend to help out with pure wiki and sysadmin stuff, though

So, what does it mean? It means that the doors are open, long overdue. Any and all who are interested in collecting and presenting relevant information about EU:Rome in a wiki format is welcome to make the wiki all it can be!

Excellent! I had wondered what happened to this idea.

Will start to contribute as soon as this intense period of assessments is over...

Edit: I still vote to call it the Rome Vici, due to the similarity in pronunciation in Classical Latin

Great initiative.
I want to contribute but I'm more a lurker than a writer so i'm not sure how much I can tribute.

Have you any thought about topics / what can be cut'n'pasted from the other wikis / manuals / forums.

If it helps I suggest that it mirrors the game interface.

A skeleton with Icon and overview that will be fleshed out.

Of particular help would be concepts which old-time paradox gamers take for granted..."Badboy" for instance. I was just looking through the Character Traits that Kuhnrat provided and I can see about a zillion more questions that a new Rome gamer could get from reading that...those are all potentially pages for the Rome wiki which *anyone* can put together.

Also keep in mind that the "easiest" way to setup a new page is like this:

When your browser URL says: http://www.paradoxian.org/romewiki/Main_Page

replace the "Main_Page" with the topic you are creating (i.e., Character Traits becomes Character_Traits) and if that is not already taken you'll be directed to a "blank" page.

You'll know its a blank page if it says:

There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, search the related logs, or edit this page.

There will be four tabs at the top "Page / Discussion / Create / Watch"

Choose the "Create" tab and a new page will be made for the wiki and you'll be shown the text editing box to input YOUR new content for that page.

Easy, Peasey, Lemon-squeezy.

So let's get some more content in there folks!


Edit: Also if you think an already created page needs more info or clarification .. choose "EDIT" and get busy!

I know. I just posted it as a start reference on character attributes descriptions.
It's all in a lonesome a stub and will later be fleshed out as a Character trait post.
(Been a bit buzy. Will try and flesh out main description later today.)

Since I'm not used to be a wiki-contributer I welcome any input and explaining on how I'm doing.

It's not really something that gets built and finished...its an ongoing community effort!

Well I don't know how to start it, but did very well on HOI 3 once it was up.

MY PC crashed, but I'm sure I can still find my word document in a thread here.

If I can find time I will see if I can update the wiki.
