I have restarted this game know 25 times. I have tried clearing cache in maps, I have added two patches. I am still having the same issues. When ever it locks up I have to exit, when I log back into the game in starts fine then after maybe 3 mos. it will lock up again. Eventually it will lock up almost immediately when I start trying to press any command on screen. I have searched numerous postings and have not seen anyone with the exact symptoms I am experiencing. There are no error codes it simply says that Rome has quit working. The old saved games I have are wiped out whenever I download another patch. So I am a little hesitant try new patches as they wipe out any progress I have. Any suggestions.

I have the same problem. Sometimes, the game workls fine, without Problems, but mostly it crashes to Desktop in the same time period. I also cleared the cache in maps, it ist not the noculture-thing, ore the Core="Bar". I update the graphic driver monthly, the PC is cleaned. Even reinstalling Windows had no effect. I checked the save-file as good as I could, but I haven't seen any mysterious entrys. I turned off all no needed services and the network, I placed the sound-card in a other slot.
I like this game, but I'm a little bit lustless to try it again. I have the intention to buy a new PC in this year, if the game will crash on the new machine again, it goes to the trash.

I'll add my woes to this thread. I have the same problem. Could it be windows 7?

chrisge and Orpon: Just because you have the same symptoms doesn't mean it's the same root cause. If the /map/cache/ thing didn't work you either have the NoCultureGroup bug or some proiblem unique to your machine, so please open a fresh thread for yourselves, with full problem and system details, as you see me ask for below.
sehcirr1: please check for the NoCultureGroup bug as linked above, if that doesn't help Please run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (first delete everything after the Sound Devices section so it will fit). Also post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista/Win7 and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista/win7 to a non-system directory, like c:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome\, where [name] is your Vista/Win7 user name. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

Well, I just wrote, that I have the same problems, and what I tried, to fix it. Probably it helps sehcirr1, may be not.
I'am now playing computer games since over 25 years, it is not so important as it was in my younger years, that a game is running. I tried some things out, now I'am waiting for the patch 2.3, maybe it works, if not, then maybe on a new PC and if that is not the case, there are other games in the world to play. It's really not a doomsday. Many others are satisfied, it's a good game, if I had bad luck...that can happen.
