When I run the game, starting right away from the loading screens, the game screen is bigger than my monitor screen, i.e., it's all expanded -- instead of the text being "Loading whatever," all I see is "Loadin" and it gets cut off.

The buttons aren't where they're supposed to be once the game loads. I can click on "Options," say, if I move the cursor a few inches to the left of the actual button. It's nothing I can fix by adjusting any monitor settings, and changing the game resolution doesn't work. I'm running XP.

I updated my video driver, and that fixed the screen issue --- and now I can play for about an hour, and then the game crashes. repeatedly. I looked through the other support thread, and didn't have any luck with those suggestions.

Have you applied the 1.3 patch? If not try that.

Also post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista to a non-system directory, like c:\users\[name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

Your game is slow because you have about the slowest video card that will run the game, and only 512mb of system memory. But that shouldn't cause crashes.

Try editing your settings.txt and set

multisampling=0
renderTrees=no

and see if that helps.

You may also be having overheating problems, if it only crashes when you've been playing for a while. Please report your CPU and GPU temperatures from just before you start the game, then after 30 minutes of play. If you have no way of monitoring temperatures, Google for and install SPEEDFAN.
