Rome Gold will not start

I just bought Rome gold i installed it and even re-installed it but i keep getting a message that says:

"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling th application may fix the problem"

I did reinstall however this did not fix the problem and the game still will not start. Can anyone please help with this problem.

Is this a downloaded version? If so the download is probably bad. I would uninstall the game and delete the game directories, and the download file. Then down load it afresh, and try that. If it's from Steam, you can use the option they have to verify the downloaded files too.

actually it is a cd version i bought from wal-mart. I actually went and traded the copy i had for a new one but im still having the same problem. if anyone can think of what i need to do it would be very much apprechiated.

Please run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (first delete everything after the Sound Devices section so it will fit). Also post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista to a non-system directory, like c:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome\, where [name] is your Vista user name. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

Please get an unpdated video driver from nVidia http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us , not sure if your machien is a notebook or not so just choose the appropriate options in that page.

Also edit settings.txt and set refreshRate=60 and multisampling=0 . Then delete the contents of your rome/map/cache folder, and try the game again. If that doesn't help please post your system.log file too, thx.

i cannot get an updated driver from nvidia, i have a notebook and they said they do not have the update. I havent been able to get ahold of hypersonic to find an update. also i tryed changing settings.txt and deleting the other folder. Did not work , also i cannot find a log file to show you.

Under your Rome directory is a sub-directory called Logs, the system.log (or maybe it's system.txt, I forget) is in there. May as well post the error.log too .
