I can get to the menu screen and select single player. When I select a province and hit play, it constantly crashes.

I could only install patch 2.2 by changing version in registry from 2.1 to 2.0.

Running Vista Home Basic. Two year old Dell 1gig memory.

Something's probably gone wrong with the patch install. First move any valued save games elsewhere. First move any valued save games elsewhere. Then uninstall the game, and then manually delete the game directory - this is important. Reinstall Rome:Gold - choose a new directory like c:\games\rome instead of the suggested path. Download a fresh copy of the 2.2 patch, it will not have the installation problem this time. Then apply the 2.2 patch over Rome - make 100% sure you point it to the same directory you installed Rome itself into.
