The design is cool, not the fact that it is communist.

It is bit similar how USSR's national anthem was great too.

Having a geometric figure that was important to one ideology (the cross for a Lutheran monarchy) transform into a figure important to another ideology (the star-shape for a communist state) is quite cool. In addition to that the flags stay very recognizable, even though they're total fantasy. What's not to like?
