1935
King Carol II of the Kingdom of Romania had been overseas when he was given a strange gift. A large truck with books and techincal readouts for equipment that was more advanced than anything his generals had ever seen. The king was particularly interested in the books talking about his future moves in regard to the territorial concessions. King Carol II locked himself in his private room when he got back to his residance in Burchest.
He emerged as called his closet advisors and showed them the contents of the gift and the mysterious machines the senders had called the salvation of Romania. Machines that could increase the efficency of the factories and machines that could produce all the resources that Romania would ever need. The council was shocked when the king was able to prove to them the authencity of the gift by showing how they had recorded events that had happened over the last few days.
King Carol II was quick to act. He gathered the loyal army commanders and had them first arrest the Iron Guard members and leadership. Then a few months later banned the Communist party and deported the members to other countries. The surviving Iron Guard members escaped to Germany where they plotted to return with Nazi assitance.
King Carol II shocked the west when he seized complete power and dismantled all vestiages of democracy. He would rule as as a parental autocrat. Thousands of pro-democratic leaders were arrested and or deported. Despite these acts, he was able to win limited favor with the west and many companies sent their experts to help modernise the country's industry. By the end of 1935, Romania was a country that was the Balkans powerhouse and even caused the Soviet Union to deal with them with respect.
King Carol II now could look to his country's safety through the military. He then set his national review council with his ministers for the month of January 1936. As a result of the meeting, the Balkans would be thurst into a Third Balkans war and see the world go up in flames.
