How do you get the Roman Kingdom? I’ve seen people on Reddit say that AI Rome changes to Kingdom after becoming the subject of Etruria, but I don’t know if this is true or if it works if playing as Rome.

I saw it happen once while playing Mosylon. Etruria clearly beat Rome and forced them into vassalage. There was even a weird pop-up about the restoration despite my being in Somalia at the time.

I don't know if this would happen if you were playing Rome, but maybe. I mean, being a vassal doesn't end the game, right? Would AI Etruria accept a surrender to make you a kingdom?

I guess this can be experimented quickly.

So if AI is vassalised it changes government? Cool. Maybe I’ll just play as Ertruria with Debug Mode, switch tags to Rome, and then Crush Ertruria

So, some semi-quick work and I'm a client state of Etruria. I am not a Kingdom.

But, yes, when both Etruria and Rome were AI run Rome definitely became Kingdom of Rome with a big event about it and all.

I saw that recently in one of my observer campaigns. The Roman government was dictatorship at the time so that may have something to do with it, but I'm not 100% sure about it. They were also huge, so definitely they weren't the subject of any other faction.

To me It's frankly a strange idea to call it "Roman Kingdom". I know Rome was a monarchy in its infancy, but in the game's timeperiod the concept of monarchy was already a very distant and hostile one for them.

There is an event programmed in the game in which Rome turns into a kingdom again if it is conquered by the Etruscans. Rome can then either accept becoming a kingdom and accept a descendant of the Etruscan kings, which also means that Rome becomes a vassal of Etruria, or Rome can refuse to accept a king and then changes its name to "little Rome - or pitiful Rome" if I understand the translation of the name correctly.
