I was kind of disappointed the Roman Empire was not in-game. I would make sense for it to be able to be formed by Byzantium, or possibly some other Roman Successor state. The files are there, I see they have their own EU4 based ideas too. It would be great if they exist.

And Lee Saxon, as I said. You literally can't form the Roman Empire, because it is already in the game. That would be a kin to England forming England, or Germany forming Germany, or heck, even the USA forming the USA.

And your example if kind of flawed. Great Britain is the union between Scotland, Wales, and England. You can also count Ireland in that I guess.

But calling himself romans and beeing accepted as romans make them actually romans.

The nation in the game should be already named Rome. The Empire in CK2 too.

Martin, more realistically you would rename the Byzantium Empire to the Roman Empire, since even Eastern Roman Empire was a term which they only began to use after it fell.

Ofcourse, there was also cultural difference - as ERE was Greek, WRE was latin. That's a pretty big difference as well.

If we rename byzantium into the roman empire then at the very least we could add a decision to restore latin as the official language with maybe a tech bonus or something,after all if everyone speaks latin it opens them up to all the literature of the western world and that has to give some research results.

Italy is already the neo-Roman Empire given its ideas, and Byzantium is not going to change its Greek heritage to become the Latinized Roman Empire. Besides, Roman culture was long gone by the time of the game. It would be like Ming reestablishing the Tang Dynasty.

It is actually possible to form Byzantium if it gets eliminated. Maybe the game should call it "Rome" or "ERE". The more modern terminology feels a little off-kilter and it would probably stop threads like this cropping up .

Yah...the HRE, Russians, and Ottomans were weird. Heck, the Russian Empire and Ottoman Empire atleast had semi-valid reasons. The Russians had married someone from the Roman royal family, and the Ottoman's conquered the Romans and took Nova Roma. Seriously thou,for me personally rome died when it stopped being the ancient borg assimilating everything it touched,the byzantines were to stuck up with their greek to do it,the ottomans didnt even bother because tax extortion of infidels was so lucrative and the russians consistently failed to assimilate anything without using sheer demographics.
