I know, his existence in 1066 is historical. However, anything he did after that in history probably should not be included as events, given that the game design is to let the player and the AI determine what the historical characters do....

Just play Castile and use him to conquer Valencia. That way you even get to keep it (and cut off those pesky Aragonese from claiming too much of Spain ).
