Interesting plan though. Maybe take the Balkans and box Germany in, forcing them to fight Soviets and British. But they might not like that

As the U.S., I will see how far Britain and U.S.S.R. get without American help, and then see if U.S. can beat off Germany and Japan without their help. I wonder what would happen if the U.S. joined the Axis. Scarry.

I do not plan on playing as France till I've been almost everyone else, but I would think that France should attack Germany first. Maybe that will get Britain and some other countries to take action. Of course, I'm not sure about France's attacking capabilities vs. Germany's defensive capability that early on.

I will pretty much do what Germany did, but not invade Russia until I link up wit Japan, and also supply the Afrika Korps. I will also build up a better navy with aircraft carriers so I can launch air raids in unison with invasions of Britain. The last thing: don't let Hitler run the military.

Oh, and also eleminate Montgomery, Patton, etc. right when they show up.

After acquiring Austria and Czechoslovakia Germany launches all out attack on the Balkan states, annexations and installations of puppet regimes follows.

2. May 4th 1939:

Germany attacks Poland and divides it up with Russia. Britain and France declare war.

3. June 3rd 1939:

Norway already over-ran, Guderian and Rommel attack trough the Ardennes and split the French and British forces in half.

4 September 6th 1939:

France over-ran, British forces off the continent, only naval forces pose a threat.

5 February 7th 1939:


Convoys from Italy start transporting Rommel's Africa Corps across the Med, Attacks the Suez immediately. British ties with India cut, Britain abandons the Med.

January 5th 1940:


Germany starts campaigning across the middle east, Iraq, and Persian over-run, Threatening the Russians in the Caucasus.


That's my plan for the game in its opening years, hopefully it works out.

Playin as France will be the easiest game, it is the Germans you should pity.
After all their succes against the French, the Poles and the Russian was mainly due to surprise.
Hell, all the French had to do to win WW2 was to keep their military deployment the way it was in 1939. Then the german army would have blundered into 2 armored divisions instead of 2 cavalry divisions.

The only possible way I can see Germany winning is if it builds 10x faster than everyone else, unleashes a blitz onto all its enemies at the same time and forces them to surrender as soon as possible. A long-protracted conflict of any sort will defeat Germany.

Uhm, why ? There is nothing in Siberia. The Japanese had a hard time supplying places where they had naval supriority, what are they going to do in the 100's of km of empty Siberia ?

Russia has just lost a war to Japan and have a large segement of its past troops station in Asia.

Correction, Russia has just won a war against Japan. The Japanese army proved totaly worthless.

Beside Stalin's purges and harsh treatment of the peasants, this was the main reason Germany had such an easy go in the early years of the war.

Yes..and the fact that Stalin was dumb enough to demolish his old defense lines and not build up new ones.

you sort of answered your own question.
"The right provinces" are none other than those Russia, France, and Great Britain own at game start. Oh yeah I forgot to add the USA provences in to that list aswell

Up till 8 you're golden. I think you'll be running into difficulties around 9

About Stalin`s purges... Mmm... Yes, it was a bit foolish thing, BUT there are two things to say...
1 - Not all of killed generals were so genius, as we think, and at least 1/4 of them were not army officers, but OGPU/KGB`s
2 - For many of them it was some revenge - today, Toukchatchevsky woud be sentensed by Hague court for his warcrimes

Surely the best strategy for Italy has to be to smile nicely at everyone and keep making the pasta. They barely coped with the might of Albania and got whalloped by Greece, for goodness sake. North Africa? Oops.

At least that way they wouldn't have to keep unfurling the battle flag (you know, the one with the white cross on a white background )
