This has kinda annoyed me too. I can understand if the two clans have exchanged hostages and thus have a non-aggression pact, or maybe even if they had good relations via marriages and such. But there's currently no restrictions or penalties for marching your army through anyone's lands.

I guess another solution would be to add a temporary relations penalty to whomever's realm was violated, but that would likely take a good deal extra AI programming to get it to recognize that and consider it in decisons. So just a simple blocked movement would be a good addition, along with an extra diplo option for army movement agreement or having it attached to certain tags like primary/seconday marriage, hostage exchange, etc. Yet, one problem remains and I suspect it's the reason you can currently wander wherever with no worries.. there's no sea movement.. and that is a notable restriction on army movement as-is.

these guys would be constantly fighting, no way they would allow that kind of movement without some political approval, and im sure that would be rare, these armies roam all over the map...

You want to stop them, declare war and attack them.

Pretty appropriate for the period I think, after all the 'political approval' would come from the shogun, and the Akisama can't really stop you, can they?

It's different, I like it. I don't want it to be like every other game.

And we can do it too!

Thing is that defending against much larger enemy than you is pretty hard. Compared to other PI games in this one executing more complex strategies using attrition/encircling/counter attacks etc. is way much less important than using mass assault. So it is now pretty straightforward more provinces = more troops = win. Too bad if rival clans has 50% more troops than you...Also noticed that making peace as a losing side is next to impossible.

Though this game is not about the war, but still I personally hate when AI goes through MY land and aims to attack My Friend next to me. Lame, please fix this.

Open Borders agreement or no trespass:angry:!

I think the thing to keep in mind, is in sengoku, War is #1. Honorable diplomacy is #2. This is an inverse of EU3, where Diplomacy is #1, "honorable" war is #2.

Sure but the honour system really makes it hard to play the way you should. Given this was a time of -war-, the matter of honour and killing yourself cause you hit 0 was -really- secondary.

Surely?

Not to the Bushi. Honour was everything and war just a way of maintaining/increasing it. Becoming Shogun was an honourable goal, but anyone was vulnerable if they transgressed against the code too egregiously. Their honourable troops would stop fighting for him, or even take their own lives in "protest sepukku". Equals would stop even pretending to trust such a pariah, and it was only a matter of time til someone beat him and ruined his family as well. Suicide could go some way to atoning for previous bad conduct and avert some of the disaster that might otherwise befall your family. But it was all about appearances. If you never got spotted being a sneaky snidey Ninja-user, or you did enough honourable things, you could maintain the pretense that you're a perfect Daimyo, and the Honour score in the game seems to me to be a decent metric of how the social status worked in the period.

Well.. that would be another way to penalize entering other clan's territory unannounced. With an Honor loss. Or a diplomatic "request" that costs Honor like most of the others.

But again, the AI would need to be updated on all this too, so there'd be some amount of work to it.

A border system such as that seen in EU3 would be far too heavy handed for this period, and simply not realistic, however the constant trespassing is also distant from reality. I think that Nefaro's suggestion would work quite well, trespassing without notification to the liege of those lands would cost your relations over time, and possibly an initial honour hit. You would be able make a liege aware that you intend to move across his lands and ask for permission, I think there should be a system by which as your relation with the liege increases, the honour cost of the action decreases. Furthermore you would also be able to directly deal with relevant daimyos, and only gain their permission, most likely at a lower cost, but greater movement restrictions.

However the most important point, which Nefaro makes, is that it would probably be impossibly to convince the AI to allow you to do anything. Maybe something like this should be implemented when the AI has been tweaked for a more diplomatic and rational approach to the game, but until then it will end up being a non-functioning feature.
