I really would like to see my question answerded. Because in SC4 I always saw the zoned skyscrapers as some sort of reward for my well organized city or city district (what reflected a very high land value in these zones). These rewards aka representation of very high land values would be taken off with ploppables skyscrapers... and I have to admit that I don't like the idea. I wonder if you have a good explanation for ploppable skyscrapers.
I agree. It's a good feeling in SC4 when you get your first skyscraper. I don't really want to have to plop any buildings that belong in a zone. Hopefully this next Dev Diary on Zoning will put our concerns at rest.

One thing I would like to see CO do that I haven't seen in cities in motion 1 or 2 is a north american style crescent road. Either in a oval or round shape with or without a boulevard in the middle styles to choose from. This peace of road really makes the end of a street look great in a new suburb with houses rapped around it. For ideas just go on Google earth to check out how the crescents are created in America and Canada thanks!
It would also look more realistic at the end street if the street wasn't so rounded off but squared off either with a curb grass dirt or gravel too boot. You can create an ending street icon for all types of streets with curb grass dirt gavel etc..
I also hope you bring back the parking lot like in cities in motion 1 for shopping malls stadiums hospitals etc. It's a good way to collect taxes .

4x4 grid is plenty of room for high buildings...

Haven't anyone been to Japan where they fit four ten floor buildings into a 1x1 grid? :D

To be fair, a lot of large skyscraper projects in real life are "ploppables". They're not all developed by private interests.

UK is so demanding ;)

Even though I find driving on the left a bit silly (and old fashioned), I remember not buying the London DLC for CiM because it didn't support left hand traffic. And I also asked whether it was possible in CiM2. I was very pleased to see it in this game.

The main householder should be taxed by what kind of street they live on. The level of infrastructure that is given to you as a householder is what you pay monthly. From a cheap dirt or gravel road that has nothing but storm drainage on each side of the road .To a fully functional road that houses an infrastructure like sewage, plumbing, electrical , gas , cable . Above ground fire hydrant access, curbs ,sidewalks and trees on the boulevard . Every time something new is added to the roadway it goes up in value with taxes. The bigger the road and sidewalk etc . the more taxes the land owner must pay. This makes the game more interesting . You can't create a multi lane street which tax payers can't afford to maintain and keep until more founds are created when the population expands.

Hi! The maximum size of the zoned building is 4x4 with much variation starting from small 1x1 houses. The bigger buildings are under player's control and those exceed the 4x4 slot (like most of the skyscrapers). How about we write the next dev diary about the zoning? I'll have game designer Henkka (co_fiirdraak) answer your questions then!

Oh okey! Cool. So most skyscrapers are player placeable? But can we expect smaller skyscrapers to be zoned buildings? Will there be larger buildings for all the different zones?

Smaller ones yes! The ones that fit nicely on the 4x4 grid

I can work with this, to be honest. As long as there will be other skyscrapers that are zonable, then it should work fine.

In a way, this is kind of true in most major cities, in which there are laws against building very large skyscrapers unless the city says otherwise. The reason is so the skyline won't be altered too much.

Maybe the ploppable, larger skyscrapers can work like the buildings in the rewards system in SimCity 4. They will be unlocked if certain demands are met. For example, if your city has very good outer connections, an appropriate education level and high land value, a CEO of a company will ask you for permission to build a headquarters in your city. The headquarters will be a very large skyscraper that would easily define your city. You can choose to accept or decline the request. If you accept the request and build the headquarters, you will receive a large monthly income, along with more employment opportunities for your citizens.

This way, you will have more control of the appearance of your city without it changing too much not to your liking. As your population build skyscrapers on their own, you build even bigger skyscrapers to shape the skyline to your liking! ^_^

Yeah, I actually agree with you. If the smaller skyscrapers are zoned, than I'm happy.

It's some the form of compromise. I think you have to respect that and get used to. It is a completely different the form of building, quite innovative. I like this idea.
