Why is impossible to cross, with a ground metro, a road? When you build a line in the coutryside (for example in Helsinki) it's a little boring to have to elevate the rail for a single road in the middle of nothing..
Is there maybe a mod that adds it?

well, metros usually go on closed tracks, so it's not that illogical...and you can just make the whole metro elevated and then roads don't matter. ;)

That is both not realistic and not practical.
In my town, the overground part of our metro does have level crossing so its not that far fetched, especially when level crossings for train tracks already exist.

In the beta of the game, or even in the first version of the final game (if I am not mistaken), it was possible to make such a crossing. Afterwards, they removed the option with a patch, because this crossing caused a problem with making a line over the tracks.

it was possible from a construction point of view, but you cought not make any lines passing it
i actualy thought they whould fix it, but they removed it...
whould like to see it reimplemented and fixed though, as ground lightrail is hard enough to build as it is...

I really like the ground metro, im not really a fan of the elevated parts as theyre ugly and dont usually fit in in suburbs and villages so try not to use them. But the fact that ground levels cant cross roads makes them, along with other factors such as the lack of diagonol stations, incredibly difficult to use. I too would really appreciate them being fixed and reimplemented!

I think that underground is for city center, elevated for the suburbia full of ugly and old buildings and the groud level for villages and coutryside by the cities.. But in fact, I have to build elevated rails also in the countryside maybe for a single road..

Maybe you already know, but you can also build ground metro and use only 3 blocs of elevated track to cross the road.

Just to be clear, that's the link to the picture I'm talking about.

See, look at that. That is the PERFECT place to have a crossing. there is literally ONE car in this entire picture, and you're in the middle of nowhere. Why WOULDN'T you want a crossing? No offense, but to be honest, I think it's kinda stupid that you have to have elevated track there. Unless you have that road clogged up with buses, which I doubt you ever will, I just feel like it's best just to put a crossing there.

PS: I seriously DON'T recommend putting a metro there, by the way. Just create a bus line, and have a stop at the farm, and then one by the nearest metro station. It's sometimes referred to as "line feeding". It's a great strategy. They'll get on the bus, and then transfer to the train. Plus, they pay for both rides!

You might be right, but if we look at the real world for a moment, my example would be the Israel Railway company. Their current goal is to have no railway crossing. In recent years no railway crossings were built, even in the most rural places. When the Be'er-Sheva line was upgraded, several bridges were built in places where the only crossing would be a few agriculture vehicles.

No, but then the metro line was most probably running through an open trench, with roads crossing it on top at ground level, an option not available in Cities in Motion.

The most reasonable alternative from the game's point of view would be to allow and reimplement level road crossings.

Nah, ground level metro is for suburbia, underground and elevated lines are for the city center. Designing elevated lines across nothing but countryside would be costly and above all completely unnecessary.

Wikipedia: "A rapid transit, underground, subway, elevated railway, metro or metropolitan railway system is an electric passenger railway in an urban area with a high capacity and frequency, and grade separation from other traffic."

And also @speedking34: I looked at the "metro" system where you live and it is apparently "... a light rail system in North East England ..."
Light Rail is not the same thing as a metro...

Also, if you go to any metro system like in London, New York, Tokyo, or even where I live, Stockholm, I highly doubt you'll be able to find a single level crossing...

Agreed, a metro in general should not feature level crossings (even if it certainly could, considered that even actual railroads do). In fact, that's the whole point with an urban rapid transit system. However, the game has already by design forfeited the option of placing rails or roads in cuts or on embankments to allow unhindered crossings. In order to avoid weird looking bridges outside of cities where you want your metro line on ground level, I see no other choice than to allow level road crossings.

To be honest with you, I've also had that little problem with crossing roads with metro tracks... I think it simply looks and feels more realistic to have the metro on ground level outside the suburbs on fields for example, but I can't because at the same time you'll always come across roads and railway tracks every now and then. It's a bit hard to explain but it would be good if you, like in real life I guess, could sort of build metro tracks over roads but on ground level at the same time by automatically making a tunnel for the road, with or without a roof.
And also, just to mention, in Stockholm, there are quite a lot of parts where the metro runs above ground on bridges and viaducts in the suburbs so I guess that might not be too wrong after all, at least for me, since I'm a bit used to it. :)
