Dear expansion devs,

Roads. How are they represented in EU3? There were province events concerning roads in EU3 prior to HTTT, but in this last expansion 'Expand road network' was added as a prominent province decision (and rather demanding in terms of micromanagement, as you are well aware). The earlier events however, were not removed.

While you could argue that the text accompanying the event 'Road Constructions' is merely flavor, and that a similarly themed province decision does not somehow invalidate a nice base-tax increasing event, I am of a different opinion.

I think this is sloppy and inconsistent design. Adding new features is great and all, but it is a mark of true craftsmanship to mesh them in neatly with what is already there. Similar situations exist with event texts mentioning or affecting heirs, dynasties or regencies while the actual representations of them are unchanged.

With the development of the upcoming expansion again in new hands (Doomdark and Brother Bean were mostly responsible for HTTT if I understood correctly, Besuchov and Birken seem to be most involved with Divine Wind) I hope that they will pay a little more consideration to issues like these. Daimyos and dynasties, shogun's authority and legitimacy, and all the other neat features you're working on: please make sure that you're not inadvertantly crossing into terrain that's already covered. Or if you do, change or remove the old event or whatever if it no longer makes sense.

I realise that going over hundreds or thousands of events and decisions is a lot of work, but I think it is the kind of polish that would really please many long-time EU3 players.

Yours,
Junuxx

There's another thing about road implementation that bothers me.

P-x forgotten that I can play at any start date. So my Rev. France has no post offices, no monuments... And no roads. So it looks ridiculous. I understand it's hard to insert all this province stuff for every date, but it could be generated like armies size.

Just more reason to go back to scenarios only, which PI seems to do for all new games.

well , any start date can be nice if a country does not exist at one point , and the next scenario is decades later ...

Maybe a one-size fits all criteria for certain tech levels and dates? So if a country has a tech level at a given start date they automatically start with roads in all provinces, and another level/date for post-offices?

I know this isn't exactly accurate or a perfect system but it'd be better thatn having a huge empire with no infrastructure!

call me late to the thread, but I gotta agree. road construction was really hard to keep track of, I almost wanted a map overlay of which provinces had them and which didn't....now come to thionk of it, an infrastructure map might be hard to pull off, but seems to me might be seriously usefull: seeing at a glance what has level 1 forst that need to be upgraded without having to go through the ledger (as on larger empires, I can't find every province, and having to search for them seems unnessisary....)

I also feel like roads should increase the speed at which armies travel from one province to another. or you could get an option to travel off roads and attack an army traveling and get a serious shock bonus, etc. likely asking for too much here though, this may be more like a eu4 kinda request.... regardless, it would deffinitly do a good job at giving something a more original feel too it, and not just be a "well this seems like a nice bonus for this one province" kinda button. civ V very recently redid roads to avoid players spamming them in every tile they can by incuring a simple upkeep cost on them....seems like a wise thing to do. having roads seems valuable in north scandinavia, but should also be harder to build, harder to maintain, and generally see less use, should they not?
