Random mission, the old mechwarriors, badly maintained, etc. I see a firestarter, not a problem, I have 4 heavy. I move to kill, Atlas shows up. That's it, Atlas and Firestarter. I happened to take max salvage since I'm sitting on 6 55 tonners in storage (thats about 3mil) and just shy of 10 mil in cash. I knock the Atlas over on the first round, nothing but called headshots after that, connected. Boom, 3 pieces of salvage, have an Atlas now. First Assault mech I've seen in game.

And here I am with called shot mastery on 3 out of 4 of my pilots, and have yet to hit a called head-shot. I'll just be over here crying in the corner... :'(

RNG is kinda funny, went on a 3 skull mission, base assault, expecting trouble. Ended up against 4x light and 3x medium mechs + 4 turrets. Separated into 3 self contained fights. It was probably easier than some 2 skull ones I did. Too bad I went in with 4/12 salvage

Also, got my first heavy by pure chance, was getting swarmed so I wanted him off the field NOW, called CT, ended up headshotting him, welcome Orion! :D

Yeah, definitely some wild swings. Took that Atlas on a few missions, on one it went head to head with a Shadowhawk. Shadowhawk died, of course, but not before it completely shredded the Atlas, remove almost all front facing armor, had to back it away from the fight. First mission with the Atlas, one those fight 2 lance missions, I let the Atlas deal with one lance by itself while my other 3 dealt with the other lance. Atlas destroyed that lance with no significant damage.

It's all good though, without the randomness you fall into that chess like gaming, which is not that much fun for me anymore. It has it's place, but without random, totally deterministic.

Last time I took that mission I found a Jegermech and three Thunderbolts all in remarkably good condition for being "badly" maintained. I only had one heavy, a Dragon and three meds. That was a fight, but I manage to salve one Thunderbolt out of the mess.

First random assassinate mission after getting the mission reward Highlander 733B.

100T mech is the target, but not in sight

Plan - Sensor lock, Target a leg knock it over. Let it get up. Destroy leg. Target side torsos to knock it over easier after leg gone. Keep knocking over avoiding destroying any other part.

What happened - Sensor lock, Atlas found. 2 High spirits mech warriors called shots on left leg, ok damage and unsteady it. Highlander 733B LRM+Gauss called shot left leg useing remainder of moral. Cockpit destroyed lethal damage.
