Hello guys,
I'm playing ming (china) and I'm waiting for Japan to be more weak, when few daimyos are left and Japan nearly united. In fact when there are more daimyos and if they unite their forces they are more dangerous than few bigger ones. However I must attack before I loose my rivalry to Ashikaga so I can get the advantages of attacking a rival, so here is my question : Is there a time limit for rivalry before a country is no longer considered as a valid rival, or does it depend on some value like the development score and the difference between the two countries ?

Rivalry is in fact mostly about your max manpower/forcelimit. Afterwards it's about tech difference. That's why quanitity is a two edged sword.

It allows you to kinda scare coalitions which otherwise would screw you hard to never form but at the same time it allows powers way beyond your actual powerlvl to rival you.

Just an example, even if you're ~3+ tech lvls ahead of russia they can still rival you if you didn't go for quantity/have no national ideas which increases your force limit, because of their huge force limit.

In terms of japan it's another thing. It's only a valid rival beause of all their vasalls. If japans vasalls are gone and it's united it's no longer a valid rival for ming.
