The way it works now, there are no downsides really for accepting a call of arms.
Big improvement in relations with the ally and extra prestige for fighting battles. Then it makes no difference if you win or lose.

Its very easy to exploit this, marry a daughter to the HRE for example, making sure it includes an alliance. Then just attack some random muslims and call your ally.Reuniting Spain this way is quite easy, the germans will do it for you! So what happens when THEY ask for your help? Yo dont want to lose 100 prestige, your alliance nor your friendship so just accept...but dont do anything. They win? great, everybody happy, they lose? too bad, you didnt even raised levies, and the guy is just happy because you SAID you were going to help him.

So, i would add for example prestige or economic loss (or win) to allies involved in wars. That way I would think twice before comitting to a war I know we will lose.

Just some thoughts.

The only real downside is you can end up in a very long at-war state which can have effects on some of the actions you might want to do.

Then again, while you can choose to be useless to your allies in their wars, they can choose to be useless right back in yours.

But do they? from my experience, as long as they are not at war, they will try send you a good amount of troops, even if they are very far.

I was under the impression that the alliance warscore system meant you shared in the prestige and monetary costs of losing as well as sharing in the rewards of winning. Is that only the case for winning Crusades?
