I've been mulling over in my head how to make an event that would accurately represent Pearl Harbor, actually destroying and damaging ships rather than altering surprise and such. I've come to the conclusion that the easiest way to do this is the easiest one to avoid, i.e. damaging whatever ships the ai or player has in port in oahu. but i think a more complicated approach might actually be better...

It would involve expanding on the string of events surrounding prewar US-Japanese relations, like the Rape of Nanking and things like that. Essentially, as tensions rise, the US player would be given the option to deploy more troops and ships to the pacific, or face some kind of policy penalty, i.e. more towards isolationism or dove.

if you deploy the troops, you'll have to keep them there. this could be enforced by events triggered by the absence of troops or ships in these areas, creating dissent or triggering something to make japan more aggressive. Hopefully, if the events are scripted right, certain ships like the arizona will be in pearl harbor when that event fires, allowing for the destruction or damaging of the vessels. Also, on the Japanese side, there should be training options, takin up money and resources, but ultimately reaping greater results from teh Pearl harbor raid, and greater efficiency to certain missions for a certain amount of time.

so before i get buried in this, anyone have any sage wisdom? i'm sure i'm not the first person to try this, so where will i run into snags? also anyone willing to help would be most welcome.
