Sir Andrew, nope, i have had to resort to savegame edits. Seriously though, why are the Iroquois made almost impossible to play? Even the Aztecs/Incas can upgrade forts. And they are pagan tech tree. So why not the Iroquois? I think, honestly, no one though of them. Tell me though, does my editing of the save game(most notably to get the forts) take much away from the AAR? Because, as they are designed, it is like they are not meant to be played. Maybe, for a hands-off game, but even then, not really. I think there is an inherent bug with it(in fact, if i can post my screenshot, you can see what i mean. It says that i can upgrade fort, but do not have 101d needed. And, if i get the 101d to upgrade, cannot upgrade any further.)

Oh well, I think, if this AAR is well recieved, I will try a go at the Aztecs next, maybe beat back those dang Spanish.
I will continue with the AAR proper tomorrow, and since i have Thursday off, will try to get at least to 1600 by Thursday evening. Then i can start worrying about France and England(especially England, as i am almost certain they are either in Belle Isle, or the province next to them)

Oh, and I fear that Spain has annexed the Aztecs already. The Spanish vps were 120 more than me, mostly due to combat and economic. Somehow, i have -4 for combat :D
Oh well, till tomorrow then, when Huron will surely reach Aztec lands :D

Your AAR seems to be going very well, the Iroquois have quite an empire going.

I have always wanted to try one of the American nations, and end up invading Europe.

I can see it now...On the coast of England...

"Sir! The Haudenosaunee Armada is just off our coast!"
--"Armada? what Armada? I don't see any tall masts on the horizon."
"No Sir there are no big ships. They all paddeled their canoes over from the New World"
--"We're in trouble"

:D And imagine the look on the English faces, as a 20k strong army lands in Calais, and takes it. What the French were unable to do with over 250k men, the Haudenosaunee do with a 10th of that :D But first, i need to get an explorer. And the ability to make transports(i think i will be naval tech 2 by 1550).
I only hope that at least 2 Aztec cities are left, that they haven't been completely annexed. I needs dat gold :D

Don't forget about the Incas :).

Rise of the Haudenosaunee(continued)

1509-

Nov 23: Huron grows impatient, moving westward. He has no time for deliberations. His men grow anxious at the delays. He heads west from Mobile. Let the other war party catch up.

1510-

Jan 29: The two War parties meet in Biloxi, and are gladdened to so so. They join up. Westward, ever westward

April 29: Bayou? A strange name for a province. But Huron is driven. His predecseeor managed to nearly double the size of the Confederacy. This incarnation will do likewise.

July 8: Matagorda? What strange names, these new lands have. A settler is sent, in the hopes of claiming this land for the Confederacy. It will act as a great waypoint between the old lands, and, hopefully, the new ones

Aug 27: Attack in Rio Grande. The natives there, obviously unaware of the kindness of the Confederacy set upon Huron from several sides. But Huron, ever the competent general, fights them off. Onward.

Oct 1: Success in Matagorda. It is decided that this new land will be built up enough to fend for itself, as it is so far from Mohawk.

Nov 24-29: Hostile beginnings: A rude introduction to the Spanish.

Nov 29: Who are these strange pale faces? They carry fearsome thunder sticks. Many warriors run from them, such is the fear they instill. Huron cannot control his men, and they rush South. They only later find out they were in a place called Tampico
[I think you know where i am going, hmm?]

1511-

We are not alone. Another Indian Nation exists. They call themselves Aztecs.

Feb 21: Not an auspicious start. We kindly asked for their maps, so that we would know the lay of the land. They refused.Well, Huron did not take this well. And word has been sent from the Confederacy. A new Indian Nation means competition. Competition means loss of some of the autonomy that the Confederacy has enjoyed. This cannot happen. This will not happen.
Huron is ordered to takw what they can, and sue for peace quickly. War, true war, shall be entered.

War with the Aztecs: March 11-June 20

On March 11, our forces, led by Huron, attacked the capital of the Aztecs. For some reason, no enemie was found. What is the plan of thes Aztecs. Huron immediately sends spies throughout the land, and discovers that a massive army sits in the souteern province. Huron decides that he must eliminate this one first. As such, he divides his forces into 2 groups. The diversionary group will have 5000 warriors. The main group will have the rest. The Diversionary group is to move west, then south. The main group is to engae the enemy and beat them back.
Victory or death!

March 21: The 2 war parties wish each other well, and set off for their destinations. This shall determine the outcome of this war.

April 6-10: Our main group engages the main Aztec force. Although several thousand Haudenosaunee warriors perish, the Aztecs retreat. Huron gives chase. Word reaches Huron that the enemy is attempting to call up reserves. This cannot happen.

April 17: The diversionary force arrives in Michoagan, and carries the day. The two parties move to meet each other in the last stronghold of the Aztecs.

May 6: Victroy. It si discovered that these Aztec have one more province. This must fall if the war is to be ended.

June 20: This Indian Nation was no match for the might of the Haudenosaunee. Immediate annexation is demanded, and after several moons(June 25) it is given. We now have 5 more provinces. And, we have gold. Huron begs to be sent north now, to see what lies there. To ensure the protection of these new provinces, 1000 warriors are called to each one. Huron sets north, not believing what he sees. There is another Great Lake, but on the Western side. In fact, this land, this new Confederate land, touches both Lakes. Such is the wonder, such is the glory. The Confederacy is greatly improved...

Whoo hoo, I'm rich, I tells ya, rich rich rich

Well, I have to say, Beating that Spanish conq, that was insanely sweet. Of course, he is now right next to Matagorda, and I am not sure if he will move into it.
Also, again i am seeing the "you need x amount to upgrade fort to level 1" but when i have enough, nothing. This is beyond aggravating.
I am going to ask posters something: Should lvl 1 forts be added to the new Aztec lands? If so, they would have to be level 1 only. Nothing higher is allowed. OR, do i leave them as is, which is grossly unfair, but game wise, more true to form. Because, as i am sure anyone who has conquered the Incas/Aztecs before knows, first thing you usually do is build forts to make sure no one can come in and take them from you. I have saved the game right after ordering the 1000 troops in each province of the Former Aztecs :D If people agree, i will edit in level 1 forts for all Aztecs lands.

Sigh, i think this AAR is already so far gone simply because the Iroquois are not designed to be played, unless in the Fantasia scenario, and even then, they are a pain.
Well, i shall wait for peoples votes on forts/no forts in the Aztec provinces.

[edit: i am sorry, i have naval tech 0, will hit 1 by 1562, if I am lucky(am the 4% inflation, that isn't helping, sigh :p Also, my current vps are 191, compared to 255 for Spain. Spain is killing me in Diplomacy, 41-15(and considering all i did was DoW Aztecs, and ask them for maps, that is pretty good, i guess) and in Economy, 211-157(but i am second, :D , but that is mainly because the Spanish have discovered a lot, but i have a lot of colonies :D )]

If you are going to modify the save game to make level 1 fortresses I say go for it. Like you said the game has gone farther than it should have since you modified the save game. Be fair though take out the money from your saved game. That should ease your mind a bit.

Also the ToT will allow Spain to just walk in and take it if you have no fortresses. So I say go for it. I suggest putting priority #1 on raising the $$ to build all the fortresses you need. Also be warned that IIRC Matagorda is within the area that the ToT covers so it might not stay yours for long.

Thanks. I will save up for the 5 forts, and then, when my inflation hits 50%(as it inevitably will :D ) i will curse these new gold provinces. Also, a silly silly question. If I go bankrupt, does that eliminate any inflation i have? just thinking of something(only hope it doesn't lead to my colonies rebelling)
And much thanks Xanadu. I am sure some would decry my maing the Iroquois playable, but you have been very supportive. Many thanks

Rise of the Haudenosaunee(continued)

(continued. I will begin to save up $ for the upgrades, and play until all can be afforded.)

1511-

June 25: Traders are sent to Mobile and Talahassee. The Confederacy funds are seriously depleted. The question of borrowing from some of the other tribes in and around the Confederacy, who claim protection under our banner is raised in the Great Council[the council of tribes who lead the Confederacy]. Doing so would allow some of our new lands to be fortified, but at what cost. For now, all investments are to be put into our treasury[update: 100% in treasury, god help my infaltion :D]

Aug 25: New posts in Mobile and Tallahassee. Good, more trade, and our lands are tied to each other very nicely

Sept 9: Huron arrives in a province called Jalisco. It is decided to send a settler there, in the hopes of expanding the lands of the Confederacy. As well, the decision to add all investment into treasury is having a drastic effect. We are gathering much tribute from our allies around the Confederacy[ update, that gold is giving me a 32.7d boost every month, but my inflation is at 4%. It will rise very fast]

Strange news comes from our Southern province, from Tehuantepec. Those pale faces have a trading post in the province next to us. What are they planning?
The Confederacy is suitably alarmed, and orders another 1000 warriors be gathered in the newly conquered lands. Voices are raised in worry. How will the Confederacy afford these new warriors. What will happen to the crops in and around the lands of the Haudenosaunee?

1512-

Jan 5: The monies are dwindling. They have dropped slightly from last year[ from 32.7 to 28.4, yikes!]. The Great Council decides that they cannot have the "contributions" from their allies[Sorry, by allies i mean the real/imagined natives who lived under nominal Confederacy rule. This was the only way i could think of to explain the massive investment in Treasury]
Another colonist awaits direction. Where shall he go? Rio Grande? Or wait for Huron to send word from Jalisco? After much deliberation, Cheif Bear Paw has an ephiphany(sp?).

"Wait for Huron. We have seen that by acting too quickly, we can doom our settlers. With the successful colonization of Jalisco, we will send more, and make it into a mighty village."

And so it will be...

Jan 6: Success, but strange news indeed. The harours of both Michoagoan and Jalisco are blocked, by strange men with patches over one eye, and strange cries of "Arrghh! Matey!". The next settler is sent to Jalisco, and concern over these strange beings is discussed in great detail in the Great Council. But, as the canoes used by the Haudenosaunee could not hope to match these beings "Grand Canoes" nothing will be done, for now, at least. It is also decided to invest in learning new things from the land, to aid the warriors[put 20% into land tech]

April 3: Another colonist arrives safely in Jalisco. All shall be sent there, until a thriving city sits there.

Sept 20: Another settler to Jalisco(Oct 13). It is hoped that a new fort may be placed in Tuxpan by the end of the year. And perhaps in Tenochtitlan as well.

Dec 13: It is as though the Great Spirit wishes Jalisco to bepart of the mighty Confedracy. Soon, it shall be a major city.

1513-

Jan 1: Forts are ordered for Tenochtitlan, Michoagan and Tuxpan. It is said that they will take 1 year to complete. So be it

[Update, I have 377 in treasury, and inflation is now 6%, so forts cost 106d a piece. Am putting 3 in, in Tenochtitlan, Michoagan and Tuxpan, so that is 318d for that, would have 59d left. I will do the subtraction now, continue next post]

Rise of the Haudenosaunee(continued)

[ok, i think i will leave the Inca alone. Too much of a good thing, and so on. And jan 1, 1514, the three new provinces will have their forts. This is much better :D]

Jan 24: Settlers are sent to Jalisco. The Great Council is happy with the news that the fortresses are being constructed in the newly acquired provinces. Huron, brave brave Huron hopes he can head north. Maybe there is a route from the West to the East. From this new Great Lake to the lands of the Haudenosaunee

March 24: Success.Jalisco grow stronger, which is good. The investments are spread out more, with a little bit being given to each shaman,to aid in their respective dreams.

July 29: If this settler succeeds in Jalsico, then a city will almost certainly be founded there. The Great Council prays to the Great Spirit, hoping that success will come. However, he must prepare

Aug 9: Worrying news from Matagorda. Those damnable pale faces have set up a trading post in the next province. That is too close for comfort for some, but nothing can be done now. It is only hoped that nothing bad comes of these developments...

Aug 22: The settler leaves Mohawk for Jalisco. Farewell, brave men!

Oct 22: The settlers arrive safely in Jalisco. They are welcomed by Huron, and send word. The natives living there have agreed to join the Confederacy shows a little more faith. Send one more group of settlers, and the province will be ours. It will be done.

1514-

Jan 1: The new forts in Tenochtitlan, Michoagan and Tuxpan are completed. Another settler, hopefully the last, is sent to Jalisco

March 24, 1514: A new city, a new hope, a new era. Jalisco grows to a full city(pop 5606!)

March 24: Huron is very impressed. The natives here, they were peaceful. Maybe the word of the Haudenosaunee generosity has reached even this far. Huron now heads north.

June 17: Will wonders never cease? Huron finds a place called Mazatlan. A warrior is sent to meet with the chief of the natives of these parts. A settler is prepared to send off to this new place. But, before that happens, terrible news. The warrior sent to try and establish peaceul relations with the natives is dropped in fron of Huron, with only a torso. Huron engages the natives. They shall pay!

July 2-3: The sneaky devils. The last of them, hiding in a tree, is slaughetred, and a trader is sent. Huron will move onward.

Sept 7: Empalme, but something strange is here. Heads, on poles. In a clearing. Huron decides it is pointless to attempt peace. He attacks the natvies

Sept 8: Only one day later, Huron is ready to move on. Sometimes he wonders why they bother to resist. They end up just as dead.

Oct 19: Death in Mazatlan. The traders are killed. Another will be sent.

Nov 1 1514:The shaman in charge of the warriors has a vision. Great Stone holes, firing big boulders. [Level 3 land tech, artillery, yippe!:D]

Nov 5-7: Huron, being more careful than usual, catches a raiding party. Supposedly, the natives in this province, Atlar, are planning to attack the Haudenosaunee War party while they sleep. Before he has the last of this raidng party killed, he learns where they are hiding. He attacks them first, wiping them out.Huron moves on. These empty provinces will make excellent trading areas. But not right away.

1515-

Feb 17: California? What is that?

Feb 17: Huron arrives in a place called San Bernadino. He will attempt to reproduce what he did in Jalisco. He only hopes he will not suffer for it. As such, a settler is sent immediately.

On June 28, 1515, a new colony is begun at San Bernadino. The natives seem to be peaceful. Let it stay this way.

Oct 7, a day that will live in infamy. The Haudenosaunee were viciously and undeniably attacked by the so called "pacifists" in the province of San Bernadino. Huron was forced to slaughter them all. He will not stay in this province.

(continued)
