Oh, come on. It was a joke, not a hijack. If I had wanted to hijack the thread I would have posted something arguementative about the civil war.

i am guessing there are a few detials to become a great/greater power needed
1. claims on a decent chunk of land with a decent power base. denmark doesnt have much of a claim on anything, while a greece or serbia might.
2. you need a fair outlet to the sea
3. you need to be able to avoid becoming a threat to the big boys early. portugal wouldnt upset the balance too much it, while a powerful sweden (after taking norway plus other europe land perhaps) would make germany and england uneasy![]()

You are entierly correct, although Norway had a similar possitom to Denmark for the first or first two centuries of theire union.Originally posted by Hive
As I understand it, Norway was not a part of Sweden - they were in 'Personal Union' with them. Sweden controlled Norway's foreign politicies and stuff like that, but I think they were more of a vassal than merely a province in Sweden. Norway was never as closely tied to Sweden as they were to Denmark.
But I'm not an expert, so correct me if I'm wrong...![]()

I think it should be handled in some sort of 'presteige' level, which is a combination of colonies, army size, money, ect. Maybe like
0 - 100 = Minor Power (Bulgaria, Aden, Punjab, Ect.)
100 - 200 = Normal Power (Bavaria, Poland, Serbia)
200 - 300 = Major Power (Japan, USA early, Ottos late, Spain)
300 - 400 = Great Power (USA late, GB, France, Prussia, Austria, Russia, Ottomans (?), Italy (?))
Anyway... I think that there should be a prestiege level, and it could be decided about who's who like that.
