Quick Annexation and Submission of rogues (1492-1501)

In 1492 Saxony was a pathetic nation with 2 impoverished provinces when I inherited it.The army, was a weak, but was much larger compared to the the smaller German States surrounding her. Immdiately I turned my attention South to Thuringen. there my 20,000 man army quickly Subdue its army, and capture there level 1 fort. They then accepted my Annexation of them into Greater Saxony. In 1498 , I turned my eyes toward the Baden. A small 1 province nation. It had allies, Lorraine and France. my army was now bloated to 40,000 infantry and 7,000 cavalry. If we attacked Baden, we would run the risk of having France and Lorraines Huge armys sweep me away. However I took a gamble and fortunately it paid off. The French dishonored the pact and Lorraine had only a small army. I moved in and quickly defeated 6,000 Baden Soldiers. Then Lay Siege to its city. The Level1 Fortress fell. Lorraines army then aprroached the province. However seeing my troops en-masse,They wisely sent a White peace.

Peace and Turmoil Alike (1501 - 1510)

Now having 4 provinces and clearly being the strongest nation in the holy Roman Empire. I set out to improve my economic base. Baliffs were all promoted and Merchants sent out. Inflation (Which I know nothing about) is rising and I dont know how to stop it, 18% and still going up. I had yet to take a loan and everything was invested equally so im not sure why this is happening. In 1507 the Plague struck the Saxon Capitol Devastating the conscription pool. And then Soldiers of my army began to mass dessert. To add to this Inflation was a huge 22% and I soon realized things were not good. I figured I could solve the Inflation Issue bye turning my Cannons south. Too Wurtemburg. I quickly raise new armys but bye 1510 Inflation is still rising.

Battle of Wurtemburg and the Massive war of Germanic States (1512-1516)

Wurtemburgs allies were many and no doubt I would have to deal with many of them.
To do this I decided that I would need an alliance of my own. After showering the Hansa, Denmark and Cologne I buddied up in there alliance. In 1511 the saxon army of 62,000 men were dispatched. Consisting of Roughly 30 cannon and 10,000 Cavarly. They soon moved south to Subdue Wurtemburg. I wanted WurtemBurg because of it was farely wealthly and would add a nice population pool to my nation. In 1512 war was declared. Most of Wurtemburgs allies kept there word.Lorraine,Hessen,Brandonburg, and Tuscany all came to Wurtemburgs Side. However I cannot say the same about mine. Hansa and Denmark dishonoured there alliance.I could not believe after all that Diplomatic effort only Cologne would stand with us! Immediately the Wurtems 10k army was attacked. However, Somehow my army was routed from the battlefield. To Make things worse Lorraine had just lay siege to Baden. Fortunately the Bradenurg army was Repulsed
in Saxony itself. They quickly made separate peace. However Wurtemburg lay siege to Thuringen with 7k men. My 50k army, which had regained its morale attacked and drove them from the field. I was just about to relieve Baden when, Cologne was annexed and now Hessen could concentrate on me.Even worse news came when Baden was Captured bye Lorraine.I decided to make peace with them hoping they would leave in alone. They accepted and annexed Baden. To make things worse, Tuscany and Wurtemburg had fortified wurtemburg. So this makes it impossible for me to take that province. However I turned my attention to an Approaching Hessen Force of 42k. I Ordered my Over-used but strong force of about 46k from Thuringin to meet the the Hessen army in Saxony. We met and defeated them. They offered us peace as leader of the Wurtemburg alliances for 57 gold, I promptly excepted! The War was over, however Saxony was a pillaged mess and my economy was in pathetic shape.

Utter Destruction of Saxony (1517 - 1522)

My Disater at wurtemburg was a suprise. Mainly because I didnt expect the Wurtems to fight so hard.I set out to repair my war ravaged nation I took several loans so that I could Promote Legal Counsels and up Trade.During all this my Inflation went nuts and my military maintence was only 50%. However in 1517 I was even more suprised when Bavaria declared war on me and marched in Thuringin with a 30k army. I was shocked and ordered my Ragged underpayed 27k army from saxony to relieve the province. Unfortunately, My army lost half its strength and was routed. Thuringin quickly fell and in 1520 I found myself trapped. Having only 2 provinces remaining and a pathetic army, Bavaria marched north from Thuringin to Anahana. The province was quickly taken and Bavaria Pressed on toward the Capitol of Saxony. Several Rebellions had breakin out but were put down. However my once huge army had been reduced too a 9k army and had to quell monthly rebellions in the home capitols. Soon,Saxony was Marched on and my army was defeated. The Siege lasted 3 months, before they decided to assualt and won the city. I had no choice but to accept there full annexation plans. Saxony had fallen and Bavaria inherited my 3 provinces.

btw- first AAR ;)

A little bit more details would be nice... I didn't even noticed you had an alliance with Hansa and Denmark until i read that they dishonoured. A little bit more info on diplomacy, maybe some tips about economy?
And inflation rises if you spend all your monthly income. That's generally not so good idea. It is best to spend most of monthly income on science and stability and try to live with yearly one.

Try to not take money from the monthly income until your earning at least 40 ducats a month that way you can buy what you need fast and then put everything back into science.

There is another way for weak nations. Going Bankrupt can be a blessing for weak nations. If early in the game you are threatened, take all five loans and buy every... Spend every cent and try to end all conflicts before running completely out of money as the bankruptcy results will cause your army to get slaughtered by everything short of 'rebel scum'. Then let the three years of bankruptcy wear off and you are in most cases better than before.

Remember though, going bankrupt causes your soldiers max morale to suck, your stability to drop by 3 and your cities to lose about 10% population. But they also half (mabye even more than half) your inflation and by taking the five loans, you get a 'free' 1000 ducats.

I only say to use this in EXTREME situations.

Bankrupcy: take all possible loans and don't pay them back. And send all monthly income to science. After 5 years, you will be bankrupt and inflation decreaces. Note: can't be done in 1.08 patch anymore, bankrupcy increaces infation instead.

Promote majors to governors: requires level 5 infrastructure, and each governor takes inflation down 1%.

Or pray for the miracle. And try a major in a beginning. It's easier to learn that way.

Your inflation will go up and up at the beginning of the game. Without a random event it will likely be at least 30% by the time you get enough Tech that you can promote to governors. Each one of these lowers inflation by 1 and each one helps slow the rate of inflation. If you have a fairly large number of provinces by the time you get them you can often get your inflation back down to 0 or almost 0.

Until you get a large amount of monthly income I usually keep the slider between -2 and +2. This keeps inflation as low as possible without using up all of the yearly income. In the early game you want to try to survive of only your yearly income while putting everything else into research.

There is a random event that lowers inflation by 33%, but it occurs less than once a century. When you get up to the proper infrastructure level, you can place mayors and they'll lower inflation. Before then, it's best to try to minimize the yearly increase in inflation by not taking very much of your income in cash.
