I lost my first pilot, Behemoth (after 27 deployments) on a 2 skull mission and on the same mission, Dekker was injured and out of commission for 94 days. Have anyone played a mission named Forward Observers after liberating Panzyr? This mission was to eliminate a scout lance and their reinforcements.

My lance consisted of a Dragon, Centurion, ShadowHawk and a Thunderbolt, figure not a problem... WRONG. The scout lance was a ShadowHawk, a Griffin and a Casida (sorry if wrong spelling), but the reinforcement lance consisted of a Hunchback, an Enforce, another ShadowHawk and a Vindicator.

Talk about an ambush .... I won the day, but it was expensive.... have anyone had played that mission?

This mission has been showing up for me several times now. I've completed these at least two or three times, maybe more.

If I remember correctly, however, Forward Observers was the one and only mission I had to withdraw from. An earlier mission had left my then small merc company with a lot of damaged mechs and injured pilots, so I decided to drop into this mission with a light/medium lance of only 3 mechs. These were only supposed to be a lance of scouts, what could possibly go wrong, am I right?

Turns out, it went completely sideways because a second lance of lights (Panther, Jenner, Firestarter, etc.) showed up immediately. Tried taking down as many as I could before I withdrew, but only managed to kill 1 mech from each lance. Since both mission goals were still only at 25%, it was a bad faith withdrawal on top of that. Ugh.


On the up side, I haven't had that much of a problem with Forward Observers since then. But I guess when you get one with a considerably higher difficulty than is being shown, it can end up as a nasty surprise.

My Behemoth also sadly died. She was pretty experienced too - Juggernaut/Evasive Piloting. A Hunchback killed her with a single punch to the face. Random bad luck I guess, but it made me sad :(.
Had my 'mechs kill opponents with punch to the face twice since then, so I guess karma turned around.

XTRMNTR2K, at the time, I didn't notice the withdraw button otherwise I would it had withdraw. Just like you, I had a lot of damage mechs and not to mention Behemoth dead and Dekker out of action. It was a slug fest, but I prevailed, lucky me, I had a second lance of available mechs ready and almost 4m in C-Bills.

Yea, done that. It is a bit of an ambush mission. I beat it, but I lost two mechwarriors and my personal warrior (me) was incapacitated for 110 days. My mechs were right offs, costing a lot of money and time to fix.

Yeah, it's rather easy to overlook. It's almost as inconspicuous as the eject button! :D

Glad to hear you managed to get things up and running again afterwards, though!

My waterloo was an Assassination Mission with the name hard Target. Usual Target and Escort Size but reinforcements came in form of 3 heavies and 2 mediums, full armour. 3 skulls my arse. I had one heavy, a quickdraw, at this point. Lost glitch and behemoth.
