Can someone explain the mechanics behind the Ringworld Sanctuary? I don't have a Fallen Empire enabled, but I have found this system right next to my homeworld.

The Wiki says nothing useful.

It's a rare spawn random system that contains four habitable sections ringworld with a bunch of stations protecting it. Each of the ringworld sections has a primitive civilization living on it (so, it your policies allow it, you can invade them after you deal with the guardians).

Smash defenders and claim it for yourself. It has nothing to do with FE, so it's safe.

You'll actually want to wait for something MUCH better than Corvettes. I thought I could take on the defenders when I got my first 10 battleships rolled out, only to watch the stationed wipe my fleet.

Reason is: they are using FE defense stations which are extremely long range, so unless you engage with range 100 weapons you'll come into the firing range of multiple stations at a time. Furthermore, the stations (especially the central 7k one) have extremely fast-regenerating shields. When I first hit it with 10 battleships + load of escorts, I couldn't even bring their main station's shields down.

Try to have at least disruptors and long-range battleships (with either tachyon lance, kinetic artillery, or giga cannon) before attacking it. Otherwise even if you beat it your navy will be scrap.
