I know. I always have fun playing the game at the beginning, unless something terrible happens, but then get angry when an AI is unfairly powerful.

I haven't tried that, but I feel the AI just wants to gut me.

Usually it does! Can you post a screenshot of the map so we can better see the situation? Or .zip up a save and let people here take a crack at it, if you don't mind, while you take a break from it. (I'm not saying I can solve it, for sure, but there's often a way.) You can start another game in the meantime to relax. Perhaps play Bohemia. :D

I've tried those, and they would work if it was long term. But I've tried everything and they are intent on my death.

I would offer a royal marriage, but I am sadly a Theocracy :(
To a first approximation, my policy is to never marry a blob, unless I am either (a) a blob or (b) inaccessible to the blob in question (e.g. I'll cheerfully marry France as Muscovy, or a Polblob as Portugal). AI blobs spam marriages, and will claim thrones at the drop of a hat. When the blob claims a throne, it poisons its relations with all of its marital links.

This goes double when the blob in question is the sitting emperor.

Nice flame, learn to read before you try to make petty and pathetic attacks on the OP. I wrote the OP in a humorous tone but apparently you could not comprehend this.

I explained in my previous post why the excommunication was necessary.

That is by far the stupidest excuse I've ever seen. Just because you add in some "jokes" (you call them jokes), doesn't mean the rest of your text goes the same way when you write seriously there. How do your jokes in the rest of the post make your statement of "by far the worst Paradox game ..." any less serious when it can't even be said as a joke?

And sure, I have a really nice flame, look at it, it's going right out of my hand and it looks so fabulous.

The only reason I delete out my insults towards you is because this is a respectable gaming community with nice folks out here and I don't want to get myself removed from them just to express my opinion of some individual who clearly seems to be having some sort of anger managment issues.

I'm not making "petty and pathetic attacks" on the OP, I'm making constructive and reasonable attacks on you, based on the complete non-sense you've written there.

Either way, if Bohemia had a core on that province at the time of the war when they didn't have it before, then it was added most likely thru the random event that gives a core on a random bordering province (something about diplomatic scandal or whatever, can't remember), if I recall correctly (about the event), or thru another event (maybe historical or something).

I enjoy your attempt to flame, but you could try harder.

From now on people who flame shall be put on my ignore list, so please stop, and avoid posts like the person above.

Oh no, he has put me on his ignore list. I don't know what to do with my life anymore, it's like a zombie apocalypse or even something worse happening in my life, and your threats to ignore list everyone else who does the same are so crazy... you're like the North Korean dictator, an end must be put to your evil rule of ignore-listing people that offend you, I will be contacting Obama ASAP.

And yes, I could try harder, but this is a respectable gaming community with strict forum rules, I'd rather not get myself out of here just because of someone like you, you're not worth it.

Few Suggestions. when I know someone is gunning for me (and its obvious) I do these things.

Royal Marrage, Give access, ask for access, boost relations.

You see, those things there, all give stability hits. They DOW you and suddenly they are in the negatives, and then revolts start in their nation. during the war as well as their income is hurt work.

Also, it must be said... if they are beating you, they are beating you. That just means you loose.

You see, this is a game you can win, or loose. If you get beat you loose, suck it the heck up and stop crying. boo hoo I lost in a game, waaaaaaah. I'd hate to see you play an older real time strategy, love to hear you rage after a zergling rush.

But seriously, it happens.

you say the got cores on you out of nowhere, those are called events, probably they got a mission to take that land, or a bad cartography event or something, it happens, its part of the game.

Also if they have to many high of an army for you to fight outright then fight them other ways, go around them and take their land, make them chase you, the longer the war goes on the harder it is for THEM.

I played as the Teutonic Order, formed a nice little realm for myself by gutting Lithuania, Poland, and slices of Novgorod.

Anyone else wonder what the forums would be like if the various AI counties we destroy could post here to complain about how broken or terrible the game is every time we win a war?

I don't know the limitations of the game; posting a screenshot would help. It would seem that Bohemia is a beast and you must contain her - either crush her now and watch the vulture-esque neighbours have a go on the corpse, or give her what she wants and build up elsewhere.
If now, lure her into your lands, and keep armies nearby. Your supply limit will be lowly for her armies, and if you scorch it you can choose a good time to fight. Mint and loan like crazy and use your manpower wisely and if you manage to defeat an army, try and follow up and exterminate it by chasing it. Wait till you get a good enough warscore for a core revocation, or alternatively occupy Bohemia but risk ruining your economy, war exhaustion and domestic military (other countries might sense your vulnerability).

The AI isn't unfairly powerful. It's the HRE. It is not this
, but this. The Emperor having a core on you is bad news, because it is not the nation alone: and if you win the race for the Imperial throne, you get those same bona as well - not less, not more. While I did misunderstand your post before (for which I am sorry), it does not change that these are all mechanics documented in game and out of it. It is a though situation, but it is not unfair.

I go through something similar in my Venice campaigns and Austria seems intent on wiping Venice out. If you are already at war and cannot best Bohemia try this: Depending on the map you may ask for military access from someone who borders Bohemia and you. The idea is to travel though those lands to attack Bohemia deep into their territory. If you manage to threaten their capital they may pull troops back to defend it. This would buy your other forces time to gain an advantage. If they don't pull the forces back then siege the capital and take it. Many times that is enough for a white peace. Basically take the battlefield strategy of flanking and apply it to a large scale.

Truthfully it just sounds like you are woefully unprepared for war and if so, that is on you. If you share a border with Bohemia of course Bohemia will be concerned over your gutting of Lithuania, Poland, and slices of Novgorod. Why have useless allies? you said in another post that you brought yourself an extra decade or something to prepare, well what exactly did you do during this time? How did you prepare? Edit: a screenshot would definitely help

The solution is to make more units and exploit the AI's terrible flaws. If you think you can't afford more units, you probably messed up your economy somewhere, because the AI is not exactly an economic genius itself.

This game is not without flaws, but the AI is anything but overpowered.

Update your sig, cacra. There is plenty of gold at the Paradoxplaza Sloths appreciation chat.

And seriously, just build an army. The AI is so incompetent that it falls behind horribly in tech by LT 22 ( thats where tech costs become huuuuuuuuge and the Ai doesn't really cope well with it. It drops fairly quickly again though). By that point if you know how to play the game, it should be a breeze

Seems like your goal is to survive a war that you can't prevent and you are going to lose.
--Get military access from a neighbour far from Bohemia, run your troops there when the war starts (to keep them alive). Increase the size of your sphere of influence by as much as you can, let them come and take everything, eventually they will accept peace for a reduction of 2 or 3 of your sphere. Now you have the truce to build a better defence.

The AI will often accept strange peace deals. In the off season, try to ally France or whatever other powerful empire has arisen with plenty of troops and man power.

I have investigated the game by saving and then loading into other countries at various points. The AI doesn't cheat, they are good with their money, take loans, pay them back, manage their stability, their inflation. The AI is pretty decent given how complex the game is.

Middle Europe right through all of France, the provinces have insane manpower and terrific economy. To battle them, you need to be very smart, bait them into traps, the AI really does suck at choosing where to attack if you leave a tempting target, over mountains and rivers for example. I have never seen the AI scorch, but for you it can wipe out an attacking force. If they are on your province, sit next door and as soon as you see an assault, go for it. You can beat a 20 stack with 10 no problem, even if they get a monthly tick on their morale.

So many tips littered through these forums, but you know, sometimes you just lose the game. Also, check your difficulty setting. Strangely I am well into my best ever start as Byzantium and I accidentally left it on Hard after my last Castille game.

The TO can be deceptively difficult to new players who don't understand all the mechanics. You have a number of provinces which aren't Prussian, and if you've expanded in Poland, Lithuania, and Novgorod, you probably have a bunch of non-cores and some non-Catholic provinces.

Combine all this with your opponent being the Emperor, and you put yourself in a difficult situation without realizing it.

Ideally, you want to get Military Drill as soon as possible and be mindful of when and how to spend your money. Keep army and navy maintenance minimal except during wartime and always raise war taxes unless you have huge exhaustion and/or revolt risk. Since you're doing single player, you might also want to set the game to pause whenever you win a battle so that you can start redirecting your armies.

Also, scorched earth is your friend. Scorch a border province, let the AI pile onto it, let them wear themselves down with attrition, and then attack. If you're playing 5.2, this should be especially effective for draining Bohemia's manpower.

If you're still having trouble, consider dropping your production, trade, and naval tech sliders down to zero after you unlock the first tier of production/trade buildings. Allocate to government, army, stability, or minting depending on what you need. You'll want government to get new ideas and army to get better units. Minting is useful when you need money fast, but if you do it too much, inflation will add up, and you'll also fall behind in tech.

Since you're a theocracy, it's a good idea to always turn your leaders into generals since you simply get a new one when the old one dies. Having a general is always better than no general.

About this one - I'd rather suggest using the AI method - put all of your money in 1 tech section (leaving some to minting if needed), that way the research is WAY faster and you can allocate all that money to another sector or higher tech level quicker, without having the slow-ass steady build-up of every tech level. It's very slow and ineffective to research all at once (well, in the end the result is same, but you can quicker unlock a specific tech's bonuses by pouring all the money into it and then go to other techs from highest priority to lowest so you can get all your needed stuff as early as possible).
