Thanks a lot, I was really thinking on giving up writing this AAR, but encouraged I will write the new pages in Persian History.

Yes, indeed, I also found Persia to be most exciting to play. First, because its unique position on the border of the known world and hard position to start [little income for such a big country, 3 religions in home province and political instability (-3), so that first years until stability is increased you have to fight rebellions]. Also the bordering Turks will not let you sleep well. What I found unfair is that Turks (or other Sunni country) can force a Shiite nation like Persia and Mameluks to convert to Sunni religion as a peace resolution, while vice versa is not possible.

Joe, keep up your good work. In your game what are your current borders, did you expanded in Asia Minor and did your annexed any any bordering countries [like Uzbeks, Sibir, Georgia]?

Cornelius.

Persia. Part IX: 1530 - 1533 / Period of recovery

Year 1530

I was recently appointed to continue the work of our Persian Court Advisor and Historian. I think I will face many challenges in years to come, as Persia now is twice bigger from the last 27 years of wars and conquests. Our monarchs managed to bring under Persian rule 4 whole countries: Georgians, Uzbeks, Sibir and Crimean Tatars, and also 3 Turkish provinces. The entire Sunni world hates us for our expansion, but we are protected by one of the strongest alliances.

Tax 149d. We divert all our tax income to recruiting efforts – a new army of 10000 infantry in Kars and 2000 infantry in Georgia.

In the first day of this year the population of Kalmuk province revolts against Persian rule. But we will leave them to freeze outside the fortress walls during the winter [that should teach them to behave in the future] and will crush the surviving rebels in the spring.

As our armies left the Constantinople and Turks started to rebuild their fortress an 11k Moldovan army started a new siege of Turkish capital.

We rebuild our famous Tabriz Army with 4000 footmen from Trabzon and 4000 footmen from Armenia, while Sochi Regiment is sent from its barracks in Azerbadzjan to Angora to serve as a police force in former Turkish provinces.

During February 17 – March 18, Kars Army [4508 / 9902] engaged a rebel army [9129 / 3173] in Kerch that were already damaging the fortress. We gained a victory against rebels, but the price was high – more than 7000 Persian are dead or severely wounded [and maybe some deserted – those that were someday Sibir warriors]. We send our newly recruited army of 10k infantry to reinforce the Kars Army that now has another target – the remaining 5000 rebels in Kalmuk that survived the winter.

At the end of winter we received news that Poland-Lithuania gave up the fighting against the Turks and reached a white peace agreement with them.

On the 1st of July, the Financial Advisor brought to me wonderful news – we developed new trading techniques that will allow us to gain monopolies in the Centres of Trade [Trade Tech 3]. I told him that now we should divert all our monthly income to improve our provincial infrastructure.

In mid-July, Manamah arrived in Karaganda with only 427 horsemen and after he was reinforced with a small detachment from Persis Regiment that is stationed in former Sibir lands, he was send to chart the remaining Siberian provinces with 1527 footmen and 2406 horsemen.

On August 8, Mameluks were happy to pay off with 74d the Walachian army that were besieging Sivas fortress together with their masters – Turks.

On 1st of September we manage to gain monopoly in Isfahan CoT and now we will try to compete out Hedjas and Turkish merchants. One month later we see two Hedjas merchants packing and leaving Isfahan.

In mid-November the 11k Moldovan army conquered Constantinople – Suleyman I is probably disgraced forever as during a single war Turkish capital was captured twice. And second time by Moldova - a small nation of very brave men. I think their legendary monarch Stefan the Great that died 25 years ago, the man who stopped Turkish expansion in Europe, now would be proud of his men as they fulfilled his dream to conquer Constantinople.

Moldovans requested all Turkish treasury of 21d as war indemnities in exchange for peace. Now only Mameluks and Turks still have to reach an outcome of their hatred to each other.

On first days of December Kalmuk revolts again and again in wintertime. Previous rebellion did not teach them anything, or they are just too stubborn to admit their fate. As spring will come next year we will send them some gifts with our Kars Army [11682 / 9137].

Year 1531

Tax 186d. A very substantial increase in our tax income with the addition of new territories to Persian Empire, that now is almost as big as during Darius rule some 2000 years ago.

We use this peaceful time that we have now to rebuild our forces and strengthen our borders. We commission an upgrade to the Kaffa fortress and recruit 1000 infantry for Tabriz Army, 2000 infantry for Persis Regiment stationed on Astrakhan border and 2000 infantry for Hormouz Regiment recently created to protect the interior of our Kingdom.

In April our monarch launched a fortification effort in Balucht and our minimal fortress was upgraded.

By mid-July Mameluks were forced to accept peace from Turkey giving two provinces - Sivas and Syria. Someday we will avenge our Shiite brothers.

New provinces were charted by Manamah's expedition: Bratsk, Touva, Irkutsk, Ekimcan and Amour. Pity that we do not have brave men to send to populate this vast area and claim it for our country.

The year past almost uneventful, except for some rebellions in former Turkish and Crimean provinces and which were easily put down by our police forces.

Year 1532

Tax 180d. Some of the recently rebelled provinces refused to pay taxes and our income decreased a little.

We start a new fortress upgrade, this time in Kars, and recruit 2000 footmen for Sochi Regiment and 3000 footmen for Hormouz Regiment.

On February 24 we discover the border of a great nation – China, and establish diplomatic relations with them.

In July Russia, seeing our fast expansion in the region, decided to try and take something for them. They declared war on lonely Kazan. Russia is supported by Pskov, Ryazan, Denmark, Sweden and Austria with Savoy that will be only as passive observers.

New territories were discovered – Viazemski, Nakhodka, Olga, Nelma and Sikhote.

Year 1533

Tax 187d. We start a new upgrade, now for Kouban fortress and recruit 2000 foot in Angora and 2000 foot in Hormouz. Also we decide to train 1000 horsemen in Basrah, as we spotted 2 Turkish trade posts in Damman and Quatar that we will be eager to burn down on first possibility.

On January 18, Kazan accepted peace with Russia and handed them all their treasury of 55d. We thought that Russia with the help of so many allies would annex Kazan, but maybe this is another trick from Russians.

At the end of August a group of merchants in Basrah, wanting to improve their standing in the eyes of our monarch have donated 7 ships that we have converted to warships. We send them to join our fleet of 3 warships, stationed in Hormouz fleet.

On November 6 we finally competed all foreign merchants from our CoT in Isfahan.

By mid-December we received a new set of maps from Manamah with provinces of Vanin, Amgoun, Kretchet, Tchumkan, Nagorie, Stanovoie [we wonder why this territories bear Russian names].

Dear Cornelius, if you wish to restore an empire of Darius you absolutely must to annex Mamelukes. As they like you a lot why not vassalize them after sending a gift or two. Their vast territories will be a good prize for your hard labor and money.

Hm, as far as the comparison with Darius goes: remember, he didn't fare so well against Scythians. Beware the Russians :)

I'm just curious, what are your religion tolerances set at? I noticed the Crimeans are revolting but not the onery Georgians. Maybe lightening up on the Sunnis would help, since you have no colonists to convert them?

Oh, and I too feel the pain of having explored vast territory without any volunteers to settle it. I had to watch as the English, Dutch, and a few french snatched up New Ireland from me  you should do better since you control access to Siberia.

Keep going!

I took over the Uzbeks while Russia took Sibir. They then thought that I would be easy pickens but were wrong. We fought a couple of wars and I came out on top by taking the provinces that gave them access to Siberia. So now I 'm the colonizer not Russia. Siberia is all mine. :D Georgia I haven't touched. In fact I still at around 1600 haven't touched anyone in the middle east except for that one war with Turkey early in the game. I'm still picking on the Europeans in India though. :D I just let them do all the work then DOW fill in the blank and take another province or two. India is quite wealthy!

I have 3 religions in Persian Kingdom: Sunni, Orthodox and, of course, Shiite. I set tollerance to suit everyone and this helps as I have high stability [+3] and I try to fight short wars. Regarding Georgians, already past 30 years since I annexed them and now their nationalist spirits cooled down. After annexing Uzbeks and Sibir I was pleased to find that they were happy to accept Persian rule [no nationalism revolt risk]. Former Turkish and Crimean provinces are revolt prone due to nationalism and not religious tollerance.

Persia. Part X: 1534 - 1541 / New wars, new gains

Year 1534

Tax 186d. We continue in our efforts to recover from war and also strengthen our borders: we commission an upgrade to the Basrah fortress and a tax collector in Kaffa. Also 1000 cavalry is trained in Karakum as we spot another trade posts in unsettled regions of Caspian Sea.

During the year Anatolia province revolted twice and in battles with rebels we lost over 10000 warriors – what a waste of good warriors in peacetime.

Manamah after discovering provinces of Kalar and Buriat returns home for reinforcements.

Year 1535

Tax 181d. We decide to upgrade the fortress of Anatolia to small level, so that our garrison can resist longer sieges in future Turkish conflicts and in case of rebellions. Also 3000 infantry in Anatolia and 1000 infantry Angora were recruited to replace last year losses. Also we recruit 1000 cavalry in Karaganda for Manamah's expedition.

A new war broke up in Mediterranean as Portugal [Pommerania, Teutons, Venice and Hansa] declared war on The Knights of Rhodos [Tuscany, Genoa, Eire].

As spring came we send Manamah in a new expedition to chart the shore provinces of the far Siberian sea.

On June 22nd dare news reached the Persian palace – Oman accepted to be part of Turkish Empire, so now we have to fight future Turkish wars on two borders. This will disperse our armies and therefore will decrease their effectiveness.

By the end of the year a new province in Siberia was charted – Baladok. And a year has past without a revolt – what a relief!

Year 1536

Tax 188d. Further improvements are made in our country – an upgrade of Hormouz fortress and a tax collector in Anatolia. Also we add 1000 infantry to Sochi Regiment that now police Anatolia province.

On April 1st two news reached the palace – Anatolia revolts again, those peasants are most probably led by an undercover Turkish colonel; another news are that two rebel provinces in northern part of Britannic Island have recreated the nation of Scotland and on the same day they declared war on their overlords. All France's allies refused to fight the Scots and the alliance broke apart.

After several months England seeing an opportunity for itself declares war on the Scots. Wurtenberg and Thuringen join the Englishmen, but I suppose they joined only in order to remain in the alliance, as they will be of little use in this war.

On August 7th, Poland-Lithuania wanting to regain its lost province drags our alliance into war with Brandenburg. We find out that Bohemia is also in our alliance and they also joined in the fight against lonely Brandenburg.

I knew that this war would bring us problems! On September 8th, Golden Horde with the help of Astrakhan declared war on Persia. We decide to call our allies for help – all join except Spain. I hope Poland-Lithuania will ask Spain to join again our alliance. Col. Hoggar with Tabriz Army [22108 / 0 / 47] moves to Astrakhan capital to force them out of the war as soon as possible, so that Golden Horde alone will be a much easier opponent.

On the first day of October a new breakthrough in Infrastructure brings as the possibility to appoint chief judges in our provinces that will increase our income and also will serve to decrease revolt risk. We continue with spending in Infrastructure.

On 1st of November Tabriz Army arrived in Astrakhan – having double superiority in infantry and cannons, and also a much higher morale we decide to assault the fortress.

One-month later the fortress is captured and seeing that main Astrakhan forces are besieging Mameluk province of Crimea, we think that we can rip them of one of their provinces before suing for peace. On December 10th, col. Hoggar arrived in Orenburg and nothing can stop him from taking a minimally fortified city [5000 / 0 / 10].

By end of month and year Orenburg fortress fall to our forces, Tabriz Army returns victoriously to Azerbadzjan. We decide to delay with our peace proposal – letting first Tabriz Army to pass through Astrakhan territory to the Caucasian region.

Another provinces are discovered by our brave explorer - Djugdjur, Enkan, Okhotsk, Magadan and with Kolyma we discover the Kamchatka peninsula.

Year 1537

Tax 188d. We promote our first Chief Judge in Isfahan and with the rest of our treasury we recruit 3000 infantry in Anatolia and 2000 in Azov to reinforce Kars Army that watches over the Horde armies.

On February 3rd, we send our peace proposal to Astrakhan – Orenburg province and their treasure of 31d. With the indemnities we recruit 3000 infantry for now depleted forces of Tabriz Army.

On March 1st, we are overjoyed to hear that our monarch started a major fortification effort and the Hormouz fortress was improved to medium level [random event: fortress to lvl.3].

Two days later Tabriz Army arrived in Azerbadzjan, where col. Hoggar will wait until the recruits will be ready to join him and after that invade one of the Horde's provinces. Horde seems to be very passive in this war – only one army was sent to Mameluk's province of Crimea and their army now is down to 8000 men, not enough even to start the siege.

On first days of April Tabriz Army is ordered to invade Lugansk, a province that the Horde made the mistake to leave it minimally fortified and that is already besieged by Mameluks. Also an envoy brought news that former enemies Spain and France are now allied together with Brittany. Most probably Spain wants to secure its European borders and concentrate its efforts on colonizing new worlds that we heard they discovered some 40 years ago.

On June 4th we join with Tabriz Army the siege of Lugansk fortress and by end of July it surrenders to Mameluks. We retreat our army back to our territory, we will let Mameluks first sue for peace, so that they can add Lugansk province to their Crimean holdings, and after that we will sign peace with the Horde.

On November 18th Brandenburg pays 250d to Mameluks, we are happy for our brothers as we think they will put at good us these gold. Ten days later a white peace is signed between Poland-Lithuania and Golden Horde.

We expand our knowledge of Siberian lands with 3 more provinces: Chelehov, Kamenskoie and Korfa.

Year 1538

Tax 191d. We appoint a Chief Judge in Tabriz and recruit 4000 infantry in Armenia and 2000 infantry in Azerbadzjan.

Several days after the start of the year Manamah charted the last Siberian province. Now he returns home with the surviving 220 horsemen.

At the end of February Golden Horde launches a massive invasion against Mameluks. On 1st of November they already captured Crimea province – and now not wanting a continuation to this war we ask Golden Horde for a white peace and they agree, returning captured Crimean province back to Mameluks.

In Angora after 2 years breaks up a revolt that is easily and without considerable losses is dispersed by Sochi Regiment.

Year 1539

Tax 186d. Turkey has a large force in Syria and instead of spending our treasury on improvements; we recruit more forces for our forces in Hormouz – 4000 infantry and 20 cannons.

By mid-March Manamah arrived from its expedition with only 88 horsemen. Now he is sent to Hormouz, where he will be reinforced and sent in a new expedition along the coast of Arabian Sea.

At the end of May we form a new army – Iraq Regiment [13k / 0 / 20] with col.Nadjaf that will guard the border with Turkish Syria and the Hedjas.

At December 21, Brandenburg is put on its knees – they agree to return Pripet to Poland-Lithuania and pay 250d in war indemnities. We receive our portion of 50d.

Year 1540

Tax 192d. We appoint chief judges in Persis and Iraq. The remaining treasury is just enough to recruit 1000 footmen in Armenia.

Very strange – on 1st of December our beloved monarch decided to improve further the walls of Hormouz fortress [random event: fortress to lvl.4]. We have now our first large fortress.

Another peaceful year ended. We thank Allah for giving us time to improve our position.

Year 1541

Tax 193d. We appoint a chief judge in Hormouz. The rest of treasury we spend on recruiting infantry – 1000 in Armenia, 1000 in Angora.

Manamah receives for his expedition 2000 footmen and 1000 horsemen. And as his men are ready, he leads them into unknown. By end of May he arrived in Kalat, where natives attacked him but they were repulsed for no loss and his cavalry charges the survivors until every native is dead.

On August 5th we received very bad news, Turkey was admitted in alliance with France, Spain, Brittany and Ragusa. Black clouds are gathering upon Persia.

In September as Manamah discovers Thar province he is attacked by local natives, but manages to defeat and annihilate them all.

On September 1st as we reach a new level in Infrastructure Technology [lvl.4] we divert all spending into Naval Technology. On the same day Bohemia turned Protestant and left our alliance.

On November 17, we discover the Mughal Empire. Rich land that annexed could bring Persia riches beyond imagination. But this are just dreams!

I missed it, did you actually annex Astrakhan this time? I would have gone for them in your first war, if just to strengthen your stranglehold on the Siberian approaches. Remember the words of Shaka Zulu; The worst thing to do to an enemy is almost kill them.

Don't worry about your English... your errors are very minor, and could mostly be mistaken for typos...

Was this a vassalization or dynastic inheritance? Isn't England at war? And it's only 1498?

Deaghaidh, SimonM,

Thanks for reading my AAR and for comments - it is most appreciated, because it gives me incentives to continue with my playing and writing.

Regarding England annexing Hannover - it was an inheritance, because it was in the start of the game and Hannover wasn't a vassal. Moreover, IIRC Hannover in 1492 has best diplomatic relations with England and also has a RM. The England-Hannover vassalisation with annexation (or inheritance) happens a lot in my games, usually in 1 out of 5 games.

Regarding Astrakhan - in the version of IGC I am playing Astrakhan is 4 province country and the bb impact would have been high [while Sibir and Uzbeks are Rest-of-the-World]. That's why I decided to reap them slowly [and cash is good for my economy :)].

Yeah, isn't it good for the writer's self-esteem!
More seriously, I think another good way to measure interest is the number of people looking at the aar as not all of them will be commenting.
Anyway keep up with your story, it's somewhat different because you do not have so much opportunity to colonize yet and because the technology advances come so slow for shiites.

It's quite hard but the same is true for Russia if it wants to expand and they a lot more ennemies than you do to begin with.
Btw, at some point you mentionned russian tags on uzbek provinces. I seem to remember only the two or three northermost uzbek provinces have them. And there's something funny about the provinces bordering the caspian sea: every country having them on their maps and having settlers can move in there (I once saw a papal trade post) as it looks they are considered bordering an ocean.
Finally you considered burning the turk's tps along the persian gulf but you could also try to take them in your next war with them. I think it may help you having a supply line if you try to go after the ex-Oman provinces; at worst the turks will then have to retake (and burn!) them and if you still have them and have colonists it will improve your chance of setting a colony.

Persia. Part XI: 1542 - 1554 / Thirteen years of peace

Year 1542

Tax 193d. We further strenghen our Iraq Regiment with 1000 cavalry and 10 cannons. We also appoint a chief judge in Kars.

On June 18, Golden Horde assisted by Astrakhan declares war on Kazan, instead of allying together against Russian and Persian threats the Khanates fight each other. This mistake will destroy them.

By mid-August, Manamah send us maps of Kutch, Cambay, Aurangabad and Bombay, and also a story how he managed to annihilate 3000 natives in Cambay. Good news reached us – Hafsid Empire joined our alliance – now Mameluk border in North Africa is secured. Moreover, Turkey lost a valuable ally in them.

In October, Manamah on behalf of our monarch establishes diplomatic relations with Hyderabad and we receive information on two of their provinces: Nagpur and Hyderabad.

Year 1543

Tax 195d. Iraq Regiment receives additional reinforcements – 2000 infantry. The rest of treasury is spent on promoting a chief judge in Basrah and a tax collector in Orenburg.

We gained a breakthrough in naval technology and from now on our navies will use more deadlier metal cannon balls [naval tech lvl.4]. Manamah established diplomatic relations with another nation – Mysore, and later he sends us maps on two of their provinces: Mysore and Deccan.

On February 2nd, France [Brittany, Spain, Ragusa and Turkey] declared war on Teutons [Portugal, Pommerania, Venice, Hansa, Navarra, Naples] that are still holding Flandres province. This war will keep Turkey busy for a while and will deplete their resources and armies – what is very good for us.

One month later, Tuscany [Genoa, Knights and Eire], not happy with France's aggression declares war on them and their allies. Another war to keep Turkey busy.

On June 10th, Russia breaking its peace treaty with Kazan, declares again war on them. All Russia's allies [Ryazan, Pskov, Denmark, Sweden] join again and by end of August Ryazan already leaves the war with 56d indemnities paid by Kazan. On the same day first Astrakhan accepts a white peace proposal from Kazan and later Golden Horde follows.

By late October we enrich our knowledge of Indian peninsula with provinces of Goa, Bangalore, Mangalore and Kerala.

Year 1544

Tax 196d. We appoint a chief judge in Awhaz and commission 2000 infantry for Sochi Regiment, 2000 infantry for Kars Army, 2000 infantry for Tabriz Army and 1000 cavalry for Iraq Regiment. We slowly increase our armies in order to be ready for an eventual war with Turkey.

Kazan pays to Pskov 79d as war retribution in June, but by the end of October they are annexed by Russia. Russia finally got what it wanted for so long – the province of Kazan.

In June Navarra is military annexed by France and Tuscany, being afraid of the same fate, sues for white peace with France. In a short ceremony peace is restored. Lorraine is readmitted back into French alliance. They understood a simple diplomatic issue – if they want to remain independent they should by allied with France.

During the year three revolts were subdued in Anatolia, Kalmuk and Kerch, and fortunately all with minimal losses for Persian armies.

Manamah continue to send home reports of distant and rich lands: Trivandrum, Madurai, Pondicherry and Madras.

Year 1545

Tax 185d is used to appoint a chief judge in Anatolia and to commission 5000 infantry for Sochi Regiment that polices former Turkish provinces in Asia Minor.

A messenger from Manamah brought maps of Yanam, Parlakimedi, Madia Pradesh, Sambalpur and Berhampur that after a quick look at them we sent to the Royal Library to join the rest of maps. We send the messenger back to Manamah with the order to return home.

Another year without a revolt – what a relief, maybe the population of annexed Crimean and Turkish provinces finally understood that resistance is futile.

Year 1546

Tax 199d. Tax collectors are appointed in Kurgan and Kustanai, and new infantry detachments are commissioned throughout Persia – 1000 in Anatolia, 2000 in Azov, 4000 in Hormouz.

Another wave of religious changes in Europe – Jean Kalvin proclaims Reformation for Protestants.

Venice concluded its hostilities with Spain by paying 145d, and signed a white peace with Ragusa. But they still have to face the Frenchmen.

Year 1547

Tax 200d. 1000 infantry and 10 cannons are commissioned in Hormouz and 2 transports in Basrah. We are preparing an army for a sea borne invasion in former Oman provinces.

Portugal managed to buy Spain with 189d to end their hostilities and France got 125d indemnities from Hansa.

After 2 years a nationalist revolt broke up in Kerch that without too much effort was subdued by Kars Army.

On August 1, the nation of Netherlands is born in Austrian lowlands. The same day their government declares state of war with Austria.

Year 1548

Tax 203d.
On the first day of January I participated at a festivity in Khorasan province as the city of Meched was inaugurated and on behalf of our monarch I handed to the province khan the full rights of a city province. On the same day we commission a tax collector in province.

We increase our marine corps in Hormouz with additional 3000 infantry. To command this small army we will appoint Manamah, as his knowledge about foraging in diverse hostile conditions will help us to maintain long sieges in Arabian Desert.

A chief judge is appointed in Hamad. Slowly Persia is becoming prosperous.

On last days of June Pommerania is forced first to pay 211d to Spain and later to sign a white peace with France. On August 12th Portugal pays 69d to France and 12 days later Naples pays 250d to Turkey together with handing the province of Apulia. As I can judge by now this war is very profitable for the French alliance and especially for Spain.

On August 24, Austria agrees to accept Netherlands' independence in exchange of 125d.
In September Teutons pay 208d to France, but Spain is still at war with them.

Year 1549

Tax 207d. A chief judge is appointed in Khorasan, and 3000 footmen with 10 cannons are added to Hormouz detachment.

News of outcomes of the European wars reaches the Persian Royal Palace: Venice is forced to cede Cyclades to Turkey; Naples pays 250d to Ragusa and 250d to Brittany [Naples are probably very rich as they paid already 750d in war retributions or maybe they indebted themselves]; and Spain annexed Hanseatic League.

Again a wave of nationalist movement rises as first Kerch and later Angora revolts. Our armies acquired high skills in dealing with rebels because again the provinces are subdued with minimal losses.

In December our military alliance ended and we hurry to create a new one with us as leaders. Poland-Lithuania and Mameluks happily agree to join, but not Moldova. I hope they understand what they are doing. Because our relation with Hafsid Empire is not "very friendly" [rel.-200] we do not ask them to join our alliance.

Year 1550

Tax 199d. A chief judge is appointed in Angora. We increase further our garrisons on Turkish border by recruiting 1000 cavalry and 1000 infantry in Angora, 2000 infantry in Azov and 2000 infantry in Kerch.

On 26th of May, Algiers seeing that Hafsids are alone, declare war on them and Morocco joins them.

Year 1551

Tax 210d. We continue in our efforts to build a rich Persia by appointing a chief judge in Trabzon. And also we continue in preparations for future wars by recruiting 2000 cavalry in Azov, 3000 infantry in Armenia and 2000 infantry in Kerch.

In March France signs a white peace with Naples.

In May Hafsid Empire accepts Marocco's terms to pay 192d and the rights to Tripolitania province, but in December they end up annexed by Algiers. Now Mameluks will border this aggressive North African alliance.

Year 1552

Tax 210d. We order a minimal fortress to be constructed in Khorasan province – only to increase supply limit in province, because I do not think that an enemy army will manage to reach a province so far from our borders. 1000 cavalry is trained in Azov and 5000 infantry with 1000 cavalry in Tabriz for Iraq Regiment.

On February 1st we advance in our naval technology and we can now start to build Naval Equipment Manufactories [lvl.5 - Galleons]. We redirect again all monthly spending to trade technology.

Another peaceful year ended with the news that Venice signed a white peace with Brittany.

Year 1553

Tax 206d. We create a new army – Isfahan Army with new recruits of 12k infantry and 3k cavalry, we move them to Kirkuk province bordering Turkish Syria, where they will meet Tabriz recruits [5k / 1k].

On July 11th we lose stability due to unhappiness among clergy [random event: –1 to stability].

Year 1554

Tax 184d. All treasury we use to appoint tax collectors in Sochi, Nuyssaybin and Karakum, except for a small portion necessary to recruit 1000 cavalry in Kirkuk.

In July we reach a new level in trade technology [lvl.4 – Early Baroque] and we are now able to initiate trade embargos. We divert all monthly income to increase stability in our realm.

This year saw many hostilities resolved as Venice pays 202d to France, Eire cedes Munster province to Pommerania and Teutons reaches status quo with Eire, Turkey and Knights.

Persia. Part XII: A promising start

Year 1555

Tax 184d. We appoint tax collectors in Irghiz and Tenghiz. Also 3000 cavalry and 1000 infantry is recruited for Isfahan Army.

In May we give orders to Tabriz Army to relocate to Azerbadjzan on Astrakhan border, and on their arrival we will declare war on Astrakhan. The time has come to show again to the Muslim world that Persia should rule them and not Turkey.

Astrakhan has 3 provinces and no army – I foresee a short and bloodless war. For this war we have 3 armies: Tabriz Army [20868 / 0 / 46] that will be used to storm fortresses, Persis Regiment in Orenburb [10k / 10k] that will be used to annihilate any military resistance if Astrakhan manages to recruit an army, and Kars Army [14255 / 10253] in Azov on the border with the Golden Horde in case that they decide to join on Astrakhan's side.

We also decide to test the loyalty of our allies [Poland-Lithuania and Mameluks] as we will ask them to join.

War is declared on Astrakhan and Golden Horde join to help them, also my both allies join. Mameluks already have a 29k army in Crimea and after several days after declaration of war they march towards Volgograd province. Col. Zuwara with Tabriz Army moves to assault Astrakhan's capital.

In first days of July we received news of our first victory in this war, Zuwara assaulted and captured Astrakhan capital fortress and now is moving to Uralsk [minimally fortified province]. By end of July Tabriz Army already laid siege to Uralsk fortress – we will wait with the assault until Astrakhan's recruits are ready and later defeated.

On 1st of August after a sound victory over 8000 Astrakhan cavalry, col. Zuwara commands his men to storm the walls. Meantime, Mameluk army laid siege to Volgograd fortress.

By end of August Uralsk is captured and Tabriz Army moves to Volgograd to speed up the siege on last Astrakhan fortress.

From Europe we received news that Pommerania accepted a white peace with the Knights.

On September 7th, the Hedjaz that borders our Iraq province declares war on us. Hmm?! I thought Turkey would be first to use our involvement in war with Astrakhan and declare war, but not the Hedjaz. Aden joins on Hedjaz's side, but Nubia and Ethiopia declined to join. We decide not to call our allies, because these poor countries in Arabian Peninsula with tiny armies pose little threat to us.

Twenty days later Col. Sebha with Iraq Regiment invades Jordan where they are met by 6000 Hedjaz cavalry. In just a week Sebha's opponents are defeated and he orders an assault of the fortress.

On the last days of October Jordan falls to our armies and Iraq Regiment marches to Arabia province. Several days later Mameluks commence the assault of Volgograd; they are joined by our army and a Polish one. In 5 days Volgograd is captured and Poland-Lithuania takes command of the fortress – pity I wanted this province for Mameluks. On the same day in a short ceremony we annex the Astrakhan.

On 1st of November as our stability restored all monthly income went to treasury [60d]. As we do not need any reinforcements for now we redirect all income to land technology development. Nevertheless, with this unexpected income we recruit 5000 infantry in Iraq to replenish the high losses from attrition in Arabian Desert. Tabriz Army, somewhat depleted from battles, moves to Lugansk – a Golden Horde province. Soon we will force them our peace conditions.

During a short skirmish just outside the walls of Arabia fortress Hedjaz cavalry is again defeated and Iraq Regiment assaults the fortress. On the same day col. Zuwara with Tabriz Army assault Lugansk fortress.

An envoy from Portugal informed us on December 1st that a status quo was reached between them and Pommerania and Venice had to pay 250d to Tuscany to stop their pillaging of Venetian countryside.

Just several days before the end of such an eventful year, first, Lugansk is captured and later also falls Arabia fortress. Tabriz Army retreats to our territory, mainly to avoid high attrition losses in the frozen steppes. But Iraq Regiment continues with its progress into Hedjaz territory. On the same day we capture Lugansk from Golden Horde, Polish armies started an assault of another Golden Horde province – Donetsk.

Hey the Hedjaz and Adeni provinces are quite rich! But a lot of them are only colonies not developped into full cities at the beginning (the Adeni ones at least).
