As of now I am failing to notice any differences at all between the Historical Mode and the Sandbox Mode, and with recent videos depicting a French capitulation in april 1936 and that timelapse video where Japan invaded Finland with all as this I cannot help it but ask for some info from the developers on what are they planning to do or if they are planning to do something.
I think the least they should do is inform us.

Unsurprisingly I have messed up Historical Accuracy with AI decisions, I apologize about that.

Personally, I'd like a mode/option where the historical behavior is not only encouraged, but rather enforced (So a 0% chance, that Poland gives up Danzig, of France intervening in the Reoccupation of the Rheinland etc...)

I think there is a 10% chance or so for each decision to go ahistorical on historic mode while ahistoric mode is not weighted in anyway. So there is still a small to okay chance things will go completely wonky.

Yes, this is what it should be, and I'm surprised it wasn't already. 100/0.

Then for Sandbox Mode, perhaps have choices balanced more towards 50/50.

My main concerns are the French capitulation in April 1936 and this video which another forum member has already posted:

In addition to that a few WWW moments concern me like Japan migrating to New Zealand/The Spanish civil war ending in just 1 month.

And with the huge number of choices AIs make everywhere the chance that the war goes exactly the historical route is probably close to zero.

@PanosB3

Japan did attack Australia, so it's quite likely that they would have staged a small invasion of New Zealand had their push into the Pacific been more successful.

Japanese armies in Finland, however...

Many people unfortunately confuse people wanting the war to play out exactly as it was with those simply not wanting Japan to invade Finland...

Historical focus only means that some things are very unlikely, but not impossible, whilst other things will almost always happen but occassionally may not.

I dont understand why people are complaining, going into Historical mode and beating France in 1936 then complaining.

Just follow it strictly historically and itll work.

That's no excuse for something that stupid. The have to address these many problems in the Dev Diary tomorrow. It could get pretty nasty.

The only way to "address it" would be hardcode it in "true-historical mode", which would mean it is always the same.....something personally I would loathe. But they should introduce some "pure-history" mode for purists, that will be always the same with fixed events and such, so everyone is happy.

As a HOI 1 and 2 vet, I still prefer the old 90/5/5 event system. It kept things historical while still allowing for interesting variations, but unfortunately (IMO), those days are gone forever.

I'm not against a 100% historical enforcement (I wouldn't use it), so long as there's still a historical mode which allowed some deviation, and also a complete sandbox mode for players who prefer that.

But if the stories of Japanese in Finland on historic setting are true, the mode definitely needs a revamp.

sometimes i wonder if people really want just a long movie to watch instead of a game.

also, that video doesn't seem to show any context. all it shows is Europe, and nothing about the Pacific theater.

Also, is there the ability for a faction member to ask another faction member for assistance?

Unfortunately that isn't going to change outcomes like this. Historical Mode only affects National Focus and event choices, not the strategic AI.

The only way you're going to stop seeing Japan sending armies to Finland is if the Japanese AI is explicitly stopped from doing so... or, as a better prevention, Paradox implement some sort of projection mechanic which stops deployment of troops outside of their naval range. This would be good, but it would probably be quite complex and something they'd implement in an expansion.

Historical focuses means ai will pick focuses in a certain order and that some critical events will be weighted very much towards the historical outcome (giving up danzig for example is not happening). Stuff like Sudetenland are heavily weighted to go historical as long as player is not trying to exploit using basically empty divisions and such.

But they should introduce some "pure-history" mode for purists, that will be always the same with fixed events and such, so everyone is happy.

Pure historical mode by definition will be unhistorical because players will not play historical when they know exactly what will happen. For example, why bother building up an army to be able to take over austria/czechs if you know they will just fold every time no matter how weak you are etc.
Also, for the Ai to be adaptable at all there needs to be flexibility. Otherwise you get HOI3 ai that collapses as soon as something goes in a different direction from history.

Ai for a game like this is an enormous task, and a task that never ends either. So yeah of course we will be improving it. but a game is not a timelapse of AI stuff, you are supposed to be there actually playing it.

HOI4 is much more of a sandbox than HOI3 and we have always been very open about that in hours and hours of streams. If that is not what you want HOI3 is still around.
